<description>I've just been told by the fine folks at Qwest that for four cents a
month more I can get a DSL connection that's 800kbps faster than the
one I have. Unfortunately, since I have a business legacy account
making the change would instantly kill my e-mail address. Is there a
utility that would scan my e-mail address book (or even my inbox) and
send a "My e-mail address is changing to blahblah&lt; at &gt;blahblah" message to
the folks listed there? I'd hate to have to sit down and send a reply
to everybody I've corresponded with for the past umpty-ump years one e-
mail at a time... Thanks!

have been down since 6:00 am on Sunday. It appears that incoming
traffic is being blocked (responses to outbound traffic are working),
but I've been sick the last few days and haven't had a chance to
troubleshoot.

I'll be on it tonight and am scoping out switching ISPs if necessary.
I'll keep you all posted.

I'm just starting to fool around with voice notes on my Newt 2000. Nifty! But I don't have a way to transfer them; I see (from searching the archive) that Binhexer would do what I want, but the site it was available from is no longer up, and I don't see a replacement site. Any ideas as to how one might find this program?

<description>O.K., so the subject sounds a little mis-leading, but the idea shouldn't be discounted.

How? Think about this:

1) A PCMCIA ethernet card in your Newton
2) An Ethernet Wireless Access Point (similar to a Motorola WA840G) configured as a Wireless Client
3) Connect the Newton via Ethernet to the WAP using DHCP

You have essentially created a WPA2-PSK Wireless to Ethernet Bridge for your Newton. Admittantly, a little un-wieldy and more wires than wireless... But it does open up the wireless spectrum a little more now, doesn't it?

    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.systems.newton.newtontalk/87565</link>
<description>Being a new Newton owner (first post 11-28-08), I'm trying to decide
between the best method (easiest and most useful) to get my newly
acquired 2000 and 2000u on the internet. I'm really tempted to go for
the wireless, since I could use it at other places, but I have a hunch
that the card with a dongle would be more "reliable", although it would
tether me to having to "plug in" somewhere. I have a Linksys wireless
setup going at home, so I'm thinking that I should be able to test and
troubleshoot wireless there. I'm still waiting for the arrival of my
Keyspan USB adapter to connect the Newtons to my G4 Powermac. In the
meantime, I've downloaded NCX (need to upgrade to Tiger now-have DVD),
so my goal is to have the right card chosen and acquired (probably ebay)
+ software installed which will give me Newtons customized to our needs
by Christmas. When I read about all these applications available on
unna, I get pretty psyched up. Can't wait to load an ebook, some
backdrops, etc. ...much to do and learn!
Thanks,
G.R. Aydelotte

<description>I wonder if my colleagues on the list can help me work out if we are crazy to use the Newton on the internet. It is very uncooperative, there are few places it connects at, and my machine at least often has to be restarted to get anywhere at all. I am sure we all have far smoother ways of getting onto the internet, and yet it is such fun to see that page on the screen with the word "sending" appearing at the top. It somehow makes up for it all, but I cannot help thinking that there is something strange about us for persisting with such a difficult customer.

    <description>Hi folks,

I've always wanted to know how the 20MB cards I am occasionally
parting with look from the inside. Here is the result:

http://www.pda-soft.de/memorycard1.jpg
http://www.pda-soft.de/memorycard2.jpg

Just in case someone is inclined to find some datasheets and check
if this card can be coerced into 5V/5V operation (which would make
it writable in eMates), go ahead. I'll gladly give it a try, but I
haven't the time right now to find out if the attempt would have
any chance of success.

Just in case someone wants such a card, I have still some left.

Reading Hirochi Noguchi's page, it looks like the wireless card to get
would be Lucent WaveLAN/IEEE Gold which he shows in his chart. It looks
like the driver to get would be " Latest Version: ver

<title>Introduction:New Newton Owner- OS 9 vs OSX ?</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.systems.newton.newtontalk/87524</link>
    <description>Hello All,

I've just been a Newton owner for about 2 weeks, buying a MP110 off
ebay for playing around with. Well, I liked it so much, I bought 2
MP2000's (one upgraded) with all the manuals, a flash card, and a modem
card from the same seller on ebay. I've received a cable from JK Sales
with interconnect on one end and DB9 on the other, so I'm trying to
solve the connection issues. I also bought a fax modem for the MP110
for transfering data by fax. I've barely had time to do anything with
the 2000's (going to give one to my child for Christmas), but I know I
want to download some software. I have an old Dell with a DB9
connector, but I prefer a Powermac G4 with OSX 10.3 as my main
computer. I can get a DB9 to USB converter cable to use the Mac for my
Newton connection. I received all the NCU disks for both Mac and PC
with the MP2000's, but I'm trying to decide whether to go with the NCX
utility for OSX or partition my HD on the G4 and add OS 9. What's the
better OS for working with the Newton, OS 9 or OSX (or another)? thanks

G.R.Aydelotte

Does anyone have one of these they'd be willing to part with?

If so, please let me know your asking price. Because the dongle is a small and relatively fragile item, I would ask that it be shipped in a small box. Shipping would be to the SF Bay Area and I would prefer to pay for this via PayPal.

Please shoot me a mail off-list and we'll go from there.

    <title>Tutorial for programming the Newton?</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.systems.newton.newtontalk/87484</link>
    <description>Hi,

does anyone know a source of good tutorials for programming the
Newton? I am looking for more complex application script example than
at http://code.google.com/p/dynee5/wiki/TutorialChapter1, which is not
bad though.

    <title>[ANN] Newted Community Status Update</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.systems.newton.newtontalk/87479</link>
    <description>
Newted Community Status Update

After several fruitless attempts to resurrect the Newted Community
server, I disassembled the Cobalt Qube and extracted the bothersome
hard drive. The drive will soon be winging its way to the good folks
at Datacent for appraisal and ultimate recovery.

Hopefully.

The site backups and existing bits of data from the server were not as
complete as I had originally thought. Yes, I do have a few significant
chunks of the site available for republishing, but there are several
gigabytes of personal directories and other information that remain
buried on the hard drive. This is why I have decided to go ahead with
the process of data recovery.

For some backstory of this whole sordid affair, please refer to this
previous post:

http://www.newtontalk.net/archive/newtontalk.2008-02/0347.html

I would also like to apologize for the radio silence. To be honest, I
didn't really have any news to share. However, now that some action is
being taken, status updates should start appearing on a more regular
basis.

Going forward, you can tune into the temporary status updates page:

http://newted.org/

You can also follow the Newted Community on Twitter:
