2. Background
-------------
   Applicant writes:

Oh lordy, what a story. I'm a F/OSS evangelist, working with mostly
F/OSS software since 2003, finally switched off nonfree OSs in 2005,
and have been keeping myself mostly nonfree-free since. I started
major contributions to the F/OSS world when I started contributing to
Ubuntu in 2007. Since then, I've slowly migrated up to Debian, and
feel like I'd like to become an official part of the project here, as
   well.

3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Paul has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures
and answered all my questions about the social contract,
DFSG, BTS, etc. well. Paul committed to uphold the SC and DFSG
in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP.

4. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Paul has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian.
Paul is maintainer of fbautostart, fluxbox, python-sunlight and
   liblicense.
All packages are in good shape.
Paul also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems
and has been proving patches for RC bugs during the NM process.

5. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept Paul Tagliamonte as a Debian Developer.

   Applicant writes:
Firstly, I want to thank you for your attention. I would like to
apologize for my English and I hope my answers can be understood. :-)

Currently, I maintain atheist, linthesia (both as primary maintainer)
and zeroc-ice packages (co-maintaining with Franciso). In the latter
case, I adapted zeroc-ice packages to Debian Policy under Francisco
supervision. Francisco have not enough time to continue with
these packages, so it is sure I will take care about them.

I have done packages for ZThreads library (currently at NEW queue) and
CxxTest testing framework (still in develop).

I have feedback from different users via BTS mainly. I have tried to
close their bugs as soon as possible.

No. I am sponsored maintainer, but I plan to become a DD.

No, I'm not involved in any porting activity. However, I am
powerpc user (iBook G4) and I always solve my problem locally. I have
never published my results to Debian (sorry about this). I think I may
collaborate with Debian powerpc porting team in testing or building
packages tasks or writing manuals.

No.

I have reported bugs to following packages:

* firmware-b43-installer: 517032
* piuparts: 574936 and 573904 (both with accepted patchs)
* mcpp: 611749 (accepted NMU). We need this for zeroc-ice 3.4.1 version.
* go2: 570249 and 588270. Go2's maintainer is my workmate and he is
busy now. I will help him to solve that problems.
* zeroc-ice: 596719. Just for new upstream release.
* release.debian.org: 610023. I thought I could to solve some minor
bugs for Squeeze but I was wrong :-S.

Not a really participation. I got in contact with Tobias Grimm
(pkg-vdr-dvb-de team) because I was interested in libsockets package. I
have writting permissions to develop this package using their alioth
repository but that package is now less useful for me and I am not
spending time on it at the moment.

I have done tiny-collaborations with Holger Levsen in piuparts (less I
would like to). I hope to help piuparts project in the future.

I'm not really active at Debian list. Many times I am afraid to give my
opinion because Debian people is really good technically and I think my
opinion is worse. I hope to solve this issue ASAP :-).

More seriously, I have written many Debian-specific howtos at
crysol.org [1]. Furthermore, I have organized last Debian Release Party
[2] and were they were 20. I know is poor but I expected less than this
number.

I have given an official course titled "Introduction to GNU/Linux" in
my University and I used Debian as base distribution.

Beside maintaining tasks, I help to develop atheist testing framework.

I would like packaging role mainly, and maybe help with powerpc porting.

I am a beginner researcher and my interest are computer networks,
distributed systems and testing environments. I think I can offer my
little experience in project I will be involved.

I am a FSF member (6977) and I see free software as a social movement,
not only technical stuffs. In fact, I am organizing the Free Software
Days at Ciudad Real (Spain), where RMS will attend.

Finally, I would be happy to belong to a community like Debian
where very different people share the same objective.

   Google says:
Google agrees what's written above. He has a Linkedin profile[3] if
someone is interested and an outdated, Spanish blog[4].

3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Cleto has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures
and answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS,
etc. in a good way. He is committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his
Debian work and accepts the DMUP.

4. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Cleto has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian.
He is maintainer of asunder and zthreads (sponsored by Francisco
   Moya [paco]).
All packages are in good shape.
Also co-maintainer of atheist, libjsoncpp, linthesia,
   python-logging-extra, zeroc-ice and zeroc-ice-manual (non-free/doc).
Cleto also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems
and provided patches for RC bugs.

5. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept Cleto Martín Angelina as a Debian Developer.

Laszlo/GCS

2. Background

   Applicant writes:

I've started playing with computers 17 years ago, with an Intel 486. I
started writing little programs with BATCH and the with BASIC. Less
than two years later (I can't recall exactly when), I had contact with
GNU/Linux in a ISP owned by my uncle, the first one in town. I
modified a few scripts in Perl that would allow customers change their
passwords and query their access hours (by that time, you had to pay
for an hour of dial-up access).

By 1999, I bought a book of writing programs in C for Linux (in fact,
for GNU, since the focus were on gcc, gnu makefile, rcs and gnu libc).
That was when I've really become a programmer.

But it was not until 2002, about a year after I've moved to a bigger
city to go to college, that I've found out what Free Software really
was. Until then, I've only heard about Linux and Open Source. Nothing
about GNU or Free Software. I was used to Conectiva, which, at the
start, was a translated copy of Red Hat (I still own their first box,
which they call Conectiva Red Hat Linux). The person who enlightened
me was Gustavo Noronha (kov< at >debian.org), and I got into reading Free
Software Foundation Philosophy section all that weekend.

I decided to try Linux From Scratch, in which I built an entire
system, including toolchain, and that taught me a lot about the
technical details of how the system worked. When my filesystem
crashed, more than a year later, I decided to really try Debian, and
that is the system I've been using for more than eight years now.

I've contributed to many free softwares fixing bugs mostly and I
usually report and send patches for some Debian bugs and upstream
bugs. I've been working with the XMPP team and still report and try
to fix some bugs in the way.

I have been working lately with ppc64 and I have an interest in
helping with this new port.

3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Thadeu has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures and
answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS, etc. in a
good way. Thadeu committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his Debian work and
   accepts the DMUP.

4. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Thadeu has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian. He is
maintainer of landell, libiksemel, udns and co-maintainer of several
packages, including apt-listchanges, gsasl, gstreamer-hplugins, and other
xmpp-related. Gustavo Noronha Silva (kov) and Marcelo Jorge Vieira (metal)
   have sponsored Thadeu's packages.

Thadeu also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems
and provided patches for RC bugs:

http://bugs.debian.org/448561
http://bugs.debian.org/453220
http://bugs.debian.org/403100

minechangelogs reports also sending a patch to solve a bug in totem.

5. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept Thadeu Cascardo as a Debian Developer.

2. Background
-------------
   Applicant writes:

A bit about me.. chronologically (I hope this isn't too long) :)

My first computer was a Commodore 64, when I was 8 years old. I had used
the Vic 20 in my 1st grade classroom a little, but never alone. The
Commodore 64, combined with the local "ComputorEdge" magazine was a
fascinating thing, as the magazine printed a new short BASIC program
every month which I could type in and then modify to observe slightly
   different behavior.

Fast forward to 1995, when I got my first 80386 computer. It ran DOS 6.0
and then Windows 95 at first, but the magic started when my step father
handed me a book called "Linux Universe". It had a CD-ROM based version
of Linux on it, and I immediately fell in love.

I installed Slackware first, and used that for a few months. Then the ease
of RedHat installation pulled me in for a while. However, in 1997, when
I got my first job as an I.T. guy, Debian really won my heart over. I
had need to build a remote print server to talk to an HP-UX machine,
and Debian was the only one that I could get to do it right.

I proceeded to setup Debian machines as my home firewall and file
servers for the next 4 years. In business, I used Debian as my firewall
OS of choice, moving from slink to potato to woody. I ran a successful
consulting business fueled largely by implementing firewalls, spam
filters and mail servers for small businesses on top of Debian.

Then sarge came, and just didn't release for so so long. This was quite
hard to take, and I even expressed some of my (uninformed) frustrations:

   http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/11/msg00158.html

Pretty soon, my hand was forced at work, we had to have some newer stuff,
and sarge just wasn't released. We went with Redhat 9, and then later
CentOS. I always longed to run Debian on the server though.

The whole time I kept Debian on my workstation, in fact, my workstation
which started life as woody, was running Debian unstable until 7 years
   later when I moved jobs.

Then in May 2010, I took a position with Canonical on the Ubuntu
server team. This was like a dream job, getting paid to work on a
debian derivative and make it shine where I always knew it would most
   (in large environments).

While working on Ubuntu server, it became clear to me that Debian still
had its place in my heart, and that we really needed to work together
closely, Ubuntu and Debian. So I started pushing packages and patches
back to Debian where possible. I even finally packaged my old cli app,
   pipemeter, for Debian.

In working on plumbing and boot stuff for Debian, and on some of the
bigger language stacks like Ruby and PHP, its become clear that much of
my Ubuntu work will be a huge benefit to Debian users. This is especially
true in the case of MySQL, where Norbert Tretkowski has had little time
to spend on maintaining it, but where I have both great interest, and
actual paid allocated time in maintaining it (for both Debian and Ubuntu).

My goals as a Debian Developer are:

   * Have the best possible maintained MySQL packages in both Debian and
     Ubuntu

   * Assist Steve Langasek in helping to make Upstart a viable pid 1 option
     in Debian.

   * Assist in sponsoring uploads for the ruby and python modules teams.

   * Better maintain my own packages without need for sponsors.

I look forward to the process, thanks!

3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Clint has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures
and answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS,
etc. in a good way. Clint committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his
Debian work and accepts the DMUP.

4. Tasks and Skills (FIXME)
-------------------
Clint has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian.
Clint is maintainer of several packages, including being comaintainer
   of MySQL.

The minechangelogs output lists sending patches upstream, multiarch
work, a security update of MySQL and various kinds of work since July
   2010.

5. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept Clint Byrum as a Debian Developer.

Ciao,

Enrico

2. Background
-------------
   Applicant writes:
I've been toying with linux for many years and now run it as the
main OS on one of my machines. I don't remember why I first got into it but I
think it's because I liked the idea of an OS that was free.

My first linux experiences were with Red Hat and Slackware based
distros but I never really got to know them. From there I moved on to knoppix
hdinstalls and then to plain Debian which I have over the years
learnt more and more about it and started contributing.

I think it's mainly because I get a buzz out of fixing bugs. Also I
have been using beagleboards recently and would like to have a port
that takes full advantage of them hence why I started contributing to the armhf
   port.

I've submitted many fixes for FTBFS bugs (both existing bugs and
newly reported bugs), some were quickly picked up by maintainers but others
languished for a long time or were never fixed. I considered preparing NMUs but didn't
see much point when I couldn't upload them.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any easy way to search the BTS
for bugs I contributed patches too but the following google search [1] reveals
   a load of them.

Then when the armhf port hit the official archive I shifted focus
from general build failures/FTBFS bugs to build failures that were happing on
armhf (many of them because the package had built some time ago but
was no longer buildable in current sid).

Then when armhf finished building most of unstable and was added to
testing I shifted focus to getting armhf testing into a usable
state. As I was contributing to armhf I started interacting on irc
with Steve and Hector who (among others) encouraged me to apply for
DD status. During this time I prepared three NMUs.

I'm interested in the continued viability of debian on arm and in
particular the new armhf port though not being an expert on the architecture my
contributions are limited to fixing relatively simple to understand
issues (qreal VS double being a big one)

I'm interested in keeping freepascal in a usable state within
Debian and I really want to see armhf released with wheezy and
including freepascal. For the goal of getting arm released with
wheezy i'm working on trying to get the uninstallability count down and in
particular getting certain key packages installable in armhf testing. Mostly
this means getting bugs fixed in packages that we need to migrate.

For the goal of getting freepascal available on armhf I'm currently
working with upstream on porting efforts. I'll backport the work to
the version in Debian afterI get it working with upstream trunk.

3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Peter has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures
and answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS, etc.
in a good way. Peter committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his
Debian work and accepts the DMUP.

4. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Peter has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian.
Peter also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems and
provided patches for RC bugs. Since he currently doesn't maintain any package,
he promptly answered my extra T&S questions in a very good way.

5. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept Peter Green as a Debian Developer.
