I was wondering if it's possible to create a list of all strings a

I would like to have something like that stored as an appendix to my CV

Any help is highly appriciated.

About removing translatable strings in a new micro-release

<pre>Hi David,

Could anybody please give me the answer to a little question?

We are probably releasing a micro-release update for Onboardthe default onscreen keyboard shipping with ubuntu precise in the next days (unless something unexpected occurs during the current tests). In fact, we are releasing version 0.97.1 from the 0.97 branch as an update of version 0.97.0.

There is no translatable string change between the two releases, apart the removal of a few strings. Do I have to inform the ubuntu translators about these string removals?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Cheers,

Francesco

Just a heads up that I'm preparing the first Qreator release next week,
and I'm starting the string freeze period. Thank you all who have
submitted translations so far.

There have been 9 new strings added since the last translation call, so
if you'd like to help completing them, please head to:

You can test what will be the upcoming version by installing the package

Thanks!

<pre>Hi translators,

I've created a small app that I'd like to ask you help me translate.
It's called Qreator and it makes it possible to easily create QR codes
from the desktop.

You can translate it here:
https://translations.launchpad.net/qreator

You can install it from here:
https://launchpad.net/qreator/0.1/first-release/+download/qreator_0.1-public1ubuntu1_all.deb

You can report bugs here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/qreator

You can improve the code here:
https://code.launchpad.net/qreator

My intention is to submit it to the Software Centre to road test the app
developer process, and I think it'd be really cool to get it translated
in as many languages as possible before it reaches the store.

Thanks a lot!

Cheers,
David.

<pre>Hi all,

Ubuntu-defaults-builder is a set of tools to allow for the easy
localization of ubuntu cd images, providing LoCo's and others with an
easy way to create ubuntu cd images customised for a certain country,
region or group [1].

To facilitate discussion between people who are interested in creating
these customized images, I have created the “Ubuntu localized iso
community” team on launchpad [2]. Feel free to join the team if you are
interested in this project, or if you have any questions.

If you want to get started yourself, you can follow the steps described
here [3] to easily create your own customized iso image.

Greetings,
Redmar

CALL FOR TESTING of 1st Precise language pack update (deadline 17thof March)

<pre>Hi translators,

It is now time for the first language pack update cycle for Ubuntu 12.04
(Precise Pangolin).

We've uploaded the language packs to the precise-proposed repository for
you to test before they are released to all users. These should contain
all your updates and fixes in translations done since the release date.

I'd like to ask teams to test them and provide an indication that
they've done so by following some simple steps and submitting a signoff,
so that we know that translations have been successfully tested.

Simply follow the instructions in this page and add your team's signoff
in the appropriate table:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/LanguagePackUpdatesQA

The desktop specific language packs will only be distributed for the
desktops (e.g. GNOME and KDE) that have been tested.

The deadline for the testing is the *17th of March* (in one week's
time). After that, we'll update the language packs we've received
feedback for into precise-updates, so that all users can benefit from
the new translations and fixes.

Remember that you'll have to to enable the precise-proposed repository
to get these updates:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

Cheers,
David.

I just want to give you a heads up about the upcoming Ubuntu
Translations roundtable at UDS. This cycle will be more or less like the
last one, in which I've been devoting less time to translations and more
to the app developer community.

If you've got any topics that you'd like to bring up, discuss or would
like to help, please do subscribe to the blueprint:

You can use the whiteboard and the etherpad notepad linked to the
session (see the session below in the schedule) to add topics for
discussion.

Remember you can participate remotely:

See you there!

<pre>Hi!

As it was said by leading Kubuntu maintainer [1], Kubuntu 12.04 will not
use LP translations for at least Calligra.

Some other KDE extragear translations that are not used:

akonadi-kalarm-resource (not an Extragear, but was not imported)
amarok
choqok
konversation
qapt-deb-installer (from Muon suite)
solidcontrolnm09

It seems that Ubuntu translation maintainers are too busy now, so these
templates (along with Calligra) were not disabled.

If you like sexy green bars, you can import translations from KDE
upstream, but it's just a matter of green bars now (translations will not
be used). ;)

Best regards,
Yuri

<pre>
Hello Ubuntu Translators!

Unfortunately we need to make a string change in the lobby opt-in panel
text for the new recommendations feature in Ubuntu Software Center in
Precise. The corresponding bug is here:

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/986437

From the bug description:

We need to remove the word "anonymous" from the opt-in panel text, per
mpt's comment #5 in bug 967064:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/967064/comments/5

We need to do this part of the recommendations opt-in process for the
user currently requires an SSO account and for the user to be logged
into this account. Having this information greatly improves the accuracy
of the personalized recommendations that they will receive, particularly
after they have rated some of their applications. Given this
requirement, even though the list of uploaded packages is not tracked in
any way, it is nevertheless not accurate to use the word "anonymous" in
the opt-in text, so we want to remove it.

The diff is very simple:

<pre>Hi,

It was just pointed on the ubuntu-fr-l10n that some of the ubuntu
desktop guide strings that are supposed to be translated (and correctly
showing up in the po exported by launchpad) don't show translated on
precise, I did look a bit at it.

The "precise-translations" vcs which has been pointed out as having the
current translations seems to somewhat be outdated compared to the
ubuntu translations (the french version there has some 180 strings
translated less that the po exported from the launchpad ui for example)

The email is a "for your information" one in case somebody else notice,
if anyone has a clue about the "precise-translations" vcs and what is
wrong with it that would be good to fix it, otherwise I guess for the
next update we will do an "export a po tarball" from launchpad.

Last night Kubuntu Team uploaded new templates for Kubuntu docs.

Due to minor changes (spaces, commas, periods, using entities) one can
expect that about 574 messages need attention.

But there is no reason to hurry. Documentation contains at least dozen of
typos (the bug report is ignored due to the person in charge of the
package and most of the developers are crazy busy), no translations will
be packaged with 12.04 and there exist &gt; 50% probability that translations
will never be packaged at all (as for the previous releases).

This message is just to warn you that you might waste your time

you are warned. ;)

languages,

this affects:

AMNATIC

ASTURIANU

BELARUS

BOSANKSI

CATALA

CESTINA

DEUTSCH

EUSKARA

HRVATSKI

ISLENSKA

GEORGIAN

KANNADA

LAO

LITHUANIAN

LATVIAN

MALAYALAM

NORWEGIAN

POLSKI

PORTUGUES DO BRASIL (very bad)

SAAMI NOR.

SLOVAK

ALBANIAN

SERBIAN

UKRAINE

TELEGU

TIENG VIET

In these languages, the user is not able to read the last F6 Option from
the ISOLINUX menu.

Also I want to note that

BENGA

THAI

do not have any translations for the start options, and the F(unction)
Options, but for the Help (to find at F1)

I am unsure of GATEGO

The translations for HINDI and KHMER are broken in the Help (to find at F1)

If you know one of these languages PLEASE fix it.

I have to say that I dont know where the link to the translation series is,
I am sorry for that.

Please understand the importance of this, to users.

If you fixed a translation, you can mark it HERE:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DHNz26wUJR6y8rUrR1zVJ_tYW3EoFAmOgwUMhSqY76k/edit,
too.

If I was wrong, I am sorry for that, please post that, too.

I thank you for helping :-)

Localized ubuntu-docs screenshots

<pre>Hi all,

A while ago I set up an Ubuntu One share to make it easier for
translators to submit localized screenshots for the Ubuntu documentation.

I noticed that there haven't been any updates apart from those from the
German team, which seem to have committed to ubuntu-docs already.

Is there any other team who wanted to submit localized screenshots?

Assuming the docs team agrees (as we are already quite late in the
cycle), we could do a final round up commit with localized images.

Cheers,
David.

[FFe] New screenshots for Ubuntu installer slideshow

<pre>This is a freeze exception request for one last update to
ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu, including new screenshots for the Ubuntu
slideshow.

This is pretty straight-forward: previously, screenshots shown in the
installer were from an older version of Ubuntu. Now, they're from
12.04. And they're a little more consistent, too :)

You can see a preview slideshow with new screenshots over here:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~dylanmccall/ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/preview/
(You might need to Shift+Refresh if you've looked at that before,
because browser caching is crazy and stuff).

I apologize that this took so long to happen. I wasn't expecting the
wallpaper to arrive when it did.

I am not intending to make any changes with this release except for
the screenshots.

Thank you!
