Slow database access with jre 1.6u30

Hello,
Ever since I upgraded my Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from 1.6u11 to
1.6u30, my database access is terribly slow. My 280-record database
data entry form now takes minutes to initialize, where with u11, it took
seconds. MySql logon also is noticeably slower. I have already
re-configured OO base to the new jre. My database name is:
"inventories?zeroDateTimeBehavior=convertToNull". (I understand this
was required to prevent errors with Null dates and times.) The driver I
am using is "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver". With the exception of selecting
the new jre, none of the configuration has changed from 6u11 and the new
configuration "tests" okay.

Anyone else have this problem and know the solution?

Other data:
jre-1.6.0_u30
mysql-connector-java-5.1.12
mysql 5.0.67
OO.o 3.3.0 (OOO330m20 build 9567)
Slackware Linux 12.2 (K2.6.17)
KDE 3.5.10

OSS Research Help Needed Please - drawing for tablet computer ($500.00 gift card) for participation.

Hello!

We are asking you for some help from the Open Source communities.

As researchers at the University of Tennessee we are interested in
discovering more about learning and interactions of members of the open
source forums. This research is conducted through the University of
Tennessee and is in no way associated with any forum organization. To
further our research we would like input from forum members. The responses
are very important to us so we can better understand what tools help forum
members learn and have a productive experience in participation.

There are two ways you can help:

1. Take a survey about the tools you use in the forum.

We are requesting approximately 15 minutes of your time to participate in
our survey.
Survey link: http://survey.utk.edu/mrIWeb/mrIWeb.dll?I.Project=FORUMLEARN

*As a thank you, upon exiting the survey you will be given an opportunity to
submit information to be entered in a drawing for a tablet computer ($500.00
Gift Card). *

2. Have a one on one interview talking about the forums, how you learn,
and tools used. *As a thank you for your interview you will be sent a
$25.00 gift card. * Email lholt< at >utk.edu for more information.

You may do either or both of the above. Please be assured that your answers
will be confidential. No individual’s answers will ever be identified in
any report. Should you have any questions about the project or our interest
in using the results, we encourage you to contact Lila Holt, at
lholt< at >utk.edu) or Vandana Singh at vandana< at >utk.edu.

Contact information you provide for the drawing is completely separate from
your survey answers and there will be no way to identify participants in the
actual survey responses. Nor will contact information be used for any other
purpose. The odds of being selected will depend on the number of respondents
to this survey.

I have a problem with Memo-Fields (Longtext) using the MySQL-Connector
for Openoffice (3.3.0).
No problem to write until a certain number of caracters either writing
directly in the table view or in a form, where the lengh is set zero
(0). But then, it stops me an I can't write more caracters. When I
reload table or form, it is possible to write a fiew more caracters
until it stops me again. No problem to record this in the DB. So I could
each time lengthen the field reloading the form or the tableview.
If I load the table design there is not possible to change the lengh of
the Memo-Field indicated with -1 or 0.

May be, it's a Openoffice 3.3 - bug, but I did not notice the problem
using HSQLDB.

the server keeps timing out ? You have to be really persistent to get
anywhere with any of the extensions these days, some of them just appear
to have disappeared completely ? Any new user coming to the extensions

Received an interesting request from a user that stores contact
information in a Base document. When stored in a Write or Calc document,
OOo recognizes things such as an email address and converts it to a
link. You can then click on the link to automatically open say your
email software.

Now, if I store an email address as a field in Base, is there anyway
that I can cause this to be treated as a link in a form (or similar).

In a pinch, I will write a macro that is called as an event handler for
a button activation that will read the email field for the current
record and invoke the default email software. I would prefer to not
write a macro, however.

Hi,
It's about Ubuntu 10.4 with sun-java-1.6_24 (was _22) and
openjdk-1.6_20, some Java based databases (H2 and mostly embedded
HSQLDB) connected to Base 3.3.
Additional Java parameters in the OOo options: Xms256m, Xmx512m

The one and only Java version that used to work normally was
sun-java-1.6_22 which I installed because the openjdk was slow.
Now my system upgraded to from sun-java-1.6_22 to _24 which causes
apparently the same performance as the openjdk. Queries take many
minutes where they used to take 15 seconds and editing subforms is a
pain because you have to wait for some seconds after each record change.
Is there any way to fix the problem by means of settings and parameters?
Off topic: If not, where do I get the older sun-java-1.6._22? Is ist
true that Oracle packages do not support any apt install? I see rpm
only. The rpm packages are not convertible to dpkg.
Thanks in advance,

last evening I was trying to solve a tiny problem in base but didn't

I have to set up a query in OO-base like this one. In "mysql dialect" it
would be

SELECT DATE(`datetime-field`) AS `workdate`, SUM(`field-2`),
SUM(`field-3`), .... FROM `Another-Query`
WHERE ....
GROUP BY `workdate`
ORDER BY `workdate` DESC

Couldn't find a proper way. Or am I just blind ??

How to establish an activeConnetion on launching Openoffice.org BASE with embedded HSQLDB

Hello together,

I'm new here, and i have a serious problem with my Base DB with embedded HSQLDB.
I'm not shure, if the problem exists 'cause of my Hard- and Software combination or if it's a serious bug in Base.
Using OOo 3.3-Base, Windows 7 and tryed out JRE 1.6.0_20/22/24 the problem exists with all of them:

When launching Openoffice.org BASE with embedded HSQLDB and directly open a form or dialog via basic macro,
all inserted and changed datas are lost on closing the database document.

That means, opening a Form in code does work, and I can see the datas of the HSQLDB in the form.
They also can be changed. Reopening the form via code shows the changed datas, i think they are written to cached tables, but not to the hard disk.
By closing the database-document, all added or changed datas are lost.

With xray I found out, that there is no "activeConnection" into HSQLDB established by opening forms or dialogs on this way.

When i change once into "Table view", then "thisComponent.currentcontroller.activeConnection" can be seen with Xray, otherwise it's a "Null Object".
In this case, all added and changed datas will be written to the embedded HSQLDB, nothing lost.

Does anybody know, how to establish the "activeConnection" via Basic?

Hello,

I wanted to use the external HSQLDB. Tried this in OOo 3.1.1. It works
with a "little" mistake. In the properties-file of the intern databases
is written the version from the extern hsqldb.jar.

So with newer versions of OOo the files could not be opened. They were
blocked with a warning, that the file is created with a newer version of
hsqldb.

OOo 3.3 handles it the same way if you will use an external and an
internal version of hsqldb. You could not change any data of internal
database after saving the file and trying to open it again when there is
an external hsqldb.jar with a newer version in the classpath.

For a normal user like me it is a bug, that it does not work. Why
couldn't OpenOffice distinguish between internal and external version of
hsqldb?

A warning when trying to open the database is ok, if there could be lost
data. So it could be a problem when using the version 2 of hsqldb, but
not the version 1.8.1.2 external and the 1.8.0.10 internal.

Greetings

'date'. In OOo 3.1.1 these fileds are empty in the GUI.

I have put an example to

Greetings

Error trying to update database

I'm getting an error when trying to add records to a database that I
built some time ago using a form I built some time ago. The error
message says:
Integrity constraint violation - no parent SYS_FK_123 table:
YearStats in statement {INSERT INTO "CBC_DATA_RECS" ("COUNT_YR",
"PREV_REC_NO", "SPEC_NO", "SPECIES_COUNT) VALUES (?,?,?,?)]
SQL status: 23000
Error code: -177
I used this same form about a year ago to successfully update (add
records to) the database. Only major change since then has been an
upgrade to OOo 3.2.1. Any help would be appreciated.

Wow, really?!
On the extension site stands: "this extension requires an OpenOffice.org 3.1/StarOffice 9.1/StarSuite 9.1 or newer"
Unfortunately I can't find version 1.0.0 to download. So I can't give it a try :-(
Can you give me a hint where to download?

I am running Linux Mint 10. I am using the Openoffice.org version listed
below

OpenOffice.org 3.2.1

OOO320m19 (Build:9505)

ooo-build 3.2.1.4, Ubuntu package 1:3.2.1-7ubuntu1

I went and downloaded the MySQL connector from this site

http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/node/4670

and I tried to install it using the extention manager in oepnoffice.org.
When I did I got the error message below. Any Ideas as to why this is
happening?

Thanks,
