Bug#674668: Starting Evolution often crashes the GNOME session

<pre>Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.2.2.1-4
Severity: grave
Justification: Entire session crashes; can cause serious data loss

Hi,

for about a week now, I've had sudden crashes of the GNOME session, i.e.
the X session terminates (killing all running programs in the process)
and I'm back at the login screen. These crashes have always happened
directly after starting Evolution from gnome-shell's dash.

I first suspected a video driver bug, but now I've seen seen these
crashes on two machines (both with an up-to-date 64-bit Debian testing)
with different video cards. When trying to reproduce this behavior, I
discovered that I could reliably crash the session simply by starting
and closing Evolution repeatedly (on average about 10 times).

I've attached two .xsession-errors files from such crashes (line #42
from file #2 seems to be particularly interesting). Unfortunately there
have been no messages in the dmesg output. Please tell me if you need
anything else to reproduce and/or debug this problem.

Best regards

Alexander Kurtz

Bug#653011:

<pre>The solution for XFCE appears to be a patch to xfce4-session and to
enable 'GNOME compatibility mode' by default:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/932177

"What happens is that if gnome-keyring components are not initialized
through XDG autostart any more they will be DBus-activated (see
https://live.gnome.org/GnomeKeyring/RunningDaemon). So when they start
adding back the autostart files for them the warnings will disappear
because there will be no DBus-activation but the SSH/GPG components
will not magically start working outside GNOME. So the only bug here
is that these people are trying to use GNOME keyring without
initializing it properly using the methods I've described before."

"Making it work is relatively simple starting with Xfce 4.10 you just
need to follow https://live.gnome.org/GnomeKeyring/Pam and enable
GNOME compat mode.
For Xfce 4.8 it is more complicated because xfce4-session would need
to be patched with backports of commit
0fea8c64bfc32915d9e397e7029de150167a737d and
67b772364c9e9a7ea9cc4dafb219902c6c8b074a in order to make GNOME compat
mode usable."

<pre>Package: libbonobo2-0
Version: 2.24.3-1
Severity: normal

It seems the bonobo-activation-server process does not end at session logout, sometimes, probably not all the time else I would have even more processes than the 18 ones currently running. I cannot figure out what triggers the fact it reamins after session logout. There is however no noticable harm visibile for user ... while there is still room to create other processes. I could workaround it issuing a "killall bonobo-activation-server" from cron/fcron nighlty.

<pre>Dear Maintainer,

from my point of view this bug may be closed.

I changed my button layout definition from "close, minimize, maximize" to
"close, minimize, maximize:". This solved the issue for me.

Regards,
Sven

Bug#563943: evince: fails to properly render some documents

<pre>Package: evince
Version: 3.4.0-2
Followup-For: Bug #563943

Dear Maintainer,

Noticed this also happening. Until the recent update to the versions
bellow it was working fine and i never noticed that (let me know if
knowing the previous version is of help, i can hunt down how to get
that information from some apt-get log), but it may be that i just never
opened the offending files for a while.

one very common file that never gave me problem is the notorious MIT
guide to lock picking.

you can easily search for it online,
"mitlg-a4.pdf" as it's mirrored everywhere.

the md5sum is 5890ad5ed694b9ad85b689221a2fc263

The file renders with a bunch of "___" where words should be. but they
are not exactly "_" as the character would be if properly rendered. it's
a bunch of noise from the original letter, reduced to what looks like
"_". You can almost tell the correct layout of the text, but can't read
a single letter.

Also, changing pages with files that trigger this bug, will make evince
hang there for some time on page 3 or 4. but this is not 100%. and i
didn't notice this delay ever with the OK files.

Of note, the file mentioned in message #15 renders like that to me too.

Further investigaton, revelead this pattern:
mitlg-a4.pfg - PDF version 1.2 - fail
CoplanarPts.pdf - PDF version 1.2 - fail
other 3 files - PDF version 1.5 - OK
other 2 files - PDF version 1.3 - OK

Bug#674497: after searching in gnome-shell overview gjs-console isconsuming 100% CPU

<pre>Package: gjs
Version: 1.32.0-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

every time I type anything in the gnome-shell overview, it searches
for applications/whatever. That is by design.

But when I leave the search and the overview, still gjs-console continues
to consume 100% of CPU for extended time, sometimes up to 30 secs.
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
7223 norbert 20 0 394m 22m 14m S 99.4 0.6 0:42.21 gjs-console

Is there a reason why this is not handled in a different way?
Is there a way to configure or debug gjs?

Thanks

Norbert
