Summary: can't start audio driver

Initial Comment:
A fairly strange but with latest stable pd-extended (0.45) on Mac OS using digidesign DIGI003 hardware for sound interface. When trying to set the soundcard from the audio preferences coreaudio and Pd crush. I found that if I set the digi003 as the output first (click ok) then set digi003 as the input (each step separately) it works fine. The program crushes when I to both input and output at the same time. This problem does not happen when using other audio application (e.g. Max) on the same setup. This happened on 3 different machines (and different digi003's).

Initial Comment:
pddplink doesn't get recognized as a graphic object, and therefore doesn't show up while used in a gop.
also, when putting one over a gop patch (to fake its presence in the patch below), it disappears if the patch below is opened (although it's still there).

Summary: Better support for loading externals on Android

Initial Comment:
Native libs on Android have a few restrictions - they need to start with "lib", end in ".so" and may not contain tilde ('~'). At the moment apps using pd on Android work around this problem by renaming files, putting them into a zip archive and unzipping this archive when the app starts.

It would be nice to be able to load them directly from the app's lib directory. The attached patch changes the loader so that when resolving "z~" it will also look for "libz_tilde.so" in the current search path.

Summary: Fixing a few compiler warnings on OS X (LLVM)

Initial Comment:
A few very minor changes.

A couple of these fix pointer dereferencing which was subsequently not used (has no effect other than causing a warning with the LLVM compiler on OS X). The only important part is the advancing (++) of the pointers, which remains as it was. In the other case, an error() function with variable arguments was being printed using an uncontrolled format string (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncontrolled_format_string). In the context of the actual code, I don't think it actually is a safety issue -- but it does get rid of another compiler warning/error with the latest LLVM compiler.

This is my first (admittedly very minor) patch submission, I hope it's okay. I had submitted a pull request on the libpd GitHub project, but they informed me it was better to apply it to the original Pd "vanilla" source, which they just bring over verbatim from time to time.

Summary: W7 - Pd files not as standard in open dialogue

Initial Comment:
Hi,

on Windows 7, Pd files aren't the standard choice in the open dialogue. This isn't a problem with windows XP, though.
The order of formats in the open dialogue is as follows:

- Pd files
- Max patch files
- Max text files
- Max binary files
- Max Help Files

And the last format is the one that is always as standard choice. The choice of format doesn't get saved. That is, every time the dialogue appears, it's selected max help files.

Best,

jmmmp

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hello all,

I want to do a copy of the complete svn (not only trunk) with:

svn co https://pure-data.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pure-data pure-data

but I have an error at some point:

svn: In directory 'pure-data/branches/by-author/gg/externals/ggee'
svn: Can't open file
'pure-data/branches/by-author/gg/externals/ggee/.svn/tmp/text-base/VERSION.svn-base':
No such file or directory

and I have to kill svn. I have tested twice and exactly the same problem
happened.
svn update to get the other files after that doesn't work:

Machiavel:pure-data nix$ svn update
svn: Working copy '.' locked
svn: run 'svn cleanup' to remove locks (type 'svn help cleanup' for details)
Machiavel:pure-data nix$ svn cleanup
svn: In directory 'branches/by-author/gg/externals/ggee'
svn: Error processing command 'modify-wcprop' in

version control
Machiavel:pure-data nix$ svn update
svn: Working copy '.' locked
svn: run 'svn cleanup' to remove locks (type 'svn help cleanup' for details)

Do you think of a workaround, or a way to correct the error?

Best

Summary: add proper quoting of filenames to GUI prefs

Initial Comment:
On Mac OS X, then GUI prefs system was not handling quoting of filenames at all. The first patch adds proper quoting, then the second patch brings pd_guiprefs.tcl inline with the coding style of the rest of the Pd GUI code (using namespaces, the 'else' keyword, etc).

Summary: ann library not recognized

Initial Comment:
Hello.
I'm plan to use the ann "Neural Network" on my linux (Ubuntu onerirc).

The first thing is that I couldn't find the ann library in the pd-extended extra folder.
So I downloaded "ann" from http://puredata.info/Members/dmorelli/ann/ann/
and I copied the unpacket folder to /usr/lib/pd-extended/extra

Then I downloaded FANN-1.2.0-and compiled it with:
./configure
make
sudo make install
the library installed without showing any error.

then I went to:
/usr/lib/pd-extended/extra/ann/src and removed -march=pentium3 from the makefile.

then I did:
make -f makefile.linux ann

Everything seemed to be fine, but pd want recognize the "ann_mlp" object.

Any suggsestion?
Thanks Martin

Initial Comment:
Hi,

just trying out pd-ext-0.43 on Windows 7, some small details that can get better:

- when caps lock is on, the key shortcuts don't work (open, save, edit,...)
- in the help browser, it would help if pressing a key would take it to the next file beginning with that letter: e.g. l goes to liner, etc.,
- is it possible to change the distance of the objects in the autopatcher without recompiling Pd?
- the autotips are in a very small font.
- the canvas properties window doesn't appear in focus
- in the message window, it would be helpful if the history would appear as a drop-down list (although not too many people use this ressource?)
- the problem with the superfluous sliders in patches with objects near the border is still there.

There was something else, but I can't find it anymore.

Great work,

jmmmp

Summary: Load patches as libs like _float_array does

Initial Comment:
Example of problem:

For me, [struct foo] is analogous to foo_class in an external-- that is, when you instantiate an object that is an external, it doesn't have to generate and compile new source code with 1001foo_class in it. Rather it just allocates memory for all the stuff that class needs, and deallocates when you remove that object. That corresponds to creating/deleting a scalar on a canvas.

So instead of [struct $0-foo], which is ugly and a hack, you should be able to do this:
1. Put [import bar] in your abstraction or whatever
2. In directory "bar" have bar_setup.pd, which contains [struct foo]
3. Pd searches its loaded libs to see if library "bar" has been loading; if it hasn't, it loads the patch bar_setup.pd without giving it a tk window (so that exactly one instance of [struct foo] exists now
4. You're abstraction loads and is able to instantiate scalar foo regardless of $0
5. For loading additional abstractions that use scalar "foo" go to step #1 and it should work.

Of course this runs into the same problems with namespace clashes as externals do, but probably has the same solutions, too. This would also work for libs of abstractions that want to share a common [v] or a [table]

Summary: fix pdp link error regarding gsl

Initial Comment:
My pdp was giving link errors related to cblas/gsl symbols upon loading onto pd-extended.
I decided not to commit this one-line fix directly, but to get your opinion first. If you say yes, I can just go ahead and commit.

Best,

Message:
I'm fine with using pkg-config as long as its supported on all relevant
platforms. Windows is not an issue with PDP since PDP doesn't run on
Windows. And on Mac OS X 10.6 with Fink, that pkg-config line gives me:

hans&amp;lt; at &amp;gt;dhcp-10 ~ $ pkg-config --libs gsl
-L/sw/lib -lgsl -lgslcblas -lm

Lorenzo Sutton recently started as the maintainer for PDP, so we should run
this by him too, perhaps on pd-dev. As far as I'm concerned, I'm good with
you committing to PDP directly.

Summary: msgfile read adds extra empty line - flush fails

Initial Comment:
After reading a file created with [msgfile], an empty line is created at the end (use "print" to see it). Additions can be made after that line with the "add" command, but flush will not output anything beyond the empty line, while "print" will show that lines in deed have been added.

I've noted before that portaudio uses more cpu in osx, it also appears to not work at all on this kit. Only a regular dusty crackling sound is emitted. Sounds like clocking issues with my edirol fa101 soundcard.

I'm using Jack for audio driver anyway as its more efficient

Summary: polish a finished patch, make it run faster

Initial Comment:
Hello,
just a vague glance into the far future...
Can/ will it generally be possible to kind of "fixate" or "polish" a finished patch/ abstraction in order to make it run faster??
In comparison to other (audio)-programming languages pd can be rather slow, I guess that's why there are many externals for things that can be made in pure data itself. I don't know why, but I think the reason must be related to Pds realtime-on-the-fly abilities, is that correct?
Anyways to overcome this, could it be possible in the future to "externalify" or "whatever-ify" the final abstraction resulting in some speed-improvements??
Thanks in advance and bye

Summary: speed up the trigger-operations

Initial Comment:
Hey,
I am just curious, is it possible to change the trigger-object to a pure-"graphic-enhancement"-object that could be called "sorted cables" or something.
It's just because the trigger-object is so slow in relation to what it does most of the time: sorting cables.
It even is faster to connect an outlet to a cold inlet and after that to a [bang] banging the hot inlet instead of using [t b f]. I know it's not much, but it becomes relevant when filling an array with eg. 100000 entries (...what was pd max integer??) . Even more if we assume that the arrays content has to be computed before, using trigger again. So there is a potential to save X times 100000 operations per array-calculation.
That's a little too much just for some grathical issue, especially if everything is hidden inside an abstraction in the end (or beneath a GUI) .
In general wasting cpu-time inhibits the creation of big patches or making them run on lots of hardware, doesn't it?
Bye

Summary: data-structure bug/ feature??

Initial Comment:
Hello, (it's pd0.42.5 on windows)
I tried to make some GUI-abstractions with the [struct]-stuff, and when looking at the parents savefile I noticed that the abstractions "drawings and stuff like that" are saved inside there as well...
To be more prcise there is something added like: "#N struct ..."
Now is it a bug or a feature (and why) ?

I guess it's a bug since I used "$0" inside the [struct]. This is saved as eg. "#N struct 1004structname ..." (not ... \$0structname ..) into the master-patch. Now if I open several of these masterpatches at once and save "not the first one" the text in the savefile changes to eg. "#N struct 1007structname ...".
But on loading as the first one again nothing complains to be wrong.. ...so is it just suberfluous?!?

That's of course just a personal opinion, but I don't like the idea that "things" from inside an abstraction appear in the abstractions master-patch as well.

Btw. what does the "#N" stand for?? Or in general why is there a "prefix" like "#N" or "#X" ??

thanks &amp;amp; bye
