I am using XML XE Professional 5.1.0 for our documentation purposes.
We prepare user documents that have to be delivered to multiple clients,
and we often face issue with images that will differ for each client (i.e,
the color, logo and label names). So please let me know how can I handle
the images in the document for delivering multiple clients.

Really enjoying using XML Mind to get to grips with DITA … and generally
remembering to check DITA specs first, as it's clear XML Mind does a good
job of implementing them. Here's a two-part question that seems to fall
between the two, though; I'll ask it in a way that puts XXE first.

   1. does XXE .xhtml output from DITA topics support any sort of
   mouse-over/pop-up, for example to display a definition from a glossary?
   2. if so, which DITA construct do I need to go away and learn about?

Thanks in advance for help on this.

Same Problem exist (naturally) when accessing the numbered headings of the

Thanks a lot

I have checked my file associations, .html is correctly associated with Internet Explorer.
I have deleted my XML text editor from XXE list of helper applications.

Improvement suggestion: Inserting pic files from windowsexplorer

Dear Hussein,
after using and adapting XMLMind for several years now, we still run into one handling sequence that is still bothering us a little.

1. When inserting a pic file via drag & drop from a windows explorer folder, there is always the position source and target screen popping up like this:

2. Since most our pics are stored on a different server than the XML files (and we do not need relative path names and do not want them to be copied anywhere else), we always alter this screen in a way that the upper and lower fields are the same and they are used as a reference:

3. Since I assume that for some/most of the users the presettings you implemented are sufficient/correct, here is my suggestion for improvement:
      Add an option in the preferences of XXE that allows to select whether to insert pics by copying or referencing and if the letter is chosen, just take the path of the target position and do not show the screen above any more when dropping files from the explorer window.

Does this seem sensible for you? Or this there even now a better handling procedure to avoid this copying and pasting procedure?

Best regards

I've been happily porting a document into DITA, doing the bulk of the work
outside XML Mind (because I've been given a special PC for running such a
dangerous application) but finishing off each topic in XML Mind for
validation.

I have the impression that some of the content I've prepared is being
slightly modified: what I specifically notice is that a <shortdesc> which
was a single long line in the external editor seems to be broken up into
several shorter lines once opened in XML Mind. This does no harm to the end
result, of course: but it does mean I can't use grep to pull out all the
complete <shortdesc> elements.

Any tips or comments? I don't think I can get to grips with Xquery in the
time available ;-}

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

we've implemented a copy-as-reference from our web application by
generating the same text generated by XXE on the clipboard for the same
operation (Open a file, select the root node, Copy as reference, open an
ASCII text editor, paste).

If we open XXE 5.4.0, and create a new document or open an existing one,
the paste button is enabled and we can indeed paste the clipboard contents
as a reference.

If we instead open XXE 5.6.0, and create a new document or open an existing
one, the paste button is disabled, we cannot paste the clipboard contents
as a reference. We can though, paste the clipboard content as text (for
example, inside a para, we get the same content we got on the ASCII editor).

Please find below an excerpt of the clipboard contents for one of our
tests. Why is it not working anymore on XXE 5.6.0?

Is the clipboard format documented somewhere?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Alternate row colors in tables

Hello,

Is there any configurational options in Xmlmind for support for
alternate background colors in tables, e.g. first row is white, next
grey, then white etc. for a PDF output?
- or is it a matter of customising the xslt (in tables.xsl?) ?

If it is the latter, can you give any advice on how to do this, and if
possible, where?

Best regards,

Security warning with XXE applet after updating java tojava7u21

Hello,

according to this:

http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/mixed_code.html

there should be a property set on the applet jar manifest to avoid the
rather annoying (popping up every time we close the applet here) 'mixed
code' security popup.

Do you plan to add this to future versions of the applet jar? can we set
this on our current xxe deployed jars somehow, or rebuild them somehow, to
include this property set to see if we can get rid of this dialog from the
JRE?

Thanks in advance!

Edit Referenced Document

Dear M. Shafie,

We seem to experience some problems with the DocBook modular document
support (e.g. "Edit Referenced Document" feature) with XXE 5.6.0 (works
OK with 5.4.1, did not test on 5.5).

Pb.1: The arrow button allowing to move forward within the referenced
document is dimmed and cannot be selected. If we use the contextual menu
on the same element and select "Edit Refenced Document", the button is
undimmed and functions again as expected, however...
Pb2.: The "go backward" arrow button works erratically, sometimes moving
back to the referencing document, sometimes not without obvious reason.
Pb3: When the referenced document is already opened in a different tab,
editing it will sometimes not do anything, that is will switch to the
ad-hoc tab.

We use this feature a lot for our big DocBook module documents and did
not experience any issues of the kind with previous versions of XXE.
Did we miss something ?

Many thanks for your support,
Best regards.

feature requests

Hello,

I have two suggestions for new features I'd like to propose for XXE:

1) I'm working a lot with MathML, and find the expression parser you
added last year to be extremely useful. This allows me to add
mathematical expressions much more efficiently. I'm able to do most of
the editing using the keyboard alone. There is one minor annoyance: once
I have written a math expression and converted it via
<Ctrl><shift><space> to proper MathML, I still need to accept by
clicking on the popup. It would be great if that popup had the keyboard
focus at that point, so hitting <Enter> would be enough. Right now I
need to use the pointer(mouse) for that.

2) I'm working on a technical specification where a meta-model is
written in a separate (DocBook) spec file. I'm editing a spec that
includes many small chunks from the meta-model, using xinclude/xpointer.
Right now copy-by-reference is supported with XXE only if the element
itself has an ID. Would it be possible to also support referencing with
slightly more elaborate xpointers ?
I'm thinking of this use-case: While I select an element in the
reference document, XXE looks for an ID in a parent element, and
constructs an xpath expression from that (e.g.
"id('foo')/relative/path/to/current/element"), which I can then copy and
paste into the target document.
Would that be possible ? I understand the associated risk, as the target
document then depends on the reference document structure, so this may
indeed not be useful for everyone. But for me it's exactly what I need.

Thanks for considering these features !

        Stefan

css combo-box - some values can not be chosen

Hello,

I tried to adapt an existing combo-box within the XML-Mind configuration.

Within the XML-file I have the following structure:
<verweis>
                <artikel>
                               <autor>…</autor>
                               <zeitschrift>…</zeitschrift>
                               <fundstelle>…</fundstelle>
                               <zusatz>…</zusatz>
</artikel>
</verweis>

Within the css-file I want to assign a combo-box to the element “zeitschrift”.

My css-part looks like this:
zeitschrift
{
                content: combo-box(labels, "AFS\A ARD", values, "AFS\A ARD");
}

And the really big problem is (and I really tried lots of things and I really don’t know where the error could be), that the value “ARD” could be chosen, but the value “AFS” not!
I tried to assign the same combo-box to another element:
fundstelle
{
                content: combo-box(labels, "AFS\A ARD", values, "AFS\A ARD");
}
And here it was no problem to select both items!

And I tried to rename the element “zeitschrift” i.e. to “zeitschriften” – and it works … only when the name of the element is “zeitschrift” I get the problems.

Does anybody know what I can do, except renaming the element???

Best regards,
Monika

Problems with header and {{image(URI)}} in Dita to PDF

Dear XMLmind,

After an upgrade to 5.6, setting and image in the header, using the
"Change Document Conversion Parameters" and adding parameter
'header-center' with the value
'file:/C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/XMLmind_XML_Editor_Pro5_6/addon/config/dita/xsl/fo/resources/pure_p_logo_black.gif'
(Selected using the file-selector) in a PDF conversion, the result shows
only the path in the header. See attached screenshot.

I can see in the conf-file that the parameter is set as <cfg:parameter
name="header-center">file:/C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/XMLmind_XML_Editor_Pro5_6/addon/config/dita/xsl/fo/resources/pure_p_logo_black.gif</cfg:parameter>

Is there a bug here or have I missed something important? It seems to
ignore any value inserted.

Note, I don't know if this worked in previous versions as I've started
on a new project.

Strange output

Hello,

my boss wanted me to test DocBook and explore its possibilities. To build DocBook documents i installed the test version oft XMLmind.
The versions i work with are
* XMLmind XML Editor Evaluation Edition 5.5.0
* DocBook 5.0

It is a nice editor that is easily understandable and gives a lot of possibilities. But there is a really strange problem. When I write the document, I see all the wrote staff in the right way, even formulars and code. When i convert this document into HTML or PDF (the problem occures in both cases) words are modified by replaced letters. I also checked, if the trouble is coming from ä,ö,ü,ß, but there is no trouble with these letters.
I am working on mac but the problem also occures on windows.

I have no idea, what is causing these troubles. It would be great if u could help me.

In the attachment there is
* the source-code
* the converted PDF and
* the view in XMLmind.

Best regards
Uinonah Weise
