    <title>Anthias mockup version 3 released</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.terminal-emulators.anthias.devel/4</link>
    <description>Hi,

Firstly, sorry for the long hiatus. Was busy with a zillion other things in
real life. Got back enough mana to resume work on Anthias.

The major change in this release: _real_ terminal emulation.

You can grab the release from:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/anthias/anthias_mockup_3.tar.gz?download

Screenshot:

I have borrowed some code from Konsole (KDE svn). Lars, you had mailed me some
code before Christmas last, which I have lost, but was inspired by the idea.
The tweaks required to the Konsole code were relatively few, and it would be
nice to have the Konsole code in a library that any application like Anthias
can use.

Axel, are you still interested in the ideas we discussed regarding integration
of Fish and Anthias? It's been a long time, and I will post a summary of my
plans soon.

right ho,
Harshad

<description>It's been rather silent on the list, but in the meantime, I have been
digging into various source-codes. Amazingly, a tried and well-tested piece
of code, from a bygone era, has come to my rescue.

GNU Screen is an open-source terminal multiplexer developed by the GNU
Project. It allows a user to access multiple separate terminal sessions
inside a single terminal window or remote terminal session. It is useful
for dealing with multiple programs from the command line, and for
separating programs from the shell that started the program.
  - [From Wikipedia]

Screen opens multiple pseudo-ttys for each of the "sessions" and this
closely parallels the design I have in mind for Anthias.

Anthias will take this idea to the extreme; each process started on the
command line will get its own pseudo-ttys. Each ptty can be used, detached,
manipulated independently. More power and flexibility to the user, and a
cleaner approach for the developer.

I will come up with a design document soon elaborating the details.
