Senior Linux Systems Administrator at Smartleaf [Cambridge MA USA]

<pre>
Senior Systems Administrator at Smartleaf

We are looking for a systems administration generalist to join
the IT/Ops team. A successful candidate is likely to have 8 or more
years of experience managing Linux and other UNIX systems.

Smartleaf is a small, profitable, and privately held company which
helps some of the largest firms in finance manage portfolios for their
clients. More details can, of course, be found in the obvious place:
http://www.smartleaf.com.

This is a hands-on operations team with 24/7 responsibility. Billions
of dollars of other people's money flow through our systems, and we
would rather not embarrass ourselves. Our processes are, or should be,
scalable, repeatable, and recoverable. We identify problems and help
solve them, no matter where they are in the systems. When we need a
better tool, we find it or build it. Our cardinal virtues are laziness,
impatience and hubris.

Our offices are a few minutes walk from the Kendall T stop in Cambridge,
MA. There's parking below us, a bike rack and a shower. Dress is casual.
This is not an all-remote position. Right to work in the USA is required.
An H1B visa is unlikely to be available.

This team handles:

* building and maintaining environments for development, test, and
  production
* building &amp; maintaining internal &amp; colo networks
* helping to maintain IT services such as mail, printing and Asterisk PBX
* some minor desktop user support - Linux, Mac, a few Windows.
* automating work with our configuration management system, Tuttle
* documenting work so that you are happy to see it at 3AM
* assisting in project planning, budgeting, and resource management
* and everything else that could possibly fall under the IT/Operations
  umbrella in a small company

There is an overnight on-call rotation. About 3% of your on-call nights
will involve actually being woken up -- we'd like to make that zero,
and you'll have power to help make those changes.

Our technology stack includes Debian Linux, a systems automation
suite called Tuttle, Oracle, Ruby, Rails, C++, Perl, git, svn. We use
RequestTracker for ticketing. Routers and firewalls are Cisco, Juniper
and Linux. We're moving off of Cisco and towards Juniper.

You should have experience with installation and configuration
automation. Some knowledge of Debian and RPM packaging systems is
desirable, as is familiarity with at least one configuration management
system such as cfengine, Puppet or Chef.

You must have:

* extensive systems administration experience
* preferably with Debian or Ubuntu and a Red Hat-style Linux distribution
* comfortable shell scripting and one or more of Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.
* strengths in several areas that complement our other team members

You must be:

* clever, competent, and kind.

Useful skills include:

* Other UNIXen besides Linux, especially NetBSD or OpenBSD
* Oracle, MySQL or Postgres administration
* IPsec, Postfix, qmail, BIND, Apache, C,
C++, Cisco, Juniper, mon, Samba, SVN, git, RequestTracker, Jira and
  similar tools.

Please send cover letters and resumes to future&lt; at &gt;smartleaf.com in plain text,
HTML, OpenOffice or PDF. In your cover letter, please tell us about an
interesting technical problem that you have solved.

Video Game Developer (Linux/C/C++/OpenGL) - permanent position in Wandsworth, London

<pre>Feral Interactive is a leading games publisher and developer that specializes in bringing the best “Triple-A” games to the Mac platform.

We are currently expanding our portfolio to include Linux and we are looking for experienced developers to assist with this process.

You will have experience developing on Linux, and any experience with games development or 3D graphics is an advantage.

This might suit a professional developer from another platform with a hobbyist background on Linux, and could be an exciting opportunity to combine your coding passion with your day job.

What experience should you have?

- Significant professional development experience
- Development experience on Linux (professional or hobbyist)
-       Strong C/C++ skills
- A good grasp of thread-safe programming

What else would help?

- A great degree in a technical discipline
- Games development experience
- Experience of 3D graphics using OpenGL and/or DirectX
- A passion for video games

What makes a great fit with Feral?

- A desire to do your best work all of the time
- Curiosity and a love of problem-solving
- The ability to work effectively without direct supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

What’s in it for you?

Feral is a small company, but we’re growing year-on-year and have a leading position as a Mac games publisher. You will be given significant responsibility from the start and that will increase as our team grows. You’ll work 40 hours a week, and unlike many game companies, we very rarely ask our employees to work overtime during ‘crunch’ periods.

The salary is competitive and dependent on your skills and previous experience, but if money is your principal criterion, this is probably not the job for you.

We think Feral is a great place to work: serious, but seriously fun. We’re a team of about thirty-five, so you’ll quickly get to know all your colleagues and will work directly with almost every one of them. That means you’ll be involved in key parts of major projects from the off, and you’ll soon see the fruits of your labours enjoyed by our customers worldwide.

How do I apply?

devjobs (at) feralinteractive.com

You should address your application to Ian Bullock, our Head of Technology.

Feral Interactive is a leading publisher and developer of “Triple-A” Mac games based in south-west London. Recent hit titles include Empire: Total War, Batman: Arkham City, F1 2012 and Borderlands.

JOB - VP of Engineering/CTO - San Francisco, CA

<pre>This is a full time, on-site, salaried VP of Engineering position located in
San Francisco, CA paying $150,000 to $175,000 depending on experience +
start-up equity package and benefits. No telecommuting allowed. US Citizens
or Green Card holders only please. Local candidates *strongly* preferred,
but applicants with perfect-match qualifications interested in relocating
considered too. Thank you.

** Candidates MUST be coming out of a similar type of start-up. The area is
called 'media curation' or in other words: online picture sharing. Our
client is a Ruby shop so it's a huge plus to have a Rails background, but at
this level it's not as important as having a similar background.

Our client is one of the fastest growing social media websites in the Web
today with over 700M monthly page views and 20M global unique visitors.
Their recently-released iOS app went to #1 in the Social Networking category
in 19 countries. They do all of this with an extremely small team of
entrepreneurs and engineers. This is a rare opportunity to make an immediate
impact at an early-stage startup that has already achieved product / market
fit. The company is based in San Francisco and backed by world-class
investors with deep pockets.

Our client is looking for an experienced VP of Engineering to take ownership
of all of the technical aspects of the company, including development of
both their site and mobile apps and all supporting infrastructure. The ideal
candidate will have had a similar role at one or more startups, leading them
through periods of high growth, and will be used to managing high-traffic
sites. The company's team is both local and offshore, and the ideal
candidate will have experience leading a distributed team using agile
processes. Experience recruiting engineers

Although development is not expected to be a large part of the VP
Engineering's responsibilities, the ideal candidate will have hands-on
experience with full-stack web development. The ideal candidate will also
have had responsibility for network operation / infrastructure and should be
capable of managing systems administrators / DevOps engineers. iOS and/or
Android development would be a major plus, as would Big Data experience.

requirements to opensourcestaffing|AT|gmail.com
