<pre>Hi all,

I'm trying to configure an autoresponder for v1.4.22, and Paul sent me
here as a more appropriate place to ask my questions. I'm currently
using the Autorespond plugin, but I understand it's deprecated in
favor of the Server Settings plugin. Am I understanding that
correctly?

The Server Settings plugin seems to be much more complicated than
necessary for me. I've read through the README for that plugin, and am
confused about whether the functionality is included within the plugin
itself, or somehow is leveraged by another plugin? It says that it's
only an API, but it was released well after any of the plugins on the
Vacation page, so I was confused how it works.

If I were to chose a standalone vacation plugin instead, would it be
the "Local User Autoresponder and Mail Forwarder" plugin? I'm noticing
now that, although it doesn't have as many downloads, it was released
much more recently.

btw, do paypal donations charge a percentage, or does 100% of the
donation go to the recipient? I know they charge for business
transactions, of course, but it just occurred to me that they may not
charge for charitable donations, such as to the squirrelmail team.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

CentOS5-CentOS6 Migration problem: html_mail issue - HTML-Formatted email in Squirrelmail disappears (details below ...)

<pre>

Greetings,

Recently, due to a disk failure I made a quick decision to move our site
to a new machine running a fresh installation of CentOS 6 from a degrading
machine that was built on CentOS 5.

Since this was sudden, enough issues developed, but we've managed to
resolve a number of them. One that is still outstanding relates to
squirrelmail's html_plugin

In Squirrelmail, you can install a plugin called html_mail that allows you to
compose html-formatted email.

This plugin functions with Firefox and Internet Explorer; it doesn't function
in Google Chrome.

In CentOS 5 with PHP5.1 using html_mail, I would toggle the HTML source button.
Then, I could copy and paste html-formatted text with complicated html
(tables, css, etc) from a text editor into the the html-formatting pane of
squirrelmail, and the message would be delivered as html-formatted to the
recipients.

In CentOS 6, with PHP5.3, using Squirrelmail with the html_mail plugin, using
this same procedure (toggle html source to bring up "text mode" in the
composition pane) and copying html-formatted text from a text editor into the
html-window in Squirrelmail, the delivered email only shows the header
information.

Using pine, I see that there is an attachment, viewing the attachment, I see
the original html code that was composed in a text editor.

Viewing this same received email in a web-based client (Gmail or Squirrelmail),
all of html-formatted part disappears.

Looking at a part of a CentOS 5 mail header where this process was successful,
I see:
Content-Length: 132323
Lines: 3332
Parts/Attachments:
    1.1 OK 1,169 lines Text (charset: ISO-8859-1)
    1.2 Shown 2,137 lines Text (charset: ISO-8859-1)
    2 Shown 5 lines Text

Looking at a part of a CentOS 6 mail header where this process is failing, I
see:
Parts/Attachments:
    1.1 OK 1,898 lines Text (charset: ISO-8859-1)
    1.2 Shown 1 lines Text (charset: ISO-8859-1)
    2 Shown 5 lines Text

It's the "1.2" part

Finally, looking at the message in the "Sent" folder, the html-formatted
message disappears.

In many issues that have related to this migration the primary reason has
been changes in PHP 5.3 differing from PHP 5.1's functionality. This
html_mail issue may or may not relate to that.

In addition, we're using sendmail as the MTA (with the hope of moving to
Postfix, which is stock in CentOS 6), since our legacy setup used
sendmail.

The sendmail version we used on CentOS 5 was 8.13.8-8.el5; now it is
8.14.4-8.

Recognizing that there are a myriad of points involved but also having
reviewed some of the squirrelmail-plugin archives and seeing that
versions of this problem have been reported, would there be any
suggestions on how to troubleshoot and resolve this?

Much thanks.

Finding which plugins are installed

<pre>I have searched for the answer to this and have not found anything.

As a squirrelmail / email administrator with root access, how do I determine which squirrelmail plug-ins have been installed?

There are several available "mail filter" plug-ins and I need to find out which one was installed in my installation.

Thanks...

Bookmarks plugin: latest package never added to SM site

<pre>Back in 2003, I collaborated with the original plugin author to improve this plugin,
adding import and better usability in released version 2.0.3. In 2006, I had an
idea for some enhanced functionality. Fredrik Jervfors coded that new functionality
(thanks Fredrik!), and posted two updated files to replace those in the Bookmarks
archive. The new code:

- Enables deletion of a folder with recursive deletion of any subfolders. - Enables
function to delete all bookmarks (to prepare to import a fresh set).

Fredrik's updated files were never added to the SM site. His update makes this a
much more useful tool, so I think that a revised package containing these new files
should be added to the SM plugins site.

How can we get this "latest" Bookmarks plugin package added to the site? (Perhaps it
doesn't conform to current plugin release standards, but it is nonetheless the most
recent release with better functionality than what's currently on the plugins page.)

I also have ideas and code regarding a possible new and improved Bookmarks plugin.
Another author and I had produced a working prototype that was very encouraging.
I've contacted him to see if he wants to resume our work. (I had also contacted the
original author, who said she isn't interested and hoped someone else would take
ownership of the plugin.)

We have configured squirrelmail-1.4.22-2 on CentOS 6.2. Since our users
need news groups we tried to add the plug-in nntp_0.0.5. We have set the
required directives/parameters in "config.inc" and added the group names
in "groups.txt" as specified in the "readme-english.txt".

Then we got the following errors:

Now we gave the absolute path for the above files in "nntp/squirrelmail.inc"

We could able to see the available queues in the news server, but when
we click on the individual queue, there is no response at all.

we started receiving the new errors:

Please advise.

<pre>Hi.
Hoping for a little help with the above mentioned plugin.

I'm using version 3.3-1.2 of the change_sqlpass with SquirrelMail 1.4.21

The plugin seems to work really well but when I change a password it logs me
out of squirrel mail with the error message :-

"ERROR
This page request could not be verified and appears to have expired.
Go to the login page"

I can then log in with the new password, so its updating the database fine
but I think there should be a message.
I'm using the en_US language configured in Squirrel.

Any pointers would be great.

I need to let my users know there is no problem, just log in with the new
details.

Thanks

Rob

1. Translation not working. A window opens for selected translation service, but
message text is not submitted to it.

2. I'd like to change its default, as currently always defaults to German to
English. How can I change that to a different default?

README says: Some plugin settings can be adjusted by creating
config/translate_config.php or plugins/translate/config.php
configuration file. See plugins/translate/config_default.php and
plugins/translate/config_sample.php

But, those two files don't exist in plugins/translate/

3. Any way to use this to translate text in the Compose message window? (i.e. to
translate a message I'm sending?)

Body message removed in html composition

<pre>Hi,

If we send an email composed in HTML with some body text and an attachment
from squirrel mail to squirrel mail, at receiving end the body text is not
received but it is added as an attachment "ATT-2.dat" along with the actual
attachment. In short, In my case, for some reason the text part of the body
text gets lost and only the attachment part arrives.

When we disable the html composition option in Squirrelmail, the mail
arrives with both the body text and the attachment fine. So the problem
seems to be related to the html_mail plugin. I installed the Standard
Squirrel Mail Version 1.4.22 and html_mail plugin and reproduced the issue
and can send the webmail URL for testing if required (in Private Only). We
are using PHP 5.2.14 on IIS7 and using hMailserver as Mailserver.

Any suggestions?

CAPTCHA plugin with captcha_php backend and PHP 5.4 -no image

<pre>Hi all,

I think I found a small issue with CAPTCHA plugin with captcha_php backend
using PHP 5.4.x. The issue is that the captcha image does not display on
the login page. The error in the apache error log:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Sun Jan 20 16:37:12 2013] [error] [client X.X.X.X] PHP Warning:
imagejpeg(): Filename cannot be empty in
&lt;SQUIRRELMAIL_HOME_DIR_PATH&gt;/plugins/captcha/backends/captcha_php/captcha.php
on line 328
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't have the issue with PHP 5.3.x. It seems that the imagejpeg()
function behaviour has been changed with PHP 5.4.x.

The fix is simple (edit line 328 in
&lt;SQUIRRELMAIL_HOME_DIR_PATH&gt;/plugins/captcha/backends/captcha_php/captcha.php):
----------------------------------------------
   from: imagejpeg($img, "", (int)$quality);
     to: imagejpeg($img, NULL, (int)$quality);
----------------------------------------------

Probably this could be fixed in the next version of captch plugin if the
author thinks that's an issue. I am not sure if it will work with PHP
5.3.x or lower.

Thanks &amp; Best Regards,

Boyan Boychev

"Yellow Sticker" Plugin -- any demand?

<pre>Today I implemented a "yellow sticker" functionality for SquirrelMail in
a plugin -- show some eye-catching text as a "yellow sticker" above the
folder list *if* a certain file is present, using the text (HTML,
actually) from that file.

We have been using functionality like this for a while, mainly to notify
our users of planned service outages and the like. The main idea is to
make it easy to use by just putting a file with a text somewhere, and
the contents is displayed; remove the file and the yellow sticker is
gone. Automation via at(1) can make it appear and disappear without
human intervention, if necessary.

I had implemented a previous version by hacking the code directly into
the SquirrelMail proper, but in between I have learned more about
plugins and what you can do with them, so I put that code into a plugin
I have written for some local things.

Now I wonder -- do other people feel the need for such a functionality?
I could extract the "yellow sticker" code to a separate, independent
plugin, which then could be distributed or even put on the SquirrelMail
website, if there is sufficient demand. If not, I wouldn't bother.

See the attached screenshot for an example how this could look.

Regards, Juergen.

HEADS UP -- archive_mail plugin may delete messages

<pre>Summary:
In our installation, the archive_mail plugin has shown to cause the
unexpected deletion of e-mail messages. This may or may not apply to
other installations. I am not motivated to investigate the problem
further by myself, but am willing to help if someone else is interested.

The day before yesterday I received a report from one of our users who
had tried to use the archive plugin on the over 3000 messages in her
Inbox. She set the option to make SquirrelMail display 4000 messages at
a time, clocked on "Toggle All" to select all messages, and clicked on
"Archive". Several seconds later the message list simply appeared again,
only with all messages after March 7 2012 deleted.

Investigating the issue, I found I could reproduce it reliably with a
large number of messages in a mail folder -- when I click on "Archive",
the message list reappears after a short while -- suspiciously short,
actually -- and quite a number of messages is deleted, something like
1000 in this scenario. (I did not encounter this when I tested the
plugin with a small number of messages to archive, like 20.)

In the syslog I found this:

Jan 10 17:36:47 09:malawi suhosin[839473]: ALERT - configured POST
variable limit exceeded - dropped variable 'msg[995]' (attacker
'130.133.10.14', file '/server/webmail/www-devel/src/move_messages.php')

(There is nothing in the PHP error log that corresponds to this.)

So, apparently suhosin gets suspicious by the size of the POST request
and decides to garble it. The commands that squirrelmail sends to the
IMAP server (with the squirrelmail imapproxy in between, so we see
commands from several connections) are these:

A002 SELECT "grossss"
A003 EXPUNGE
a001 CAPABILITY
a001 GETQUOTAROOT "INBOX"
A004 EXAMINE "grossss"
A005 SELECT "grossss"
A006 EXPUNGE
A007 EXPUNGE
A008 UID SEARCH UID 1:12229
A009 UID FETCH 1:8249 (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE INTERNALDATE
BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (Date To Cc From Subject X-Priority Importance
Priority Content-Type)])
A010 EXAMINE "grossss"
C64 UNSELECT
A002 STATUS "INBOX" (MESSAGES UNSEEN RECENT)
A003 EXAMINE "Trash"
a001 CAPABILITY
a001 GETQUOTAROOT "INBOX"
C64 UNSELECT
A002 SELECT "grossss"
A003 EXPUNGE
A004 LIST "" "Trash"
A005 UID COPY 7255:8249 "Trash"
A006 UID STORE 7255:8249 +FLAGS (\Deleted)
A007 EXPUNGE
C64 UNSELECT
A002 SELECT "grossss"
A003 EXPUNGE
a001 CAPABILITY
a001 GETQUOTAROOT "INBOX"
A004 EXAMINE "grossss"
A005 SELECT "grossss"
A006 EXPUNGE
A007 EXPUNGE
A008 UID SEARCH UID 1:12229
A009 UID FETCH 1:7254 (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE INTERNALDATE
BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (Date To Cc From Subject X-Priority Importance
Priority Content-Type)])
A010 EXAMINE "grossss"
C64 UNSELECT

So actually the messages were not really deleted, rather moved to the
Trash (the second A005/A006/A007 group of commands), which makes the
problem only slightly less catastrophic.

I cannot find any code that deletes messages or moves them in the
archive_mail plugin, so I guess the garbled POST request triggers
something else somewhere inside of squirrelmail. I would not totally be
surprised if huge requests of other kinds might also trigger unexpected
behaviour of a similar kind. (This reminds me a bit of the proverbial
nasal demons.)

Perhaps it would be possible to tune suhosin to let requests of this
size pass, but I don't known when it hits a dangerous size again, so I
do not see that as a feasible workaround.

Anyway, as this is apparently not easy to fix, I have decided not to
pursue the issue further; we will simply no longer use this plugin. In
case someone else is more motivated, this is our installation:

Base system is Debian-stable on x86_64; PHP 5.3.3-7+squeeze14 and Apache
2.2.16-6+squeeze10 are installed as Debian packages. PHP gets some
additional configuration; apart from file paths it is this:

-------------------------------------------
upload_max_filesize = 64M
post_max_size = 64M
memory_limit = 256M
suhosin.cookie.max_name_length=128

[Session]
session.gc_maxlifetime = 57600
session.save_path = /home/webmail/var/lib/php5
-------------------------------------------

SquirrelMail is a 1.4.22 with some own patches to adapt it to our local
situation (display, authentication, that stuff). I *think* they are
irrelevant to this issue, but as I have taken over the patches from my
predecessor on the job and have not reviewed them in detail -- my
fluency in PHP is limited --, I wouldn't swear on that. I can provide
the code (or patches) if anyone is interested.

(Side note: most of the above probably could have been done in a plugin
as I know in between. I will probably even do that if I ever do a
replacement of this SquirrelMail installation.)

Installed plugins:

message_details no version number found; $Id tag:
      message_details_main.php 14084 2011-01-06 02:44:03Z pdontthink
delete_move_next 3.0
quota_usage 1.3.1
add_address 1.0.3
limit_languages 1.0
abook_import_export 1.1
archive_mail 1.2

The specific IMAP server *should* be irrelevant to this issue, but there
is the current SquirrelMail imapproxy in front of some version of
Perdition in front of dovecot 1.1.20 (all on Debian-stable).

Browsers used were Firefox 18.0 (by the reporting user) and Chrome
23.0.1271.97 (by myself), both on Linux (Debian-stable in my case).

If anything else is of interest, feel free to ask.

Regards, Juergen.

php-5.4.10-1 / custom_from

<pre>SquirrelMail version: 1.4.23 (SVN 2012-12-21)
Every plugin installed: (change_sqlpass, delete_move_next, select_range,
javascript_libs, custom_from, avelsieve)
PHP version: (php-5.4.10-1)
Web server Apache (httpd-2.2.3-65), lighttpd (lighttpd-1.4.31-1)
IMAP server (cyrus-imapd-2.4.16-1)
SMTP server (postfix-2.9.1-1)
OS and, if applicable, distribution (CentOS Linux 5.8 x64, kernel
2.6.18-308.24.1)

PHP was recently upgraded to PHP 5.4. It appears that the custom_from
plugin is no longer working correctly with my environment.

I removed the existing custom_from directory from the plugins directory.
I downloaded custom_from-2.0-1.4.0 from squirrelmail repository. I
extracted the tarball to plugins directory, copied
config/config_example.php to config/config.php, and ran the squirrelmail
configure to ensure the custom_from was selected in the "Installed
Plugins" section. No changes were made to config.php. As I am running
version 1.4.23, I am under the impression the compatibility plugin is not
necessary.

When clicking on "Compose", the From field is not displayed. The expected
result is that the From field would be displayed.

I tried to enable display_errors in php.ini, but no errors are displayed
when clicking on the Compose link.

It is assumed the PHP 5.4 upgrade has caused this plugin to stop functioning.

Thank You.
