<pre>Heya all, good news! GSoC/OPW student announcements have wrapped up:
  http://mediagoblin.org/news/summer-of-awesome.html

The only downside (and despite how cliche it sounds, it's extremely
true; I've done other GSoC mentoring before) is that we had a lot of
very strong applicants, more than we could accept. But I am happy with
the decisions we made.

We've got a great summer coming up with 6 awesome students working on 6
awesome projects (with the help of 5 awesome mentors!). I know that I,
for one, am excited.

By the way, hopefully all mentors and mentees involved can make the
meeting this Saturday? It isn't mandatory, but it would be a good
opportunity.

Congrats all! And let's rock on to this summer of awesome!

<pre>Heya all,

MediaGoblin 0.4.0 is right around the corner. And you know what that
means... yup! MediaGoblin's codebase is currently frozen! That means
bugfixes and translations only over the next week (with one exception;
Elrond is merging some authentication stuff today).

Right now we can use your help a lot though: check out the codebase and
make sure stuff is working and translate if you can!

0.4.0 is gonna be SO AWESOME!

<pre>Hey y'all,

Just giving an update on what's happening for the 0.4.0 release.
Basically, this week I'll be wrapping up all the plugin stuff I
can... I'll be doing that today through thursday. I also hope towards
the end of this week to focus on trying to pull in as many mergable
branches as I can. Then next Monday, we freeze. Aside from
documentation and bugfixes, development will be frozen so we can test
things as much as we can and get translations in.

We're aiming to release on the third.

You can help! From now till release, test new features, work on docs,
or if you have significant experience in mediagoblin's codebase, review
code in the review queue:

Alright, now back to it! This release is gonna be awesome!

Hi all,

I submitted a pull request for a very simple documentation-related
commit a week ago[1]. I'm just wondering if anyone is monitoring pull
requests to the repo? Seems like there are quite a few waiting pull
requests from others with no comments from the core team[2].

Best,

Sam.

* I followed the documentation[1] unless I cloned the gitorious

* building the client using the 2.3's SDK fails against Holo
dependencies (the Holo theme is part of Android &gt;= 4.0)[4]
* I get a blank page when I try to connect trough HTTPS (using CACert

* I'm unable to type in the credentials inside the application when
passing the connection trough HTTP

<pre>Heya all,

I thought I'd give a special thanks to Simon Fondrie-Teitler (simonft)
for the special work he's been doing lately. I'm spread between a lot
of tasks and it's hard for me to get to everything, and the sysadmin
stuff is one area that was suffering... but Simon has taken on a lot of
great sysadmin work lately to improve our servers! He's upgraded Trac
and moved it from slooooow CGI to a much faster daemonized process,
upgraded the server from Squeeze-&gt;Wheezy, done several tweaks and fixes
to our wiki setup, and many other things. I think that deserves a
special thank-you.

So thanks Simon! I really appreciate you helping make our servers a
better place :)

<pre>Hi everyone, I'm new to this list and i'm not a developer.

I have installed an instance of MediaGoblin just to see if it is for me or
not. And wile i was looking into the option to run .stl files i thought it
would be great to also have a gerber viewer. So that people can upload full
PCB designs and instantly view them.

And as an extention to that idea, also gcode files

This way MediaGoblin could be used to host a wide range of projects.

.stl for 3d printing
gerber for PCB etching / milling
.gcode for cnc milling
.svg for inkscape 2d drawings

Mabe this project can be of help
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gerbv/?source=recommended
its a gerberviewer with a GPL license

And it also might be an idea to include .fzz files made by the
fritzing.orgsoftware These are layered SVG files.

But that's about all i know.

I hope this makes MediaGoblin a better tool for "makermedia" since there is
not much out there that can do this.

And what about sticker cutting, embroidery, lasercutting, knitting,
vacuumcleaning / lawnmower robots that can mow GNU logo patterns in the
lawn.

Ok. i got carried away....

:-)

Hi all,

Setting up MG on Debian 6 with postgres and mod_fcgid, according to
instructions here:

http://wiki.mediagoblin.org/Deployment

Right now I keep getting 500 internal server errors, with this in the
apache logs:

[Fri Apr 26 18:14:42 2013] [warn] [client 84.189.42.216]
(104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from
FastCGI server
[Fri Apr 26 18:14:42 2013] [error] [client 84.189.42.216] Premature
end of script headers: mg.fcgi

I edited the path in mg.fcgi and tested it, went over
mediagoblin.ini/mediagoblin_local.ini, and scratched my head over a
few other issues but can't find what's causing it. The error message
is also unclear as to where the problem lays - any way to get more info?

If I run the lazyserver and access mg via lynx on the server (via ssh)
then it appears to work fine. Does that narrow down the culprit at all?

Best,

Sam.

<pre>Hi

I am a student of programming, with experience in Java and C# mainly. I am
interested in participating in the Outreach Program for Women Internships.
Before I began coding, I was in Fashion Design. My background in fashion
urged me to choose your project. This is my first time participating in
anything like this and would like to know: 'How can I help?"

Thank you,

Kathy

[GMG-Devel] List moderation assistance?

<pre>Hello all,

You may have noticed some ollllld emails suddenly appearing on the
list. Where did these come from?

Basically, when emails don't go through because someone isn't a
subscriber on the devel list, they need someone to check to make sure
they aren't spam, and those currently pile up. With a few occasional
exceptions, they usually are spam.

I'm very overloaded in the number of MediaGoblin tasks I have on a day
to day already. If someone was interested in assisting with moderating
the list, I think it could help avoid mail getting stuck in queue as is
currently happening.

If you're interested in helping with this, please respond to me
off-list. Thanks!
- Chris

[GMG-Devel] PDF support

<pre>Hi all,
here is my first and rough cut at a PDF supporting media handler.

This is commit 566fdd79e3bf44cf92e2cada4bf987fee10b4fde in my branch
media_handler_pdf at git://gitorious.org/mediagoblin/mediagoblin.git.
Patch attached.

Some comments on the state of things:

Uploading of PDF works. So far, downloading does not work, as I simply
use the "image preview" template and that attempts to stick the pdf in a
&lt;img&gt; tag, but that's only a matter of creating a PDF specific template.

What remains to be done:
  - the gallery object template somewhere prefixes "/mgoblin_media" to
the thumbnail URL, even if we want the default thumbnail starting
with a "/mgoblin_static" URL. THis prevents the default thumbnail
from being displayed at the moment.
  - Create a HTML template that suits PDF file better
  - Actually extract some metadata from the file (author, description,
    created on, created with, ....)
  - Display the real first page as a thumbnail, needs converter
  - The thumbnail icon is hardcoded for now. This needs to get the value
    from ./__init__.py:MEDIA_MANGER['default_thumb'] but I don't know
how to access that value from processing.py.

Longterm: Use pdf.js to actually display the PDF file?!

I am giving up for now, but I think merging in this code post-release
would be a good foundation to get something better going. My biggest
roadblock is the auto-prefixing of "/mgoblin_media" somewhere and I need
to track that down.

Sebastian

<pre>

Hi my friends I wish to contribute with this Goblin boy drawing. It is a reprografic shoot that I took from an android phone. Due to very veryt low speed connection and DRM limitations I could not scan it. Even attaching the file takes hours to me.

Sorry for the quality, but nowadays Is the only way I can help your great project.
