RSE Extensions...Compare not working

I am using RDp 8.5.1. I have the Softlanding plugin for RSE installed and
   use it's functionality quite regularly.

Today I attempted to compare ( and then apply ) a change I had made on my
test box to the production box. I have a connection defined for each box.

I right clicked on the member on the production box and selected RSE
Extensions->Compare and selected the compare member on test box connection
and library. Open for Edit was also selected.

When I pressed OK the dialog box disappeared but nothing opened. I tried
this a number of times, even changed to Open for Browse and still nothing
   opened.

I did a -clean and nothing opened.

I tried the reverse (opening the test member to compare to the production
member) on the test connection's member. Nothing happened.

I made a copy of the member in the test test library and this time it
   opened.

So, does the compare not work against multiple connections?
If it should work has anyone experienced this before?
Where would I look to see what the problem is?

   Thanks,

   Robert Rogerson

I wonder if anyone has encountered this problem. We have a machine with two iAsps on a single partition and the RDP users work from within either iASP 1 or iASP 2. When we stop and start the debug server (ENDDBGSVR/STRDBGSVR), Service Entry Points can only be set in RDP when the setting user has the same iASP group as the user who started the debug server. Users who try to set an SEP in an RPG program from the other iAsp get an error 'Server: CPF9810 Library ABC cannot be found', where ABC is the name of the library containing the rpg program. Is there a way we can set up the debug server so that is works simultaneously for both iASPS ?

Thanks,

Perhaps I am trying too many new things at once.

We have defined a new master file in DDL. I am writing a simple program
to move the data from the old file to the new file. I got a compile
error of invalid field name. I click on outline (and refreshed) to
review field names and there is no plus sign for the DDL defined file.
There is a plus sign for the DDS defined files and I can see the field
names. But not for the DDL defined file.

I have to use either ops nav or green screen tools to find the field
names. Obviously I am missing something. Is there another way to view
field names?

I am also having trouble seeing what file definition is pulled into the
program. It took me a while to get my library list correct for this new
project . I got errors using files with the same name in the wrong library.

How can I determine within RDI where the file definition is coming
from? Currently, I still print the compiles so I view the spool file to
see what library the file definitions are coming from. There has to be a
way to do this in rdi.

how to block copy

I am really trying to use RDI, but I need to continue to use some of my
old methods. such as fixed format.

I want to do a block copy, such as pasting rows of values into factor one.

I have changed the lpex editor using windows, preferences, lpex, block.

I have been able to select a block and cut it. What I cannot do is paste
into a block copied from somewhere other than RDI.

I have a bunch of statements:

Eval newfield1 = oldfield1
eval newfield2 = oldfield2

and so on for 10 lines.

I can cut a block of 10 oldfields just fine.

Then I go to a green screen and copy 10 names in a column. When I paste
them, the first oldfield is in the correct position, but the next one
gets pasted in column 1 of the following line, which it creates. then a
new line and the 3rd field is in position 1, and so on for 9 lines.
So I get the first line pasted correctly, 9 extra lines inserted with a
field name in columns 1 to 6(which overlays the C and gives form type
error).

If I paste into windows notepad, they paste into a column.

What am I missing ? Do I have to create a rectangle to paste into?

I have tried alt Z and I can get that to work if I copy the block of data
from within RDI. The data I want is not always available within RDI when
I switch between old and new methods.

the CMPPFM cmd in QPDA is not showing V7R1

This is not really a RDp / RDi / WDSc question.
Nor is it a RPG400 listserv question.
But I will post it here, since it may be indicative of how the SEU-driven QPDA library (Programmer Development Aids) is going to be treated by IBM in the future. And this could be another push within our shops for the Rational editors and utilities.

When I run the CMPPFM command on our V7R1 machine, I am seeing in the report header a reference to V6R1, not the normal "V7R1" . . .
In the report file QSYSPRT . . . output from the command and CPP pgm QPDA/ QUECPP1
" IBM COMPARE V6R1M0 080215 " is at the top of the report

But running other reports from QPDA, they show V7R1
Example: WRKOBJPDM and F21 to print: In the printfile QPUOPRTF
" 5770WDS V7R1M0 100416 CROWN3 Programming Development Manager - Object list "

Seeing this raises doubts, and it seems to me to not be a proxy command problem . . .
So were all QPDA objects refreshed by our operations-team during their upgrade to V7R1 . . .
or is this just an instance of how disjointed pieces of PDA - now a frozen legacy product of IBM - will now appear . . .

Can someone do me a favor and please run a CMPPFM on their V7R1 box and see if they get the same result ?

Is there a way to expand a lpex editor filter so that it displays X number of lines above and below the search results.
What I'm after is instead off clicking on the + sign to display the lines below the result, is an option to display x lines above and below the search results.
This will enable me to quickly determine how the search result is being used.

Monthly posting of the guidelines for participation in the Websphere
Development Studio Client and Rational Developer for i mailing list.

Keep to the subject. The topic of the list is IBM's Rational Developer
for Power Systems, Rational Developer for i, and Websphere Development
Studio Client. This includes all aspects of RDp / RDi / WDSCi.
Including, but not limited to: RSE, LPEX, Compiling, Verification,
and CODE/400.

NOTE: EGL, Java, and Web development topics are better served in
the lists specific to those topics.

Limited discussion of third party plug-in's is also allowed. It is,
however, recommend that questions about third party (non-IBM), non-open
source, plug-in's be directed to the vendor's technical support group.

Please be aware ... a number of IBM employees monitor this mailing list
and will offer help when possible. Please keep in mind that the IBM'ers
participate in this list on their spare time and so may not be able to
respond promptly if at all.

When starting a new discussion thread, *PLEASE* try to avoid replying to
an existing message to get the correct email address. When you reply to
an existing message, most email clients and the list archiving software
think that the new thread is part of the old thread, and will display it
as such.

When quoting messages, do not quote the entire message. Just quote the
parts that are needed to make the appropriate references.

Flames are absolutely prohibited. If you disagree with someone, feel
free to argue the facts, but no personal attacks will be tolerated.

The official language of the Midrange Systems Mailing List is English.

Do not post personal messages. Please use direct E-Mail. This list is
international in scope and personal messages just end up costing money.

While the participants of this list are happy to answer questions and
help solve problems, it is greatly appreciated if you do some of your
own research beforehand. Before posting a question for the first time,
please take a moment to review Eric Raymonds excellent FAQ "How to Ask
Questions the Smart Way" (http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html).

Advertising products, repeated postings, etc, are strictly prohibited.
Also, if you have a solution that will specificly help another
participant, feel free to tell that person. When you do, ensure that
your post is relevant and timely. And finally, if you are a vendor,
please identify yourself as such... do not try to pass yourself off
as a user of your own products (even if you are).

PLEASE NOTE: When posting to the list, any personally identifying
information in your message will be included in the list. Email
addresses, however, are masked when being formatted for the list
archives. If you include a standard signature in all messages, consider
using the internet standard for signature separator (as defined in RFC
3676, http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3676) of '-- ' (that's dash dash
space). The list archiving software will automatically stop including
the message when it encounters the marker.

PLEASE do not report list messages to your mail providers abuse / spam
department. This results in a black mark against midrange.com and,
depending on the mail provider's policies, can cause mail delivery
delays for everyone who uses both midrange.com with that mail provider.
midrange.com does treat abuse reports very seriously and acts upon them
immediately. When abuse reports are received, and the reporting person
can be identified, they will be removed from all lists immediately ...
and then a follow-up email will be sent.

If you wish to be unsubscribed from a list and cannot do so through the

a different file tab to look at. I don't even have to "save" anything. I
can be locked out for 5 minutes while RDP shows "expanding filter" and
windows shows it as "not "responding". It eventually does respond.
Anyone have any suggestions as to a fix or workaround? (RDP 8.3 and 8.5)

I've set the LPEX editor as the default.

Seems that every couple of characters I type causes an hourglass for 30-60 seconds at a time. Very hard to get anything done that way. In all other aspects, RDP seems to behave normally.

I notice this primarily when typing in the functions section of the DDS spec (column 45 and beyond).

I thought perhaps it was updating the outline view or something. But the DDS parser doesn't seem to have the checkbox to disable the real-time updating that the RPG parser does.

Any ideas?

Hi Dan,

You should be able to correct your order. The floating license is more
expensive than an authorized user license. It makes sense in a large shop
where you might have different people reusing the same license at different
times.
Just get a hold of your sales rep to correct the order. I believe the
sales rep will do a credit and then place a new order for authorized user
using the correct part number (D0C5FLL ). The order will then flow to the
License key center where you can download the activation kit (license key).

The customer will need to contact their sales rep to help them to correct
the order. I believe the sales rep will do a credit and then place a new
order for authorized user using the correct part number (D0C5FLL ). The
order will then flow to the License key center where the customer can
download the activation kit.

Hi,

After using wdsc for a few years, I decided to upgrade to rdp. I bought a
single user license on passport advantage.
Then I went to get the key on rational license key center, it says I
bought a floating lic instead.
It asks for license server info. I really don't want to install the
server.
Do I have to get IBM to change the lic changed or can I just install the
floating lic.

thanks

RDp 8.5, RSE Extension & Win7

I've been using RDp 8.5 on my old XP machine since shortly after it was released. The RSE Extension from SoftLanding went on without a hitch, and all was well.

I now have a new Win7 PC, and I just can't get the RSE Extension to work. I loaded RDp on the new machine, restored my workspace and went about installing all my add-ins. I ran the RSE exe (rse_extensions_75.exe) and it completed with only a single anomaly. The screen where you're supposed to pick your RDp installation(s) had only a single checkbox with no text.

I'm sure there are other people using this on Win7, I'm just not sure where my install went wrong. Any ideas?

Compiling with the wrong connection's properties.

Hi,

Sorry, this is a long one, but it shows an error in RDP v8.5.1 that might affect several of you. The same error may be in earlier versions as well, but I haven't got any earlier versions to test with.

I have two IBM i connections setup in RSE connecting to the same server. The idea is that they have different library lists so that I can open a source member with one connection and it will compile with that connection's library list and into the correct object library (PGMLIB - not the same as SRCLIB in this 'shop). Each connection has a different PGMLIB set in the properties.

Yesterday I was helping a colleague with a change I'd made ages ago and I opened a source member (using CTRL-ALT-A) using the "dev" connection, but when I compiled it I discovered that it used the "test" connection's PGMLIB (so I basically overwrote the test program). Normally this works fine, but this is probably the first time that I have opened the same source member from two different connections at the same time. Before you ask, I closed all source members, opened the source member from the "dev" connection only and it still compiled into the PGMLIB for the "test" connection. Also, the erroneous PGMLIB used in the compile was *not* the default PGMLIB set in the windows|preferences screen (remote systems|IBM i|command execution).

When I shut RDP (v8.5.1) down and restarted it, the correct PGMLIB was used in all further compiles until I opened two versions of the same source in two different connections again.

I can reproduce this problem every time. (assuming your compile commands use the PGM(&O/&N) SRCFILE(&L/&F) SRCMBR(&N) compile options and you have a different object library set in each connection.)
0) Start RDP.
1) Open a development source member using one connection (i.e. "dev")
2) Open the test version of the same source member using the other connection
3) "Accidentally" compile (w/ prompt) the test source and cancel the compile. (You'll see the "test" PGMLIB listed in the prompt).
4) Try to compile (w/ prompt) the development source and you'll see the PGMLIB is set to the "test" connection's PGMLIB.

At a guess I would say that once a compile is attempted, the PGMLIB for all further compiles will never change whether it is the correct one or not.

The compile *with* prompt is not necessary, but just highlights the issue while enabling you to cancel the compile. I did it with the compile without prompt, and it took me a good few minutes to realise I had compiled over the test version and caused the testers to suddenly get lots of level checks. If you go through with the compile, the correct library list is used but the PGMLIB is wrong. If you haven't prompted the compile you have no idea what has happened until someone screams at you.

-Paul.

P.S. I've created a PMR for this. The "description" field on the PMR is really annoying! It completely ignores all CR/LF or <BR /> and makes the text really hard to read... oh well, I hope I entered it correctly anyway.

Hi,

If you use Eclipse for Java, and double-click a variable, all occurrences of that variable are highlighted. As do many other IDE, like Visual Studio. And also my favorite text editor: Notepad++. <Joy Joy>

I wonder why LPEX cannot duplicate this behavior. After all of the source is downloaded to the local PC anyway.

Just thought I would ask...

This is definitely not a "MUST HAVE", just one of those things that would "nice"...
<grin>

Just wondering... No Biggie!

RDP 8.0.3 abrupt close

Hoping this helps the RDP team improve their great product, I have a 5250 screen
program that sometimes causes RDP to close abruptly.

Some time past I worked with the team on a similar problem and they wanted me
to try to identify some detail about the program code that might contribute to the
abrupt close problem, but I was no help then.

This program and display file combination are maybe a better candidate because
Source Verify consistently reports RNF7701 for two data structures that are used
to update a subfile:

D s1DS DS Likerec(S1FMT:*ALL)
D s1DS# DS Likerec(S1FMT:*ALL)

C Update S1FMT s1DS#
C S1< at > CHAIN S1FMT s1DS

This program compiles without error and the update and chain operations work as
intended, so I think this must be a problem in LPEX Editor

I've been using WDSC for a number of years at V5R3 and it's superb. Really
useful is the debugging capabilities, which makes testing code so much
easier.

We've now moved to V7R1 but I'm told there's no budget to upgrade WDSC. And
anyway it works on V7R1, which it does quite happily. But to my dismay I
can't get the debugger working.

I start the debug service on the system 'I' but when I take the option to
debug, nothing happens. Nothing appears in the “service entry points" tag.

Does anyone know of debug works for WDSC on V7R1?
