    <description>Hi

I use Emilda 1.2.1. I need make a clone of the emilda server or emilda
database.
And I need to drain the database to have a empty database to use with
other intention.

Into the emilda configuration I have this values:

Zebra Database: Default
System Path to Zebra Folder:/srv/www/emilda/zebra/
Records Folder:records/
Zebra Configuration File:zebra.cfg

I could make a copy of /srv/www/emilda/ directory, what else I need
copy, and how can I delete all records, books IDs, etc.

Thanks

Hello Everyone!

Now that sourceforge.net offers Subversion, I wonder if there is any
interest in moving to it?

For those unfamiliar with Subversion, there is the excellent book at:

   http://svnbook.red-bean.com/

Personally, I think Subversion is better than CVS. And Sourceforge's
implementation of Subversion has no delay, since there are no
replication hacks to wait on.

And, Sourceforge provides an automated process for converting from CVS.

Thanks,
Dave.

    <title>emildas future a CMS ?</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.education.libraries.emilda.devel/435</link>
<description>so from time to time i am thinking about emilda or its far future resp.

this time i am looking at some cms'es and emilda comes to my mind :
these are quick looks but i like to suggest something which might
support RAD on existing glue
and a look
a) on others doing CMS
b) work regarding libraries therein
might give ideas ...

-------------

we are doing CMS aren't we ? :-)
i was wishing once than more to incorporate my thingies into emilda
gui, so it is natural for me to vote for dummie's approach :-)

-------------

=&gt;&gt;&gt; gaining attention : drupal (www.drupal.org)

uses subset of php for scripting, many modules
(http://drupal.org/project/Modules)
interesting to me were esp.
system requirements : http://drupal.org/node/270

- "book review" (http://drupal.org/node/7880) maybe a basis to get a
feeling for extension to implement modules for full blown book-entity
- "cronplus" which might solve time-related things charging issues
very elegantly
- "css"
- "database administration"
- "filestore2 / fscache" ??? not only for uploads i hope
- "flexinode/flexisearch" ??? not sure ...
- "forms,formproc"
- "form_mail/mail*"
- "front page"
- "glossary / help edit"
- "guestbook"
- "indexpage"
-"interntionalization"
- "ldap integration"
- "live discussion" ?
- "pdfview" (uses fpdf)
-"privatemsg"
-"relationship" (arbitrary node organisation ???)
-"relative link filter"
- "securesite"
-"side content"
-"signup/notify -&gt; subscription" (thus eliminating static
useradministration TOTALLY ?)
-"site menu" (sitemap)
-"taxonomy*" - to be explored if appropriate ...
-"troll" - manage annoying users
-"user import"
-"variable/variables" - ??
-"voting api"
-"wiki"
-"wishlist module"

- "views" - seems key module for presentation of content

i18n translation is native part (http://drupal.org/project/translations)
lots of themes (http://drupal.org/project/Themes)

- "(sql) search" - the KEY to spin off idzebra to db (but also TBD :
investigate mysql native indexing capabilities !)

- "swish-e indexer" - to index files with another great product
swish-e (but limited here to M$) !

--------------------

=&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt; had a look on them but was not thrilled anyway

phpCMS (http://phpcms.de)
mambo (http://mamboforge.net/)
content builder (http://www.content-builder.de/)

--------------------

=&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt; did NOT have a close look at, because has _awful_ critics and
might be overkill and need too much dedicated skills

typo 3 (http://www.typo3.com)

but someone wrote a library-plugin
(http://typo3.org/fileadmin/pdf_manuals/manual-bookdb-10-02-2005_14-07-40.pdf)

--------------------

=&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt; zope-based (http://www.zope.org)

TAL/TALES/METAL are standatds for zope page templates which are
language neutral

PHPTAL (http://phptal.sourceforege.net) php
PETAL(http://search.cpan.org/~jhiver/Petal/lib/Petal.pm) perl

[might be interesting but needs learning curve :]
plone (www.plone.org) a complete CMS imlemented in python with very
good critics and mighty oo

--------------------

BOTTOM LINE :
have a look on http://www.cmsmatrix.org/matrix/cms-matrix?func=search :-)

i entered :

System Requirements

Application Server
Approximate Cost 0
Database mysql
License gpl
Operating System linux
Programming Language php
Root Access
Shell Access
Web Server apache

and got more than 10 hits - so please try yourself

---------------------

please state if i should refrain from such discussion in the future :-)
sincerely wolfgang

    <title>MAB and other record-syntaxes (again sigh)</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.education.libraries.emilda.devel/421</link>
<description>will emilda have scheduled some layer to translate other record-syntaxes
than MARC and/or will there be a shift from MARC-only internal storing
of bibliographic data ?
i would like contribute regarding MAB since this is essential for krauts :-)
(but i fear this could only happen with perl-code and you have committed
to shift to pure php ...)

<title>proposal for directions in data logic</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.education.libraries.emilda.devel/410</link>
<description>before it comes to criticism - 2 things to mention :
- as opposed e.g. to koha emilda is KISS (keep it small and simple - at
least regarding data)
- the idea to delegate complicated things to zebra is amazing but
without expertise the really powerful things (to index virtually any
format and to have the most powerful search) are not accessible

as i stated in some email before i think design was poor regarding the
separation of

1) (nonbibliographic) data affecting one or more items which could differ
2) (nonbibliographic) data which is introduced because the item is
manged within a library
3) (bibliographic) data which cannot differ for items which are
considered identical

---

this arises many problems :

a) the paradigm to have N:1 relation between item &lt;-&gt; marc-record
implies that item data cannot differ if stored in MARC and thus violates 1)
b) i suppose MARC/zebra was considered for 3) but "rapid development
needs" caused 2) to be mixed in
c) the same holds for 3) and 1)

solutions :

I) --&gt; engage zebra in a more "free" way as database

I)a) use it not only as "per-group-of-identical-items" but also as
"per-item-database" :

[ one marc/zebra would use book_control_number as 001, the other would
use book_id as 001 ]
this could allow e.g. different locations, barcodes for identical items
to be stored and indexed in zebra ((-: without the burden to program
sql-search :-))

I)b) use xml or whatever as record-format for "native" internal purposes

II) --&gt; isolate and normalize data retrieved from foreign sources

II)a) isolate EXACTLY all data which is retrieved from external source
in one distinct zebra-db
II)b) every external source is mapped/filtered as appropriate to the
native needs/conventions

i see that every z3950-server will have its own "dialect" and it is
_naive_ to expect a standard exceeding a very low degree.
if i mix up things here in native zebra too managment gets a nightmare
if any refinement has to occurr.

:-O
a typical library needs &lt;10 essential fields.
i do _not_ understand why to make now searches a complex thing (about 30
fields because of the mix of z3950-suppliers which yields to include
more fields to be successful on ALL of them)
i think it is better just to map from every agency just what seems
appropriate to the OWN scheme which is easy and customized on our needs.

:-O
nota bene : the "native" scheme would NOT HAVE to meet ANY STANDARD and
could be implemented with any record-format

:-O
every librarian which has to operate would _OPT_AT_ONCE_ for a "lean"
custom data-interface he/she wants instead of full-blown MARC dragon
with 40+ fields.
ergonomy (human factor) is CRITICAL folks !

---

hope to hear something about this :-)
