Dispatches #37 Update & Playtesters Needed.

<pre>Hello to all my ASL Comrades. The subject lines says it all as we
steam
ahead on Dispatch #37 and have 3 of the 4 scenarios ready for
outside
playtesting. If you are interested in helping out, Please reply
and let me
know which one you want to play. As per usual, a FREE Copy of
Issue
#37 is yours for trying either of the first 2 listed, anyone who
likes
large PTO melees check out the Mawchi Road, I'll give you 2 FREE
issues
for taking on that one. Here they are:
Stossgruppe Schlicter: Nice tourney sized offering from Bruce Childs finds
us in Norway 1940 as the German force is trying to remove a roadblock,
cause
casualties and exit. Quick playing with variable game length. Boards 34
&amp; 37.
Anchoring the Line: The latest RB action from Any Hershey see the
Germans
on defense on New Years Eve 1942 in the east-central part of the
Barricades.
Reinforced infantry companies on both sides as the Russians try to take
back
buildings from the German defenders. Variable VPs for buildings in the
German
set up area lead to a guessing game on what they are worth. Nice SSRs
spice
things up.
Mawchi Road: A big, large, nasty PTO fight from Joe Gochinski sees Brits
of
the Royal Berkshire Regiment trying to clear the Mawchi Road at Toungoo,
Burma.
Both sides have 3 company sized infantry units that are augmented from a
pool
of Divisional assets including SMCs/SWs/Ordnance for the IJA and a fleet
of
various armed carriers for the British. Although a Big Scenario on Boards
50, 63 &amp; q,
it plays fairly short due to only being 6.5 turns long and with all that
firepower units
tend to disappear quickly as well. Killer scenario in every way.
Also due out but not quite ready for outside testing (should be soon)
is:
LZ S: Mike Puccio's latest look at the Glider attacks into Germany in March
'45.
Reinforced company of glider troops with plenty of SWs and some ordnance
land
around and possibly amidst German artillery positions on Boards 1a, 43
&amp; 44.
Taking out the guns is the goal. I'll let you know when we can send this
one out to playtest.
Also in #37 we'll have another article by Kedge and Carl continues his
Tactical Tips.
As you know by now, I have been transitioning from paper to pdf.
issues.
I have a limited number of Paper copies of Issues #34, 35 &amp; 36
left,
anyone who wants all plus a 4 issue subscription will also get
pdf. file
copies of those 3 and a total of 6 issues all together for
$20.00.
All Dispatches Issues have been converted to pdf. file format
with a Huge
effort by my Printing MVP Ralph McDonald.

The cost for a Digital The WORKs Order (All 36 Issues plus a 4
Issue
Subscription starting with current Issue #36) is $60.00.

As for the individual pdf. issues, if the Issue you are
looking to purchase
has all original content still in it is $3.00, any issue that
saw something
re-published by MMP will have that page removed, and an
informational page
in its place telling you what MMP publication to find it in,
those issues are
just $2.00 Each (#01, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08. 10, 13, 16, 17,
18 &amp; 19).
If wanting just pdf. issues for a subscription, it is only
$15.00.

Please e-mail me before ordering individual pdf. issues on
what I can do for you price
wise if ordering 5 or more issues.
We have the usual 4 scenarios for current Issue #36 and here
they are:

Assyrian Ambush: The 2nd in the Battle for Iraq series by Ted
Wilcox sees elements
of the Iraqi Independent Mechanized Brigade running the
gauntlet through Bd 57
as British trained and equipped Iraqi levies try to stop them
from exiting. All armor
vs all infantry in 1941 for a quick playing tourney
action.

The Police Station: Joe Gochinski has another in the Hong Kong
battles with action
starting immediately with on board melees at start as the
Japanese 38th Division tries
to capture the Police Station, with it's overwatch position
from the Winnipeg Grenadiers.
Reinforced company side elements on both sides and a strong
Canadian defensive position
with fortifications makes for a taught battle until the end.
6.5 turns makes it just small
enough to fit into a tourney time slot or 5 to 6 hour time
frame. Exciting action for sure.

Hunting Gray Wolves: The latest in the NKVD series from our
own Tom Morin sees a sweep
by a company of NKVD 6-2-8s supported by mixed armor and air
support trying to dig out
Graywolve Partisans in the Ukraine. Board 34 is where the
action is and comes down to
much close range fighting and CC. Lots of FUN for both sides
as CVPs and Hut Control
are the VCs.

Defending the Twin Villages: The Battle of the Bulge setting
of the approaches to
Rocherath-Krinkelt on boards 5 &amp; 32 sees Kampfgruppe
Muller of the 12th SS Hitler
Jugend crashing into the valiant GIs of the 2nd Infantry
Division. 18 (6-5-8) SS squads
supported by 5 x JgdPz IV/70 Tank Destroyers attack a company
of mixed American
squads with a bunch of SWs, a 81* Mtr a 2 x M4A3/76W Sherman
76L tanks. A fairly
large action taking 8.5 turns with the SS trying to break
through. Much maneuver and
lots of firepower here.

Kedge
has another nice article, looking at the state of ASL in 2013. Carl
Nogueira
has more
Tactical Tips and I'll have all the usual
scoop on the regional ASL scene.

Guadalcanal at the Ilu River (Alligator Creek).

Also
Please remember that Dispatch #23 is devoted to

Today we take Chicago, or,"Please Don't Throw Me In That Cactus Patch" (AAR)

<pre>I played my first match and won my first victory on North American soil against Jim Serafin at an undisclosed location deep in the suburbs of the City Of Broad Shoulders. Gave Jim a short list of three scenarios I liked and he picked J50, "The Cactus Farm" from Journal 3. It depicts elements of Division Hermann Goering trying to delay the inevitable 8th Army advance on Tunis. We diced for sides and I drew the defending Jerries.

This scenario is set on the upper half of board 43 (to the north) and the lower half of board 11. VC require the Tommies by game end to both grab at least 6 building locations in a 2-hex perimeter around 43M8 (making up what is commonly known as the Koresh Compound - the O10 stone building outside the wall is not one of these, however) and prevent the Germans from accumulating &gt;14 VP, awarded as 1 VP per above building location controlled, and also Exit VP for units on an L2 plateau created from SSR by the grain depiction around 11Z5 on the L1 hill mass. Thus the British must press the attack broadly across both boards and prevail in two different areas to win, a fairly high bar at the outset.

This is not a desert scenario, but several not-too-obtrusive SSRs give it a distinct flavor. The Germans have ATMM and 100mm OBA (offboard observer), but the British have FB support (albeit not bombed-up). The British are required to move their vehicles through three specified trail breaks in a line of 3AT minefield hexes stretching across the front of most of their entry area (NOTE: The SSR does not specify the hex sides the trail breaks cross; we agreed that the British could position them at will). Grain is open ground.

The most notable SSR substitutes cactus hedges (hedge TEM, but Min Move, Low Crawl or Adv vs Difficult Terrain to cross) for walls and hedges, and cactus patches (3x MF/MP, +1 TEM, inherent 1/2 level LOS obstacle like rubble) for orchards. This denied the Germans the +2 Wall TEM benefit but provided a few more interesting places for them to hide, and made British capture of the renamed Kaktus Kompound a more prickly proposition, if you will.

OBs at first glance suggest the Fritzes will have a tough go of things given that they face 9 Churchills (2 with unlimited smoke ammunition, plus an 8-1 AL), but a closer look reveals the British infantry to be inferior, possessing less than a 2:1 squad advantage (64FP:44FP), which is not really offset by MGs (24FP: 20FP when adjusted for rate). They do receive two 2-inch MTRs, however, and although German leaders are tough (9-2 &amp; 8-1), there are only two so they are busy and brittle. The PaK 40 (APCR only) have but a 14TK so at first would seem to present little threat to British armor. Though the FlaK 38 would seem a strong deterrent to the FB, the plane's armor reduces the light AA DR needed to damage it to 4.

I set up the 4 trenches on the victory hill summit in 11Y5, Y6, Z4 and Z5, putting the 9-2 with a 548/MMG (bore sight 43CC6) in Z4 and one ATG in Y5 (BS 43D2, one of the trail break hexes). Initially I stuck the AA in 11AA10 to hold the left flank as well as provide cover from the FB, but soon thought the better of it and plopped him in Z5 where he would remain HIP until he shot at the FB, or gave some charging Tommies a reason to regret crossing the L2 crest line. Here he would also contribute 4VP to prevent British victory if he lived to game end.

The other MMG went with a 548 and 8-1 in 43M9 L1 (BS A7), while the second ATG anchored the right and covered the center from 43L0 (BS J8). Both MMG bore-sighted hexes were obvious enough that Jim avoided walking into them. OBA observer was at 11GG10 L4. The Kubelwagen AAMG is useless against the FB, and as I saw no real need to tow any guns, I parked it in 43N6 to create a hindrance (at least until destroyed) over the road opening in the cactus hedge, and would abandon it in T1(G) to add a much more useful 127/LMG to my OB. I made one setup error by concealing an unpossessed DC in the O7-O8 building. Jim forgave this and allowed it to remain on board, but the gods did right by him as I was never allowed to fall back and pick it up.

Another interesting thing about this scenario is that the British can stagger their entry from off-board over the first three turns, allowing Jim to scout ahead a bit and clear strong points or suspected ambushes before exposing more valuable assets to German fire. If memory serves, Jim brought everyone on by the Adv Ph of T2.

Here is a list of highlights and lowlights up to the middle game to give you an idea of the flow:
(+) Decided I must not let myself be intimidated by tanks and focus on infantry VC are building control; positioned setup to catch troops on entry hexes and strip them off the armor, and in first two turns kept as many as 8 squads DM/broken
(-) Left 1.5 squads and hero/DC in place in the forward woods mass at junction of boards for too long, allowing them to be surrounded and cut off in T2; only the 238 survived, the hero died poorly but the 548 went down swinging
(+) As the PaKs have no HE they must have infantry protection in front of them and be given a chance to engage the Churchills without being exposed to the inevitable British kill stack
(-) Should have attempted more DI shots in early turns as only a TH DR6 is needed against a stopped Churchill; as many as 4 tanks might have been halted that way given my low TH DRs
(+) British must respect the German ATMM and cannot risk overrun if infantry are not marked first fire; the forward 548 took down the first Churchill of the game on a missed OVR, and the 238 running with him bagged another (and created an 8-1!) on a CC DR2.

Turns 1 and 2 were a joy for me against Jim's infantry but his armor appeared unstoppable. The ATGs accumulated at least 10 hits between them, but my best TK DR was a 7. However, a lot of Jim's infantry was left broken on his start line, and his KIA began to mount. I eventually X'ed the hilltop MMG but had no regrets using it to the fullest.

In T3 the PaKs finally started to obtain kills, though, so that by the end of T4(B) I believe Jim was down to 3 mobile tanks. However, in T4(G) my center and the Kaktus Kompound defense broke down when I overlooked the appearance of the FB in T3 and paid dearly for it, leaving a 548 CR, the 127 KIA and the first 8-1 wounded when they tried to play pick-up-sticks in the street with the LMG and DC. To add to my embarrassment, I forgot my own OBA. Doh!

Fortunately these errors did not affect the outcome. The guys on the hill (2 crewed guns, 3 squads and the 9-2 for 17VP) were not going anywhere. Jim had to concede in the T5(G) MPh after a sighting TC DR 11 when it was clear that although he could probably grab the Kaktus Kompound, he did not have enough infantry or other forces remaining on his right to kick the Germans off, and his board 43 force would not make it over in time to help.

Salute to Jim for trucking his kit over to my hotel for this session. I owe him an opportunity to even the score between us. Although I'm a Minnesota boy, and also have many fine memories of Boston, I wish him (this year, at least) and his Blackhawks a Stanley Cup championship.

I ain't no Kid Chicago,
I don't know no Al Capone...

will be space at my hotel for two or three games, so happy to host a small
party, as long as you locals can supply the kit. If you're looking for an
easy mark should contact me off line.

Cheers!

Dispatches Memorial Day Sale

<pre>Hello to all
my ASL Comrades. To celebrate Memorial Day and all this
Holiday
means I'm putting all our pdf. and Paper Issue Bundles on sale
and here is
how it works.

All
Dispatches Issues have been converted to pdf. file format with a Huge
effort by my
Printing MVP Ralph McDonald. I do have a limited number
of Paper
Issues available as well, more on those a little farther down.

The usual
cost for a Digital The WORKs Order (All 36 Issues plus a 4 Issue
Subscription
starting with current Issue #36) is $60.00. Now through
Memorial Day
they will be $50.00. That is 39 Issues in total and over
100
Scenarios! That is less than $.50 cents a scenario, which is a pretty
good deal,
whether it is 2013 or 1993.

I do still
have a limited number of Paper Issues #34, 35 &amp; 36, a 4 Issue
Subscription
including those 2 Back Issues is normally +$20.00, through
Memorial Day
it is $16.00

As for the
individual pdf. issues, if the Issue you are looking to purchase
has all
original content still in it is $3.00, any issue that saw something
re-published
by MMP will have that page removed, and an informational page
in its place
telling you what MMP publication to find it in, those issues are
just $2.00
Each (#01, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08. 10, 13, 16, 17, 18 &amp; 19).
If wanting
just pdf. issues for a subscription, it is only $15.00.

Please
e-mail me before ordering individual pdf. issues on what I can do for you price
wise if
ordering 5 or more issues.

We have
started work on Issue #37 and I'll have a summary of the 4 scenarios going
into it with
my next update in June.

We have the
usual 4 scenarios for #36 and here they are:

Assyrian
Ambush: The 2nd in the Battle for Iraq series by Ted Wilcox sees elements
of the Iraqi
Independent Mechanized Brigade running the gauntlet through Bd 57
as British
trained and equipped Iraqi levies try to stop them from exiting. All armor
vs all
infantry in 1941 for a quick playing tourney action.

The Police
Station: Joe Gochinski has another in the Hong Kong battles with action
starting
immediately with on board melees at start as the Japanese 38th Division
tries
to capture
the Police Station, with it's overwatch position from the Winnipeg
Grenadiers.
Reinforced
company side elements on both sides and a strong Canadian defensive position
with
fortifications makes for a taught battle until the end. 6.5 turns makes it just
small
enough to
fit into a tourney time slot or 5 to 6 hour time frame. Exciting action for
sure.

Hunting Gray
Wolves: The latest in the NKVD series from our own Tom Morin sees a sweep
by a company
of NKVD 6-2-8s supported by mixed armor and air support trying to dig out
Graywolve
Partisans in the Ukraine. Board 34 is where the action is and comes down to
much close
range fighting and CC. Lots of FUN for both sides as CVPs and Hut Control
are the
VCs.

Defending
the Twin Villages: The Battle of the Bulge setting of the approaches to
Rocherath-Krinkelt on boards 5 &amp; 32 sees Kampfgruppe Muller
of the 12th SS Hitler
Jugend
crashing into the valiant GIs of the 2nd Infantry Division. 18 (6-5-8) SS
squads
supported by
5 x JgdPz IV/70 Tank Destroyers attack a company of mixed American
squads with
a bunch of SWs, a 81* Mtr a 2 x M4A3/76W Sherman 76L tanks. A fairly
large action
taking 8.5 turns with the SS trying to break through. Much maneuver and
lots of
firepower here.

Kedge
has another nice article, looking at the state of ASL in 2013. Carl
Nogueira
has more
Tactical Tips and I'll have all the usual
scoop on the regional ASL scene.

T-34 expends extra MP to enter wooden bldg containing 2 enemy squads, one w/DC - OVR is not declared. can the squad with DC attack the T-34 with the DC as non-CC Reaction Fire if no OVR declared? can the enemy squads attack T-34 as CC reaction fire, even though no OVR declared? can the DC be used in it's own hex vs OVR if defending unit with DC is not Japanese, or vehicle that would be attacked is not in VBM?

thanks,

<pre>Hi Guys -

I had a great time at West Coast Melee (as always).
Thank you to everyone who makes it happen, and to all my opponents.
My top 5 WCM XVI moments (see attached pic):

5. Driving to WCM, when that feeling finally hits that, yes, I really
am off to 4 days of playing ASL. YeeHaw!

4. Receiving the personalized plaque for doing well at last year's WCM
XV just as I was being beaten and thus eliminated from WCM XVI.
Definitely mitigated my anguish.

3. Seeing Paul's ASL T-shirt quilt, composed of 8 past WCM shirt
designs and accoutrements. Finally, something to do with my 30+ ASL
shirts! I sense a business opportunity here...

2. Presenting Jim Aikens with the present we all signed expressing our
tremendous gratitude for him being such a great and long-serving club
president.

1. Getting to hang out and play ASL with so many long time ASL buddies
(most of whom have eyesight in decline, can't stay up past 11 pm, and
wouldn't want to be anywhere else - just like me!).

Thanks again guys - see you next year if not sooner -

- Robert

<pre>Howdy all,

Not getting any immediate takers on my recent
posting on Game-Squad for a VASL PBEM
opponent for a playing of the Operation
Watchtower (Edson’s Ridge) CG, I am
going old-fashioned and posting on
the ASLML!

I am also interested in doing the Festung

I prefer a reasonably experienced ASLer

<pre>Hello to all
my ASLl Comrades. In the wake of Dispatches from the Bunker
#36 shipping
out just after the Nor'Easter tournament, we now have all
Dispatches
Back Issues available as pdf. files.

This latest
issue is going to be the last paper issue that I will be mailing
out as we
transition to pdf. file format going forward. I have run out of almost
all the
paper back-issues, all that is left are #34, #35 &amp; new Issue #36.
Anyone
looking to grab them before they are gone, see ordering Info down
towards the
bottom of this update.

Speaking of
pdf. issues, through a ton of help from Ralph McDonald, we now
have all
Dispatches Back Issues available at a nominal charge. Any issue
that has
all original content still in it is $3.00, any issue that saw something
re-published
by MMP will have that page removed, and an informational page
in its place
telling you what MMP publication to find it in, those issues are
just $2.00
Each (#01, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08. 10, 13, 16, 17, 18 &amp; 19).
If wanting
just pdf. issues for a subscription, it is only $15.00. To get all 36
Issues on
pdf. plus a 4 issue subscription the new digital WORKs orders are
now
$60.00.
Please
e-mail me before ordering the pdf. issues on what I can do for you price
wise if
ordering 5 or more issues.

Dispatches #36 shipping out by Thursday

<pre>Hello to all
my ASL Comrades. I am very glad to announce that
Dispatches
from the Bunker #36 will be shipping out by Thursday
this week
after getting it published for this past weekend's Nor'Easter
tournament.
(What a glorious event it was, great time!).

This latest
issue is going to be the last paper issue that I will be mailing
out as we
transition to pdf. file format going forward.
Again, see
ordering
Info below. Please e-mail me before ordering the pdf. issues on what
I can do for
you price wise.

We have the
usual 4 scenarios for #36 and here they are:

Kedge

Nogueira
has more
Tactical Tips and I'll have all the usual
scoop on the regional ASL scene.

For those unfamiliar with Dispatches, it is a 12 page Amateur
ASL

a year, sometime in
March and September courtesy of the New

Remember, Dispatch #28 included Tom
Morin's 3 scenarios and
5 date mini-campaign of the brutal battle that took
place on
Guadalcanal at the Ilu River (Alligator Creek).

Also Please
remember that Dispatch #23 is devoted to
VotG including the 3 scenarios that
Tom Morin designed
specifically for the newsletter, analysis of each,
Tom's
VotG Saga and Jim Torkelson's look at VotG from the
German point of
view.
Speaking
of old Dispatches, MMP published 'Out of the Bunker' featuring
scenarios
that originally were published in Issues #01 - #20. See the link

<pre>Hi,

last week-end I and 15 other guys met in Lyon, France, for a small
tournament that's been happening for several years now. The attendance
was mostly French (obviously) with people from Lyon, Marseille and
Lille. But there was an international element with yours truly from
nearby Switzerland, as well as Tim "American by birth, French by heart"
Hundsdorfer - who, I was very pleased to learn, doesn't live all that
far from my place. Great fun and excellent food was had by all :-) Many
thanks to Lionel Dondé and his team for organizing this.

I will not go too much into the details of the tournament, let's just
say I finished at rank 12 out of 16, my best performance so far. For
more details, use either your highschool French skills or Google
Translate on the French ASL forum:

http://aslforum.histofig.com/smf/index.php?topic=9615.0

During the one game I won (ESG91 It's not over, with me as the French),
a most unlikely thing happened:

- my opponent easily passed a MC, but triggered my sniper (nothing
incredible so far)
- the Sniper rolled a 1 (rare, but OK, such things happen)
- after moving the Sniper, the nearest enemy stack was a Melee
containing a very scared HS on my side, a 9-2 Leader + 2 squads + the
enemy Sniper (you don't get such targets everyday, right?)
- I decided not to target the Axis Sniper and rolled for Random
Selection; guess what, I got the Leader!
- both Squads rolled boxcars for their LLMC!

Needless to say, this cleared up the situation quite a bit for me. I
mean, what were the odds?

WHAT WERE THE ODDS? I couldn't leave this question unanswered and
decided to investigate.
Here are the steps we can use to calculate the final probability:

1) Sniper rolls 1, easy, that's 1/6 = 16.67%
2) both squads roll boxcars, easy too, that's 1/36 times 1/36 = 0.077%
3) Random selection hitting the Leader, this is more complicated:
- the Leader dr could be 6, and he would be hit in all cases (100%, or
216/216 as we'll use it here);
- it could be 5, and all other drs should be 5 or less, with odds of
5/6 * 5/6 * 5/6 = 25/216;
- it could be 4, and all other drs should be 4 or less, with odds of
4/6 * 4/6 * 4/6 = 64/216;
- and so on until Leader dr = 1 and odds of 1/6*1/6*1/6 = 1/216;
- now we add all these odds multiplied by 1/6 (probability of each
possible Leader dr) for a total of
 1/6 * 395/216 = 30.48% (I was surprised by this rather high number

So the final probability of this result (neglecting the original MC,
which we could evaluate easily
if needed, and Sniper direction, which is almost impossible to determine
in my opinion) is

16.67% * 0.077% * 30.48% = 0.0039%

I feel even luckier now that I know the number :-)

Attacking a Pillbox with a Thrown DC

<pre>Can a squad in the same or adjacent hex as a pillbox throw a DC into the
pillbox in an effort to resolve the attack as a Set DC? My read of B30.31
is no, only units inside a pillbox may throw a DC out, not vice versa.
However the language at the very end of B30.31 "or Placed/Thrown from and
to within" is confusing. If permissable to throw a DC into a pillbox, how
is that resolved - 36fp with minus 3 drm for units inside pillbox, 30fp
with a +2 drm (+3 if in Advancing Fire Phase) for units who threw it?

Rules Question - Intensive Fire

<pre>
The good folks on Game Squad are giving me differing answers so I though I'd try this list.

In plain English:

Suppose a Gun fires during the MPh and does not retain ROF (and is therefore marked with a First Fire counter), and then it fires at an adjacent target during the DFPh vs. with Intensive Fire, does case D apply in addition to case F? Or can it even fire at all? Does the target really have to be adjacent?

Relevant rules:
A8.4 [Final Fire]: "Any such units/weapons that are marked with a First Fire counter may also fire again . . . but as Area Fire"
C.4 "If the firer's status would impose Area Fire Case D applies"
C5 Table: Intensive Fire (... Case B, D, AFPh, stunned, pinned firer are NA).

The table would seem to indicate that you wouldn't be able to fire at all (like you can't fire IF if you are stunned or pinned). Rule A8.4 is really unclear whether it applies to this situation at all (especially in light of A8.41). Regardless, no one seems to be applying Case D in this situation (and most don't even seem to follow the requirement that the target be adjacent).

My apologies if this is the wrong forum, it's just that I've gotten 3 different answers to this.

Thanks, RS

Subject: [Aslml] Dispatches Update and Paper Back Issues left on sale.

Hello to all
my ASL Comrades. We are well into playtesting on Issue #36 which will be the
last Paper Issue and will be ready for the Nor'Easter Tournament in late
March.
As of Issue #37, all future issues will be e-mailed to my subscribers as
pdf.
files. I'll have a New Pricing structure for all future and back issues
after
#36 is
mailed out.
Speaking of
paper Issues, they are going fast and the only Back Issues remaining in
print at this point are: #27, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 &amp; 34. I'm putting them on
sale to get them moved out, sale price of any individual issue (now $3.50
each) or get a bundle of all 7 above for $25.00. Add a 4 Issue subscription
for an extra $10.00.
Any
International subscribers the price for one Issue is $4.00, the 7 issue
bundle is $35, add
$10.00 for a 4 issue subscription. So get them why you can, they will no
longer be available sometime between last paper Issue #36 &amp; first pdf. issue
#37.

We have the
usual 4 scenarios we are working on for #36 and are now looking for Playtest
volunteers to try them out. Anyone who does and submits a AAR/playtest
report will receive a free paper copy and a free pdf. file copy of #36 when
published.
Here are the
actions we are working on:

Assyrian
Ambush: The 2nd in the Battle for Iraq series by Ted Wilcox sees elements of
the Iraqi Independent Mechanized Brigade running the gauntlet through Bd 57
as British trained and equipped Iraqi levies try to stop them from exiting.
All armor vs all infantry in 1941 for a quick playing tourney action.

The Police
Station: Joe Gochinski has another in the Hong Kong battles with action
starting immediately with on board melees at start as the Japanese 38th
Division tries to capture the Police Station, with it's overwatch position
from the Winnipeg Grenadiers.
Reinforced
company side elements on both sides and a strong Canadian defensive position
with fortifications makes for a taught battle until the end. 6.5 turns makes
it just small enough to fit into a tourney time slot or 5 to 6 hour time
frame. Exciting action for sure.

As for
recently published #35, It contains the usual 4 action-packed scenarios:

The
Gin Drinkers Line - Hong Kong 1941 - Nice tourney style offering from
our
own
Joe Gochinski with a reinforced company of Elite and 1st line
Japanese
infantry
tries to wrest the Bd 62 village from the 7th Rajput (Indian)
Regiment.
Plays
fast and bloody, very tense fight over those Huts.

The
Gateway - Hatten, France, January 1945 - Steve Johns brings us the
tourney
style
gem as Panzer Grenadiers and Pioneers, supported by Stugs and a
Flame-Hetzer,
smash
into the 42nd Rainbow Division during Operation Nordwind. With two 57L
ATGs
the
out-manned GIs will do their best to defend Board 1a. Tourney style with
nice
toys.

A
Willingness to Die - Robert Hammond is back with the next in the 6th Panzer
Division
series.
It is day two of Operation Barbarossa and elements of the Russian 48th
Rifle
Division
stand in the path of the German advance at Paislinus, Lithuania. A very
cool
Sniper
SSR that Robert &amp; Tom Morin collaborated on make this a hornets nest
for
the
advancing lancers as they try to control woods/buildings on board 38 along
with
exiting
20 VPs. A nice, innovative design with wrinkles that only Robert seems to
come
up
with. Medium sized action takes around 6 hours to complete.

Les
Homme de Neige - New Dispatches designer Bruce Childs has come up with
a
Big, Brutal melee in the mountain tops near Storvtn, Norway in May 1940. On
Bds
2,
9 &amp; 15 with a couple companies worth of French 1st liners and Elite Ski
troops trying to
clear
the hilltops of dug in German mountain troops. Snowshoes also make a
rare
appearance
in Deep Snow conditions in Alpine style hills. Very cool looking
larger
action
for those not afraid to spending 7+ hours on a scenario.

We
also have a winner in the Article Contest (Congrats Kedge!) who does a
nice
job
looking at Gun Duels. Carl
Nogueira has more
Tactical Tips and I'll have all the
usual
scoop on the regional ASL scene.
As
has been noted in the past, I will be going to strictly pdf. file
format
after

Dispatches Update and Paper Back Issues left on sale.

<pre>Hello to all
my ASL Comrades. We are well into playtesting on Issue #36 which
will be the
last Paper Issue and will be ready for the Nor'Easter Tournament in
late March.
As of Issue #37, all future issues will be e-mailed to my subscribers
as pdf.
files. I'll have a New Pricing structure for all future and back issues
after
#36 is
mailed out.
Speaking of
paper Issues, they are going fast and the only Back Issues
remaining in
print at this point are: #27, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 &amp; 34. I'm putting them
on
sale to get
them moved out, sale price of any individual issue (now $3.50 each)
or get a
bundle of all 7 above for $25.00. Add a 4 Issue subscription for an extra
$10.00.
Any
International subscribers the price for one Issue is $4.00, the 7 issue bundle
is
$35, add
$10.00 for a 4 issue subscription. So get them why you can, they will no
longer
be available
sometime between last paper Issue #36 &amp; first pdf. issue #37.

We have the
usual 4 scenarios we are working on for #36 and are now looking for
Playtest
volunteers to try them out. Anyone who does and submits a AAR/playtest
report will
receive a free paper copy and a free pdf. file copy of #36 when published.
Here are the
actions we are working on:

As for
recently published #35, It contains the usual 4 action-packed scenarios:

The
Gin Drinkers Line - Hong Kong 1941 - Nice tourney style offering from
our
own
Joe Gochinski with a reinforced company of Elite and 1st line
Japanese
infantry
tries to wrest the Bd 62 village from the 7th Rajput (Indian)
Regiment.
Plays
fast and bloody, very tense fight over those Huts.

The
Gateway - Hatten, France, January 1945 - Steve Johns brings us the
tourney
style
gem as Panzer Grenadiers and Pioneers, supported by Stugs and a
Flame-Hetzer,
smash
into the 42nd Rainbow Division during Operation Nordwind. With two 57L
ATGs
the
out-manned GIs will do their best to defend Board 1a. Tourney style with nice
toys.

A
Willingness to Die - Robert Hammond is back with the next in the 6th Panzer
Division

As
has been noted in the past, I will be going to strictly pdf. file
format
after
Issue #36 ships next March. I am no longer re-printing Back Issues
and
have limited numbers of Issues #27, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 &amp; 34
