Plone 3: Overriding default javascript files

I am using Plone 3 and currently trying to override one of the default
javascript files i.e. table_sorter.js.

Under the browser directory of my product, I created a directory
"javascripts" (just to keep things organized), then registered the directory
as a ressource, in configure.zcml:

<browser:resourceDirectory
    name="myproduct.javascripts"
    directory="javascripts"
    layer=".interfaces.IThemeSpecific" />
Where "myproduct" is self explanatory. Then in jssregistry.xml, I registered
and ordered the javascript files:

<javascript id="++resource++myproduct.javascripts/table_sorter.js"
    enabled="True"
    cookable="False"
    inline="False"
    insert-after="jquery.js" />
Where table_sorter.js is the name of the javascript file that I need to
override.

The reason I need to override the file is because the default has no way of
telling the user whether a table is sortable or not until it is clicked on.
I need to include icons on the table header by default.

I have followed the above steps but it does not seem to work. I have no idea
where I'm going wrong. Any help will be highly appreciated.

P.S. I've also heard that I may need to override the file in the skins
folder, I have no idea on how to accomplish this.

Alex was investigating better widgets that plone could integrate the the
conference.

If anyone wants to check out some of the initial findings, take a look at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ala3ew8gFf2-dEU4TmtoLUJPbUJIR2dzdDdQaUtEZUE

I have created https://github.com/plone/plone.widgets and
https://github.com/plone/plone.app.widgets to kick some of this off.

Initially, all it does is add a G+ like tag widget to plone using the
chosen js widget(http://harvesthq.github.com/chosen/).

Immediate plans are:

- use chosen for user selection widget(contributors, editors)
- use chosen for related item(with a file tree browser pop-up)
- replace all in and out widgets with it

Just thought I'd let everyone here know what is going on and hopefully get
some more ideas and help.

Hi,
Sorry for the newbie question.
I am customizing a Plone 4.1 install (on Ubuntu 11.04) - I am almost
finished however I cannot change the folder icon?
I have replaced the folder_icon.png with my custom one by clicking customize
on Plone/portal skins/plone_images/folder_icon.png

The custom image is showing in the Plone/portal_skins/custom folder.

When I refresh my webpage the original folder still shows? I have restarted
the instance, rebooted the server & flushed my browser cache with no joy!

Could anyone point me in the correct direction?

Many thanks,
Tony

UI request: Plone theme mapper (ala 'Banjo')

Hi folks,

As you may know, there's a PLIP for Plone 4.3 about including a more
advanced editing environment for themes inside the Diazo control panel. We
now have:

- A filemanager and general text editor
- A Banjo-like theme mapper that shows a split view of rules, preview theme
as applied to the content, raw content and raw theme, including a rule
builder wizard and source preview

These are starting to become quite functional and powerful, but they are not
really integrated. I've added a crude link from the file manager to mapper
for testing purposes, but what I'm wondering is how we can expose these two
views as one, or as something that integrates more cleanly.

Is anyone willing to take a look? If so, check out the branch from github:

$ git clone -b optilude-ace git-9UaJU3cA/F/QT0dZR+AlfA< at >public.gmane.org:plone/plone.app.theming.git

Then build out as normal:

$ python2.6 bootstrap.py
$ bin/buildout

Install the "Diazo theme support" extension profile and then go to the
control panel. From here, create a new theme based on the template (which is
very basic for now!). You should then be taken to the file manager. Click
"open theme mapper" to open the theme mapper view (there's no way back yet).

UI request - integrating p.a.theming editor and filemanager

Hi UI folks,

As previously discussed, I've been working on improving the p.a.theming
experience through in-Plone tools for editing theme HTML, CSS and rules.xml
files.

Most of the back end and JavaScript is now working, but I'm struggling to
decide how to integrate two aspects of the UI:

1) A file manager

This is the newest component. It looks like this. The file manager works as
you'd expect, and you can upload files, create new ones, delete, rename and
so on (though there's no copy/paste/move support at this stage).

[image: Screen Shot 2011-09-11 at 22.45.36.png]

2) An editor based on the Cloud9 ACE editor.

[image: Screen Shot 2011-09-11 at 22.46.29.png]

In the editor, you can choose a file to edit and it is loaded from the
server when first requested. Changes are mirrored to a hidden <textarea />
per file, all of which are submitted and saved when you click "Save".

Currently, these two views are separate. When you edit an in-ZODB theme in
the p.a.theming control panel on the "Manage themes" tab, you have two
options: "Edit" and "Manage files".

I think it would be more natural if these two were part of the same screen,
but I'm struggling to understand exactly how that would work visually. I'd
like to retain the idea that you can work on multiple files and that you can
save all files at once or revert your changes before saving.

Is anyone able to suggest / mock up a way to do this?

If you want to test it, simply check out this branch and build (if you have
an existing checkout, be sure to update extras/plone.resource as well as the
src/ directory):

   https://svn.plone.org/svn/plone/plone.app.theming/branches/optilude-ace

Cheers,
Martin

Issues discussed

Because we were a small team at this weeks meeting, we had a very nice
short meeting of ten minutes. Both Mark and Sisi had not done any plip
reviews yet, Mark because of an earth quake, and Sisi because of lack
of time. Mark's excuse was way better.

Mark indicated that he had time this coming week to work on a plip
review, and since there are two plips that need reviewing still for
the upcoming release, Mark and Sisi have split them.

Sisi is going to continue with #9352, improved search results:
http://dev.plone.org/plone/ticket/9352

Mark is going to work on #11880, plone.app.themeing:
http://dev.plone.org/plone/ticket/11880

Obviously if anyone from the team also wants to review, please do so!

We decided since attendance has been slim the last couple of meetings
that we should probably go to our intended fortnightly meetings,
rather than having another meeting next week again (If there are plip
reviews before next wednesday we can always schedule in an extra
meeting. Mark can also schedule calliflower calls if needed).

So the next meeting will be the 7th of September.

Notes from all meetings are here:

Hi,

Was about to fix the bug Sisi found in the new search. When one starts typing something in the search field, gets the live search results and then clicks 'Advanced Search' link. In this case one gets the empty search page as if he didn't search for anything in the search field.

After some thoughts I am not sure why do we need that 'Advanced Search' link at all. It gives the same page as the main 'Search' button since we have ditched the advanced search form — there is only one search form now. So, I am about to just ditch that link from the live search response if nobody on the UI team objects.

Sisi set up EtherPad for the UI team meetings. The team member should have got the invitations. We could start using it from the next week for taking meeting notes during the meeting or sharing files or something else productive we can come up with..

PLIPs reviews
------------------
The remaining PLIP 9352 should be fixed (by Denys) and reviewed (by Sisi).
Review of #10902 has been updated based on the previous meeting's conclusions. The notification has been sent to the FWT and to the PLIP's ticket. The PLIP's integrator didn't yet have time to sort out the review and act.

Plone Accessibility Tune-Up
--------------------------------------
Friday, August 19 there is going to be a Plone Tune-Up, targeting the accessibility of Plone. It would be great if UI team member could be at least be preset on IRC (#plone-tuneup). If the member could participate for real by doing something or helping others it would be even better.

Next meeting
==========

Wednesday, August 24th, 21:30 CET. Eric sends the calliflower invitations to the team.

Thank you for the meeting.

The meeting notes

Hello,

I have decided to send these short notes from our yesterday's meeting as a summary of what has been discussed. Geir (as he said during the meeting), if he has time to do more extensive report, or anybody else from the team is encouraged to add/edit if this report is missing anything.

Participants
----------------
Eric, Mark, Geir, Sisi, Denys.
Rob, Nathan and Alex were absent.

The purpose of the meeting
-------------------------------------
During the previous meeting it has been agreed that the UI team should concentrate on the PLIP reviews that got into Plone 4.2 core before the final release.
It has been suggested for the team members to check the merged PLIPs and have some opinions on them before this meeting. Google spreadsheet with the merged PLIPs has been created:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApVakPWXzRG6dGtKX1VWbkY3RUtOQ0VKZ3JfMDlSNEE&hl=en_US#gid=0
Turned out that only 2 PLIPs really need UI team involvement:
- Improved Search Results
- New Collections

Denys reviewed the 'New Collections' PLIP, added the review in .txt format to 4.2 buildout and notified the PLIP owners by the comment in the PLIP itself.
Sisi, checked the review and had some comments, discussed during the meeting.

'Improved Search Results' PLIP has not been reviewed but has been developed and integrated by Denys. Sisi volunteered for the review (by the next meeting?). Found one bug during the meeting that Denys volunteered to fix :)

Decisions made during the meeting
------------------------------------------------
1. General process decisions:
- The outcome of the UI team's review process is the collective review, not individual reviews as it is in the Framework Team.
- The UI team still makes reviews of the PLIPs as individuals though, but according to the process, defined below.
- Once a PLIP is reviewed by a UI team member, the reviewer sends a notification to the UI team mailing list. Discussion of the PLIP/review is happening in the mailing list prior to the meeting.
- The team makes the decision on a PLIP during a meeting based on the previous discussions happened in the mailing list.

2. Actionable decisions on the 'New Collections' PLIP:
- We convert the Denys' review of the 'New Collections' PLIP into a collective UI team review with additional notes about 'Text' block of the search criteria selector
- During the meeting we found one bug in how the selector behaves. Should be noted in the review as well
- Additional comment about making the widgets, used by the fields, to look more "integrated" into Plone. At the moment they look like merged from some other site.
- After the review is converted into the collective UI team's one, the note to both PLIP and the Framework team should be sent.

3. Actionable decisions on the 'Improved Search Results' PLIP:
- Sisi makes the review of the PLIP. Other team members are free to do so as well.

4. Next meeting and long-term planing for the meetings
- Next meeting is planed for the Wednesday, August 17th, 21:30 CET with the plan to have the next one in a week (Wednesday, August 24th, 21:30).
- After the 4.2 PLIPs are reviewed we switch to "once in two weeks" or "once a month" pattern.

Next meeting
------------------
Wednesday, August 17th, 21:30 CET. Eric sends the calliflower invitations to the team.

Thank you for the meeting.

Next UI team meeting

Hi,

I have created the spreadsheet

https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApVakPWXzRG6dGtKX1VWbkY3RUtOQ0VKZ3JfMDlSNEE#gid=0

It's a simplified copy of the one used by the FWT. I assume all in the UI team should have edit access to it by now. Though I don't have Mark's email, so he didn't get one. Mark, please, if you need the edit access to the spreadsheet, feel free to poke me. If anybody has problems with editing the document, send me your gmail's account email so that I could give the edit rights to it. In the related stuff — should we just make it publicly editable instead?

Concerning the next call. From what I can see in the Doodle — http://doodle.com/es7tdg7fdymdbnxu, even though some people still didn't put their plans in it (Alexander, Sisi and Mark, please do so. Geir is on the vacation, so will not be able to attend, I assume) seems like this Friday, August 5th at 12:00-16:00 CET or 21:30 CET is the time when most of the people (at least for now) can make it. I would like to urge those who didn't put their preferred time slots in the doodle to do so, as soon as possible.

As a reminder — before the call we should at least check the PLIPs that made it into 4.2 (check the spreadsheet) to know what we are talking about. If you feel like reviewing any PLIP right away (that would be great), feel free to put your name into the 'UI Team reviewer' column of the spreadsheet. I don't think we need as extensive reviews as FWT has though. Since UI team has only advisory status at the moment, I think it should be sufficient to just make a list of notes with current/potential issues and, if possible, solutions to those. From what I can see, all of the tickets might benefit from the UI team review except:
- #11880 (doesn't ship with Plone yet?)
- #11308 (has nothing for the UI team)
Not sure about #11774.

I suggest we work with the plone 4.2 buildout (https://svn.plone.org/svn/plone/buildouts/plone-coredev/branches/4.2). Once we have anything to put into our review, we create a PLIP_NUMBER-uireview-YOUR_NAME.txt file in plips/ folder of the buildout. So, we have as close routine to FWT as possible, but with less bureaucracy in terms of compiling the review report :)

Comments on anything above are very much welcome.

Hi,

As agreed, I have set up 2 doodles. One

http://www.doodle.com/es7tdg7fdymdbnxu

for the next meeting. I have included 2 upcoming weeks for more flexibility.
Another one

This one has only the days only for now for simplicity. Then we will figure out the time that works best.

Improving CMSUI toolbar w/metadata + edit bar +notifications

I've done a pass at improving the grouping and display of the toolbar and
related stuff, and I'm starting to get pretty happy with it. Did this as an
HTML prototype, so I'm aware that not everything lines up pixel-perfect, but
should be a decent representation. The goal was to avoid the collapse/expand
all the time, and surface relevant information as part of the UI.

As a reminder, here's current CMSUI:

[image: Screen%20shot%202011-07-17%20at%2023.13.08.png]

I moved the global actions to the site bar, added metadata panel on the
right, notification bar on the bottom, and tightened up the space usage a
bit (although we probably want to add a few more pixels). I also added more
icons to the item=specific bar see how it scales:

[image: Screen%20shot%202011-07-17%20at%2023.08.58.png]

With the visual editor / Deco tile UI, it could look something like this
(again, don't read too much into the implementation of the buttons):

[image: Screen%20shot%202011-07-17%20at%2023.10.10.png]

…and as a final experiment, here's how it could look with a single-line UI —
didn't add all the icons, but you get the point:

[image: Screen%20shot%202011-07-17%20at%2021.56.19.png]

Feedback welcome. :)
