    <description>Periodically, new channels show up in the Schedules Direct data.

The default behavior is for tv_grab_na_dd to display a warning.

There has always been a "--auto-config=add|ignore" to display the
warning once and automatically update the config file.

To help with "baseline" compatibility, I've added the "auto-config"
option to the config file and questions in the --configure mode. If you
choose to neither add or ignore new channels, the old behavior is followed.

A previous version's config file will continue to work without any problem.

I've fixed this in CVS by adding the line

$ua-&gt;env_proxy;

just before 'return $ua' in initialise_proxy().

Confirmed. It's forgetting to call $ua-&gt;env_proxy.

Hi,

Ive got the grabber running ok here, except that its taking the wrong
id for some channels. For example, the grabber downloads the right data for
FX channel (wich shows up in the tv_grab_net.conf as
054.304.14.1.nettv.globo.com) but now beyondTV shows the image of Disney
Channel on channel 54! Same for Boomerang (channel 57 shows no image).
Looks like the codes at Net are different of that on the grabber.

No. The file test.conf is older. Only the script have been updated.

Congratulations, b4max!

Your changes in script works so fine. My test runs successuly.

Commit the changes and update the grabber.

I have a suggestion for brazilian community to reactivate the default
grabber (tv_grab_br). If we create a wiki site (like wikipedia) for source
of new grabber.

I'll wait for answer.

The validation still fails for tv_grab_br_net. Is the test.conf in CVS
correct?

It seems strange that you cannot close the bug. You have Technician
permissions for the bug tracker, which should be enough. Could you try
again?

The reason of this problem is the webpage where the script gets the
information of cities. The script searches a form, that now not exist in
the page, because the scructure was changed for a mechanism in ajax and
server-side scripts that gets the location in according with ip address of
workstation client. It's necessary change the script for find another way
for search the cities.

It seems NET has changed their site. The old city-selectlist is gone. They
now have some javascript to deal with whatever city you enter. If you have
an old config it should still work. Only if you're starting from scratch
you'll run into this problem.

Since I'm currently traveling it will probably take some time to adapt
this.
Sorry for the inconvenience

Could you try
again?

Should the nightly test run without any errors somebody please close this
ticket (I don't seem to have permission to do so)

sorry for the long delay

I have: This is tv_grab_na_icons.in version 1.13, 2008/08/10 02:28:24

That patch was released after 0.5.52, so you can run

Summary: XMLTV.pm incorrectly sets timezone

Initial Comment:
XMLTV.pm executes ``Date::Manip::Date_Init("TZ=UTC")'', thus overriding timezone detection and forcing UTC. As per the Date::Manip documentation, this should be set to the *local* timezone.

In general, it renders Date::Manip useless for timezone-related processing
in any code utilizing XMLTV.pm. In particular, I wanted to modify
`tv_split' to optionally convert start/stop times to localtime, so that
splitting into per-day listings makes sense. Since `Date_TimeZone()'
returns the incorrect value, some hack is required to work out the real
timezone.

Of course it is simpler and more efficient to set TZ=UTC to handle
UTC-ness of times without an explicit timezone, but it may not be the best
solution.

In the case of most XMLTV applications, it's much better to do all our
processing in UTC and let the final application convert to local time on
display. This avoids many DST issues and allows combining data from
multiple timezones.

Can you give an example of where this causes a problem?

Robert

Summary: tv_split should account for time zone

Initial Comment:
I download XML files with a time zone offset, so the times specified in the file are locally correct, and do not have to be changed by my viewer.
So the program
start="20070108183000 -0600" stop="20070108190000 -0600"
starts at 6:30 PM local time.

However, after using "tv_split --output %j.xml", the program above is in the file for Jan. 9 (009.xml) even though it is airing (locally) on Jan. 8 (008.xml).

tv_split is apparently internally adding the time zone offset back in, so the example program above is represented as starting at 20070109003000 (which is on the next day).

I changed the timezone in tv_grab_na_dd.conf to -0000, but this had no effect on the operation of tv_split; "Timezone is -0600" is still printed to the console.

If I download listings in UTC, the practical result is the same. The times in the daily files appear to be all from the same day, but they are all locally airing 6 hours earlier.

Today's daily file, then, contains all shows from 1800 last night through 1800 tonight: Not exactly a useful daily file.

"Timezone is -0600" written by the exe wrapper if the TZ enviornment
variable is not set. The only time TZ is used by _na_dd is to default
timezone in --configure mode.

So if you edited tv_grab_na_dd.conf to -0000, the output XML should have
UTC times.

The problem really seems to be that when %j is computed, it seems to
always use UTC. If you specify %d it uses local time %d it works, but %j
does not.

I'll investigate further.

Summary: Atomic config file update

Initial Comment:
When you run most grabbers with --configure and abort
halfway through, the old config is lost and an empty
file is written (which then causes the grabber to give
an error when next run). It would be better to delay
writing the new config file till the end. This could
be done quite easily with IO::AtomicFile.

Summary: Flaw in the Supplement model

Initial Comment:
I've marked this against tv_grab_uk_rt but in reality it affects all grabbers using the supplement stuff.

Recently the format of channel_ids files were updated for tv_grab_uk_rt breaking all older grabber versions. These grabbers could have continued to work using a cached version of the channel_ids but the new ids file was forced upon them by the supplement module. (Lost recordings, very unhappy family).

I'm proposing that supplement is changed before the release of the next version of xmltv so that supplement files are versioned. It might mean maintainers have a little extra work (maintaining two or more channel_ids etc) but that the chances of breaking older installs is reduced.

Let me apologise for your lost recordings. Before 0.5.50 was released, I
deliberately updated the tv_grab_uk_rt grabber so that it would not fail if
extra fields were added to the channel_ids file, which I have since done to
support timeshifted and part-time channels. However, at that time I did not
add code to gracefully work around duplicated Radio Times IDs, which the
new channel support requires.

When I added support for these two new channel types into the current CVS
version of the grabber and updated the supplement version of channel_ids, I
did not re-order the list of channels in channel_ids. This caused the
0.5.50 release (the only release to date that uses supplement.xmltv.org) to
fail if a requested channel also had a new timeshifted or part-time channel
associated with it.

I have since reordered the channel_ids file so that the current 0.5.50
release should continue to work properly. Records for channels that the
grabber does not know how to handle are overwritten with 'good' channel
settings during configuration and grabbing, and should continue to allow
tv_grab_uk_rt to work exactly as before. There will be some warnings to
STDERR about unsupported/duplicated channels/IDs, but this should not stop
the grabber from working.

Setting the XMLTV_SUPPLEMENT environment variable to point to the local
installed/source channel_ids file (for example 'export
XMLTV_SUPPLEMENT=/usr/src/xmltv/blib/share/') was discussed on the mailing
list when these problems were reported. This allows the grabber to handle a
bad or missing supplement file, but should not be required since the
reordering of the channel entries in channel_ids.

Please let me know if you are still experiencing problems using the Bug
Tracker or xmltv-users list.

actually), the grabber should be able to deal with the old format, at least
for a while.

If that can't happen, maybe the grabber can detect the new format and use
the last known good file.

Summary: How is the date/time written ?

Initial Comment:
In the xmltv files, I have seen these formats being used
for the date/time:
20050310220000 +0100
20050318060000 UTC
20050111113000 CET

My timezone is GMT +01 hour.

Are the dates written down in GMT time or otherwise?
i.e. is  20050310220000 in GMT.

Best Regards
Kevin.

It's over 3 years since Ed's last update on this ticket, and a fair amount
has changed.

Are there any grabbers currently not outputting a (UTC-offset?) numerical
timezone?

Actually I think this is a valid bug report. We should use
numeric timezones everywhere (previously agreed on mailing
list IIRC). I'll fix the grabbers that don't.

Hi its Kevin again.
Thanks nielm for the explanation.
However I fully agree with what rmeden said. I find it a little
misleading having different "standards". As I see it xml is a
way of transferring different data between databases. This
means that when you build up a database you will not see a
pattern, as it should be. You are going to put more effort at a
later stage i.e. on the program/user reading the data. This
burden should occur at an earlier as I see it. When I will
learn perl, I'll see how easy it is :)

Regards and Thanks
Kevin.

actually, Idealy the grabbers should use UTC and let the end
application convert to local time.

This allows dealing with Daylight Savings Time and
consistancy between grabbers. It's also in the definition
of the new DTD (if we ever get there)

The bunch of numbers is the date in
YYYYMMDDhhmmss format, which you probably figured out :)

The bit after the date is the timezone that that date is using,
which can be numeric relative to GMT/UTC (eg +0100 ==
GMT+1hour; -0700=GMT-7hours) or a timezone name.

In the above examples,
20050310220000 +0100 == 22:00 GMT+1 == 21:00 GMT
20050318060000 UTC == 06:00 GMT
20050111113000 CET == 11:30 CET == 10:30 GMT

Ideally the grabber should consistantly use the local timezone
for the country/region being grabbed (eg _uk_rt uses GMT/
BST; _nl or _fr uses CE(S)T etc)

Summary: tv_cat encoding!

Initial Comment:
Hi,

Problem:
Merge two "xmltv_data".xml (output) files and they have
diffrent encoding using tv_cat argument.

Error message:
swedb_new_data.xml: this file's encoding iso-8859-1
differs from others' ISO-8859-1 - aborting

I try to merge output from: tv_grab_swedb and
tv_grab_fi

I understand the problem.. and that it can be hard to
solve when the encoding is UTF-8 and ISO-8859-1..

But in this case: a typeo?
iso-8859-1 should be the same as ISO-8859-1 ??!

Cheers

I also experienced this problem. I am not experienced with xmltv, but I
messed around a little in tv_grab_no.conf, and found out that the grabber
worked when I commented out some channels. At first, it seemed to return
error when channel number had 3 digits, but then it turned out to error
also for channel numbers starting from 90. Don't know if this information
is helpful at all, this is how it turned out for me, anyway.

Summary: download-path with // in grab_nl_wolf

Initial Comment:
[xmltv-0.5.38-win32]
[OS:XP sp2]

When I want to download a tv-listing from WOLF (tv_grab_nl_wolf), I get following details:

Output:
Timezone is GMT
downloading listings: http://wolf.xs4all.nl/xmltv//tv-20050217.xml: could not fetch http://wolf.xs4all.nl/xmltv//tv-20050217.xml, aborting
, exiting

Fault:
'//' in '...xmltv//tv-...'

Possible Answer:
could it be that the error is within 'tv_grab_nl_wolf' at:
my $URL_DIR = '/xmltv/';
where trailing '/' is superfluous?

And can these files (tv_grab_...) be externalised from the XMLTV.exe?

bye and thanks in advance,
TM from U in NL

Here I am again: Request to re-open incident 1124798.

Indeed it worked... but it doesnt now!

However I think I found the fault:
I disected the tv_grab_nl_wolf file using lotsa inserted warning messages
to trace the variables and found the fault.
I corrected it in Cygwin in tv_grab_nl_wolf, made the makefile with perl,
made de install with Cygwin's make.

And now it works nicely.

where does the superfluous '/' creep in?
in the file tv_grab_nl_wolf
about line nr: 131
in block:
    my %by_date;
    foreach (&lt; at &gt;urls) {
s/^$URL_DIR//;
if (/^tv-(\d{8})\./) {
    # We know that the same date can occur twice, we just take
    # the first occurrence.
    #
    $by_date{$1} = "$url_base/$_"
          unless defined $by_date{$1};
    warn "final URL [$url_base][$1]\n";
}
    }
    return %by_date;
}

to be exact:
$by_date{$1} = "$url_base/$_"
is wrong, because:
my $URL_HOST = 'http://wolf.xs4all.nl';
my $URL_DIR = '/xmltv/';
my $url_base = "$URL_HOST$URL_DIR";

so $url_base is already ending on a '/', thus concatenating $url_base with
the filename $_
should be: "$url_base$_"

it works when I compile it in Cygwin, but I'd like to have a (ahum)
Dos-version...

can anybody please correct the mentioned '/' typo and create a Dos-version
for all windows users in the world, please?

TIA
TM in U from NL

ps
why did it work for a moment... I guess sometimes URL addresses with
double '/' are cleanup by some parsers or something, but not always or for
everybody.

It works for me though, even with the extra /
(Using xmltv 0.5.38 on Windows XP SP2). Normally I use
tv_grab_nl which is a lot slower, but also a lot completer.
You get a more detailed xml-file (actors, commentators,
repeat-information, rating-system Kijkwijzer, etc.).

you can just download the source distribution and run it
using perl.

You'll need Perl and all the modules used by that APP.
XMLTV.EXE is just packaged for convieience, as installing
packages on windows can be difficult.

building an EXE requires a commerial product (PerlApp from
activestate).

You can set up windows to run via native perl, but getting
the prereq modules can be a pain...

Easiest way to test is with a "back door"

"xmltv.exe --exec script.pl arg" will execute script.pl and
should have the modules you need.

Hello robelix,

I am the initiating "Jo." - thanks for this test - as I work
with windows I tried to change this too - but ;-) I am too
stupid to get this thing compiled with cygwin *grrr*

Are you able to create a win-exe ? So we could try it some
days until tv-today has fixed its problems and (perhaps)
xmltv is adapted to that fixes ?

That would be great !!

Thanks
Jo.

But do you also get the programme information?

When I go to http://programm.tvtoday.de/tv/programm/ and
search for information beyond the first of august I get:
"Es tut uns leid, aber wir konnten keine Sendungen mit
dieser Suchabfrage finden."

It seems to be a problem on tvtodays side.

Trying to track down problem nr 2 I commented out the whole
block around linke 499:

    #if(($_ = $page-&gt;look_down('_tag' =&gt; 'span', 'class' =&gt;
'text'))) {
    #if($_-&gt;as_text() =~ m/aber wir konnten keine Sendungen
mit dieser/) {
    # warn "no information available for channel ",
$grab-&gt;{channel};
    #        undef($grab-&gt;{url});
    #    return;
    #}
    #}

and now it produces a valid guide agein. (I'm using it with
freevo)

But be warned - I'm not really deep inside this xmltv stuff
and I did not check why this gets triggered. So other
problems may occur.
