How do I undo whatever WL has done to change scroll wheel behaviour????

I find the weird behaviour of how WL reacts to scroll wheel input to be
not just annoying, but destructive (in the sense that if I accidentally
try to scroll with the cursor in the wrong window then dozens of unread
messages will be displayed and marked as read and there doesn't seem to
be any way to undo such an operation).

I also wish I knew how to make Emacs send scroll wheel inputs to the
window where the mouse cursor is instead of to the window where the
keyboard input goes (without having to use separate frames for every
Emacs window, that is).

Showing "From" in Summary Mode when I'm the Sender

Hi,

a few days ago I realised that in the summaries my name showed up, not
the recipients name anymore (I haven't touched my .wl for ages and I
do not think there was any upgrade for Gentoo recently either).

I figured that

;; User's mail addresses.
(setq wl-user-mail-address-list
      (list (wl-address-header-extract-address wl-from)
    "address_2"
    "address_3"
    ))

stopped working

wl-from returns the right value (I think):

having "wl-from" in a buffer and the cursor just after it C-x C-e returns:

"Petrik Galvosas <Petrik.Galvosas< at >vuw.ac.nz>"

That is as far as I got (since I have no Idea from Lisp) and I was not
able to see what wl-address-header-extract-address returns (it just
started the debugger).

However, inserting my address in plain text as:

;; User's mail addresses.
(setq wl-user-mail-address-list
      (list (wl-address-header-extract-address wl-from)
    "Petrik.Galvosas< at >vuw.ac.nz"
    "address_2"
    "address_3"
    ))

and reconstructing the summary with s all-entirely created a summary
with my name replaced by the recipient as wanted.

Just in case that is important, I have that in my .wl:

(setq wl-summary-showto-folder-regexp ".*")
(setq wl-summary-from-function 'wl-summary-default-from)
(setq wl-use-petname t)

It is intentionally that I replace me with the recipient in all
folders.

Does anyone know what is going on here? I use 2.15.9_pre20101102 from
portage.

Thanks Petrik

wanderlust and mew - which might be best choice for me?

Hello:

No, it's not my intention to start a religious debate. I am, however,
having a difficult time finding much of anything about these two mua
modes on the net. I have used various gui clients in the past but they
seem bent on ever increasing bloat. Nor am I a fan of webmail. Mutt
would be my default "go to" TUI based mua but figured I'd investigate
mail in emacs. I need to manage multiple IMAP accounts with lots of
folders. I store my mail server side so I can access from multiple
machines - typically workstations with 24x7 connections. Hence offline
imap stores, pop, maildir, usenet, etc. are pretty much not even on my
radar. I like my mail in ascii but also need to be able to view
html'ized nonsense and open various attachments. My background is as a
sysadmin rather than programmer and I don't want to have to become an
e/lisp expert just to get my mua configured. I've also only recently
switched to emacs so there's still a big learning curve ahead.

Mew appears to be more actively maintained and has better documentation
but it also appears that Wanderlust may be preferred of the two. Perhaps
because of MH support and allegedly superior IMAP support. Such
references are pretty dated, however, so I don't know how relevant to
current times. Mew and Wanderlust otherwise appear to be pretty similar
and I'd appreciate it if someone would compare and contrast their
differences and similarities in the context of my use case.

TIA-- Ken

Problems finding and storing Message-ID

I'm seeing failures of wl-summary-jump-to-msg-by-message-id when I try
to search for messages with long message IDs such as:
<D456FE7EBDBD6047A4373F930BED54D44E68617C37< at >SJMEMXMBS10.stjude.sjcrh.local>
which is 75 characters long. These long IDs are generated by our
institutions Outlook/Exchange setup, so I'm guessing we're not the
only place that has such monsters.

When I try to use wl-summary-jump-to-msg-by-message-id and give it the
above ID while in an MH-mailbox that I use to store saved messages, it
fails to find message, even though it is there. (I took this ID from a
message in that folder.) But on sum other long IDs, as on most short
IDs, it works. Comparing the Message-IDs in messages with those stored
in ~/.elmo/localdir/sashank/msgid, I see that the long message IDs are
stored with a newline and a space at the start of the string, like:
"\n <D456FE7EBDBD6047A4373F930BED54D44E68617C37< at >SJMEMXMBS10.stjude.sjcrh.local>"
In some of the messages stored in the MH folder, the message ID field
has a "\n " just ahead of the message ID, and in some it does not, so
what's in the msgid database might or might not be the same as what
comes after "Message ID: " in the email header. For short message ID's
everything is okay, as far as I can tell.

According to RFC 5322 section 3.6.4, together with the fact that only
one ID can be in a message-id field, together with the rules about
folding white space in section 3.2.2, the syntax for a message-id is,

  message-id = "Message-ID:" [CFWS] "<" id-left" "< at >" id-right ">" CRLF

where [CFWS] indicates a place where comments or folding white space (FWS) may be
inserted. FWS is defined as a CRLF. The definition of FWS is

  FWS = ([*WSP CRLF] 1*WSP)

But for the present purposes the FWS instance is essentially " \n ",
where "\n" is (sort of) the equivalent of CRLF. As for the meaning of
FWS in a header field, RFC 5322 says:

Wherever folding appears in a message (that is, a header field body
containing a CRLF followed by any WSP), unfolding (removal of the
CRLF) is performed before any further semantic analysis is
performed on that header field according to this specification.
That is to say, any CRLF that appears in FWS is semantically
   "invisible".

I conclude that functions handling message IDs, and storing them in
data structures or in files like the msgid files, should squeeze out
the folded space (i.e. "unfold") the header contents. That way, the
msgid files would have
"<D456FE7EBDBD6047A4373F930BED54D44E68617C37< at >SJMEMXMBS10.stjude.sjcrh.local>"
For the above message.

I guess this all relates to the question of email line-length limits.
The RFC says that lines produced by mail-producing software "SHOULD"
contain lines no longer than 78 characters but "MUST" contain lines no
longer than 998. I think this imples that recieving applications
"MUST" be able to process 998-character lines bu "SHOULD" be able to
handle longer ones (my reading of section 2.1.1).

Apparently, many producing applications use that CRLF WS sequence
between "Message-ID:" and the actual ID to meet the 78-character limit
when faced with long IDs. But that does not mean Wanderlust has the
right to ASSUME they do this. Anyway, Wanderlust should store these
IDs unfolded so as to have a folding-insensitive method of matching.

Hi Folks,

I can't connect to a server, which worked before™. And I cant figure
out what the error message wants to tell me.

This is the error:

Debugger entered--Lisp error: (elmo-open-error elmo-network-initialize-session)
  signal(elmo-open-error (elmo-network-initialize-session))
  byte-code("\301< at >A\"\207" [err signal] 3)
  wl-folder-check-one-entity(#("%INBOX:tim.schumacher.tourevo.com/digest-md5< at >tourevo-software.com:993!" 0 70 (wl-folder-entity-id 25 wl-folder-is-group nil)))
  wl-folder-check-entity(#("%INBOX:tim.schumacher.tourevo.com/digest-md5< at >tourevo-software.com:993!" 0 70 (wl-folder-entity-id 25 wl-folder-is-group nil)) nil)
  wl-folder-check-current-entity()
  call-interactively(wl-folder-check-current-entity nil nil)

The only thing I can remember, that changed, that I recently renewed
our SSL-certificate.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Tim

Attachments not attaching

Hello

Sorry about the last send. It unfortunately demonstrated the problem as
oppose to explain it.
I'm sending the message via web gmail.

Hoping someone can help me on this issue.
I'm very happy with Wanderlust thus far but have come across a problem.
I can't seem to attach files to an email. I've tried with a pdf file and a
jpg file and get the same results. The message, when it arrives, have a '0'
byte attachment of the right name etc but of course, its 0 bytes.
Here's what I do with a jpg file for example:
C-c C-x TAB which prompts me for a file. I name the file and then am
prompted for: image RET jpeg RET and base24 RET.
The imagemagick opens on the file I want to attach. Don't know what to do
at this point so I close the program.
In the body of my email is added:
--[[image/jpeg
Content-Disposition: inline; filename="P1020187.jpg"]]
Note the 'inline' disposition. The image is not added inline.
When I send this message out, it arrives with a '0' byte file named
correctly. If I want to 'v' the file, gimp open and fails on the file
because it is 0 bytes.
I get the same sequence if I change the "inline" to "attachment".

Any help would be appreciated.
I'm running wl-beta with emacs 23.3 on the latest ubuntu box.

Thank you
Marc

Google Mail recent Issue

Hi folks,

as Google does not support the recent Flag for new mail, is there a
way Wanderlust can keep track which one is new? Or do I have to use
something like offlineimap?

I remember vaguely that this issue has been discussed before, but
could not find anything?!?

thanks

Tim

Missing emails from Gmail

Hey Everyone,

I am very new to wanderlust and have been giving it a try because I would
really like to get my mail in emacs. I have tried gnus and rmail before and
did not like them much mainly because they dropped some emails (ie the
email would be in my gmail inbox but not in gnus or rmail). Unfortunately
it seems to be the same issue with wanderlust. I followed the online
tutorials for setting wanderlust with gmail and still some emails are
missing. I have narrowed it down to emails in threads that were started by
me (ie I sent the first message and everything else was a reply to me). I
am fairly certain that this a problem on my end but searching did not
reveal anyone having the same issue so I perplexed on where to start.

I would really appreciate if anyone can point me in the direction of the
error and I will work on it.

Thanks for any help you might send my way.

Summary command "o" and "O" results in "wrong type argument listp,

[This mail was also posted to gmane.mail.wanderlust.general.]

Hello folks

Hope someone can help.
I'm wanting to refile messages.
When I issue the 'o' or "O" command in the summary area, I get a message:
Wrong type argument: listp, 71
I don't know what to make of this.
Initially, I though that because I didn't have wl-refile-rule-alist
initialized, that this was causing some problems.
So..I did the following
(setq wl-refile-rule-alist
  '(("To" ("pan-users" . "_Lists"))))

_Lists is a maildir folder.

Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Marc
