iPrint with no novell client truncating usernames

<pre>Hi all

Quick blurb on what we have a SLES/OES2 running papercut &amp; being used as a
iprint server in a AD domain with no novell client.

Some usernames have "." in them eg student.1 etc
Have found that papercut is receiving the username as student instead of
student.1 (seen a bit of old discussion about this on some google results)
Client is 5.74

Is there a way to stop iPrint from truncating the username at all?

Thanks.

<pre>Hi all,

Just wondering if anybody is running OKI colour printers with
finishers/staplers (C9650 in our case) using iPrint. Having no luck with
the PCL, UPD driver (win7). The former uploads to driverstore but refuses
to do a profile config nor installs when associated with the printer and the
latter uploads and configs/installs fine but one little thing is that the
stapling doesn't work even though its in the priter properties and has been
told to do so.

This seems to be the thing with iPrint, a bit of hit and miss, are people
finding the same quirkness especially UPD (eg HP`s) for windows 7, XP just
seems to work :( for what I have currently thrown at it .

Time sync for NetWare VMs under ESX

<pre>Hi folks,

A quick question for everyone: what do you use for NetWare time sync in
ESX VMs? It has been so long since i've touched NetWare time sync that
i've forgotten whatever i previously knew.

When i was a lot more hands-on with NetWare, i got rid of timesync
completely and used NTP on all NetWare boxes. However, they were all
bare metal at that stage. Does the same thing work well under ESX?

In our existing setup we use NetWare time sync and the reference servers
talk to NTP, so my first thought was to make all of the NetWare VMs
secondary off our bare metal NTP servers. I wonder whether this would
cause NDS issues if they could not maintain a good close sync (due to
load, network traffic, VMware vagaries, etc.).

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

curious to know what programs you are using? and how well that solution
works?

before we introduce it to the rest of the 350ish machines. We are also in
early stages of Windows 7 64 bit deployment.
Any feedback on your experiences would be great.

Blue Reef Sonar unofficial peer support resources

<pre>Hi folks,

(Apologies in advance for the cross-list posting, but i'm trying to get
this out to the widest possible audience.)

There are a lot of schools out there using Sonar products, and my
subjective impression is that many of us are battling to get
functionality out of them that is very possible, but our efforts are
hampered by lack of time to research, and scarcity of up-to-date
documentation and support resources. (At present, the main admin manual
is 6 minor versions out of date, and getting a copy of an existing tech
note requires an email to support.) In recent months i've been
agitating with Blue Reef to get a more such resources for Sonar
available. Whilst they have not yet produced a viable self-support
portal, i understand that this is under way.

However, when i raised the topic of a peer support mailing list for
users and a user-editable documentation wiki (standard practice for many
of the Free Software projects upon which Sonar is based), my suggestion
was greeted with a less-than-enthusiastic response. Blue Reef's main
objection to this is that eventually people come to expect official
support on the mailing list, and get grumpy with the company when they
do not provide it.

So rather than just sit around getting grumpy myself, i decided to be
part of the solution: I've created an unofficial mailing list and wiki
that are available for anyone to join. If you are a Sonar user and
would like a forum to get peer support and share your experiences with
Sonar products, please come and join us at
    http://groups.google.com/group/sonar-users (the mailing list/web
forum) and
    http://sonar-users.wikispaces.com/ (the wiki)
The Google group has a clear disclaimer that it is an unofficial list
which does not attract any Blue Reef support. Hopefully this will be
sufficient to help address Blue Reef's major objection to peer support
forums. I look forward to interacting with many of you there.

Please feel free to forward this invitation to other contacts or mailing
lists.

Regards,
Paul

AutoAdminLogon on 64-bit Windows 7

<pre>Has anyone gotten AutoAdminLogon to work on a 64-bit Windows 7 Pro box?

On a 32-bit Windows 7 box, I can configure windows AutoAdminLogon to allow only Novell logon prompt. However, 64-bit seems to be both windows and Novell prompts or no prompts.

When I use netplwiz or control userpasswords2 to turn on/off passwords, I can verify that HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\AutoAdminLogon" changes to 1 or 0.

When I turn on/off the Prompt for Novell Login during Windows AutoAdminLogon in the client Advanced Login section, I can verify that HKLM\Software\Novell\Login\AutoAdminLogon changes to 1 or 0.

With both set to ON or 1, I should get a Novell login and no windows login. I don't get either one.

Thanks for any feedback.

Redlands College Help Desk Position

<pre>Hello all,

Redlands College invites expressions of interest for the soon to be
advertised position of Help Desk. The position details will be advertised
shortly on seek.com.au.

The IT Department at Redlands College is located in a new, purpose built
area, with a large server room, a help desk, office space and storage
area. The College's progressive nature has recently launched into the Apple
iPad, with over 380 of the devices being used over the Colleges wireless
infrastructure. The position however, need not take on an Apple "expert", as
the College is mainly controlled by a Windows environment. The role involves
assisting end users with day to day issues experienced in the IT area. This
extends from PC issues, printer issues through to iPad issues. Training and
assistance with the College's IT systems will be provided.

If you feel you might know someone, or might be suited to the position
yourself, please have a resume and cover letter sent to:

Open Letter to Novell Customers

December 15, 2010
Re: Attachmate commitment to Novell and SUSE products
Since the announcement of our intent to acquire Novell, we have
received a number of questions regarding our plans for supporting Novell
products. I know that during this period between the announcement and
closing, there are more questions than answers, and I am sensitive to
the challenges that this uncertainty may create for Novell customers and
partners. I want to take this opportunity to be clear about the
commitments we make to all of our customers.
Attachmate is committed to delivering quality products, providing
exceptional customer service, and being easy to do business with. We
are excited about the opportunity to make these same commitments to
Novell customers after closing. To ensure that we do so, Attachmate will
support the existing roadmaps and release schedules for products across
the Novell and SUSE portfolios.
It is also important for our existing and future customers to know that
we have a proven history of supporting our solutions throughout their
product lifecycles. Our philosophy is to create options for customers to
move forward, not force them to abandon products that have become
critical to their operation and success. We will continue to invest in
both the innovation of next-generation products and the nurturing of
more mature and widely adopted solutions. We understand that our
customers’ success depends on having the flexibility to evolve and adopt
new technologies at their own pace and cadence. We intend to support
that need.
As we look forward to 2011 and beyond, our excitement continues to grow
about the potential addition of Novell and SUSE to our portfolio and the
opportunity that they create to deliver increasing value to our combined
customer base. I look forward to sharing more details and specifics
about those plans once the transaction has closed.
Sincerely,

Jeff Hawn

[OFF-TOPIC] Laptop ATA drive wanted

<pre>Hi folks,

I know this is off-topic, but i also know that you're a nice bunch of
people to ask...

Does anyone have a 2.5 inch laptop ATA drive that they would be willing
to part with for free or very cheap? My son's 7-year-old ThinkPad had
its 4200 RPM 40 GB drive die recently, and i can't justify the spend for
a new one on a laptop that's worth less than $50.

Thanks in advance,
Paul
