Would be nice to meet you there and if you want also at Ubucon in

<pre>Hi all

I'm a Zurich based ubuntu-ch list lurker. I would like to share
something that might be of interest for those of you living in the area
of Switzerland. If you find time to watch tv sometimes, but are sick of
the mandatory ads added by most providers (zattoo, wilmaa, teleboy) and
also sick of using slow and proprietary flash, this is for you.

watchteleboy is a bash script built around rtmpdump and mplayer and lets
you watch and record streams provided by teleboy.ch.

You can get it from github [1] PPA [2]:
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:reduzierer/reduzent
$ sudo aptitude update
$ sudo aptitude install watchteleboy

Simply run 'watchteleboy' in a terminal to use it.

I am not in any way affiliated to any of the aforementioned
companies/services and I hope you find the script useful.

Cheers
Roman

Heya,

Some of you know that although I'm still listed at quite a few places
related to the Ubuntu swiss team, I've been living in Canada for more
than 3 years now.

I usually travel back to Switzerland for a few months a year as my
work at Canonical allows me to work from pretty much anywhere.

This year, I'll be around between the 7th to the 29th of April to be
in Europe for the Ubuntu 12.04 release as my usual US eastern timezone
doesn't work great when you have to attend the release sprint meetings
that are full of Europeans :)

So I'll be around for these 3 weeks, mostly working on the release and
actually releasing Ubuntu and Edubuntu on the 26th.

I haven't made up my mind on the 28th on whether I'll be attending
Ubucon or not, the biggest problem being the location and the fact
that I'll be flying back to Canada from Geneva the day after :)

So if anyone living around Neuchatel or driving through that area is
going to Ubucon12, coming back the same day and can give me a lift,
I'll probably attend.

I'm also happy to give a talk there on anything related to Ubuntu.
I'm one of the two Edubuntu project leaders, Ubuntu Core Developer,
member of the Ubuntu Technical Board and involved with the Ubuntu
release team, so just find a topic and I'll be happy to talk about it ;)

Please note that I'm fluent French and English speaker, my German
doesn't go much further than ordering some food and a beer (yeah, that
little after 10 years of "learning" it at school ...) :)

Cheers

Hello CH Community!

<pre>Hi all,

I just moved in to Switzerland, more precisely, Winterthur. So, let me
give a small intro about my self:

If been using Ubuntu since 2005 and have been a part of the Portuguese
community almost from the beginning. Started using it during
University ( Computer Networks engineering - finnish my Masters last
year) . It was with Ubuntu that I got my first job, at a portuguese
Start up named Intraneia, where I did development, client management,
system &amp; network administration, basically, worked with Open Source
software to help and give value to our clients. e.g Ubuntu, Drupal,
Wordpress, Zentyal (Linux Small Business Server based on Ubuntu) and
other software. (If you havent tried Zentyal, you should, its pretty
good )

However, i've "moved out" of that area for the past 2 years (Been
working at Deloitte in IT Audit and Security Consulting), but now,
moving in to Switzerland, I wanted to get back in to the scene, know
people and debate ideas :)

For now, I'm "searching for my path", basically looking for work, but
starting some projects in a personal level, for freelancing. Getting
back to Rails and learning Android.

Well, this is my little story.

So, 2 questions:
1. Is Ubuntu, or making the question even deeper, is Linux well known
in CH? do companies ( lets talk for now of SME ) accept it?

2. I also saw that there will be a Ubuntu release party in Winterthur,
how many people usually go? In Portugal we had a monthly Ubuntu
meeting, for everyone how wanted to come talk or get help, there
average would be around 6/7 persons, the max we got was about 15.

Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/~igama
Twitter : https://twitter.com/igama
Blog : www.igamahq.org ( i've been a bit lazy on this point... )

Cheers,

You might already have heard some rumors, and yes, they are true: we are
planning to extend the Release Party in Winterthur to the first Swiss
Ubucon. The 12 in the name stands for the year ;)

The aim is to have talks and workshops over the day and the Release
Party in the evening (at a bar nearby).

At the moment we are in early planning stage, but if you are interested
in helping out in some kind of form (either planning, or orga at the
event), just let me know.

Greetings and a Happy New Year
Marcus

PS: Most of you whose names are on the Regional contacts list, should
already have received a Happy New Year welcome package. If you are not
one of these lucky guys/girls I was unable to figure out your address.
If you want to be in loop, next time, either publish your address on the
Regional Contacts page or sent me a PM.

<pre>Hi,

i hope this is the right way to ask this question, sorry if not!
Since i used first time Ubuntu (7.04) i am a fan from it.
So 3 years ago i changed from electrican into the IT and worked as CCM in a
handy-software company and found out that i love programming (it was only
heterogene shell scripting, but i have unix-experience).
Now i am on the way to get an Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer
(OCPJP) but i have less experience in java.
During this reason i am searching for a way to get this experience and to
give something back to the ubuntu community.
Maybe i could help with things where real professionals already got bored
from it.
I would also be interrested to work on harder projects so far i am able to
and dont get a applied load to this projects.

The Swiss Ubuntu LoCo team would like to do some cleanup on the regional
contact list:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SwissTeam/RegionalContacts

Therefore I need to know if you are still willed to act as contact person.

I have added a Status 2011 column to the table on the wiki page. If you
are still active in contributing to the Ubuntu community, please fill in
Active. If you are on hold, but perhaps want to contribute again, next
year, fill in Inactive.

Please do this until 20111020.

If your status is still unknown afterwards, you will be removed from the
list.

This process will be repeated in autumn next year, as then the status
will be reset to unknown again.

Please also make sure, that you also have subscribed to the ubuntu-ch
Mailinglist:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-ch

as the next announcement will be only sent out to the list, not via PM.

<pre>Hi all.

We currently lack of marketing material that could be hand out or used
for booth setup at events.

Therefor I have asked Myrian to bring the rest she has to Zurich and
asked Canonical to sent us some stuff.

I am going to move the Media Management page to a new one called
Marketing Material, if that's ok.

There we can track who has what. Media will not be counted there. You
can just request it and I will tell you how much you can get.

If you request things like booth cloth or banners, please make sure that
it comes back to Zurich after the event.

Hopefully we can equip you more, for the next event.

Wiki Start Page

<pre>Hi all.

I have updated the wiki start page. Removed some icons and restructured
some text in order to get a cleaner and easier to read look &amp; feel.

Next thing is to add language specific subpages for French, German and
Italian.

I am not yet sure if the language subpages should be completly
independent from each other (e.g. for the ppl from the Romandy other
things might be important than for the ppl from Ticino).

What do you think?
