Ways to run Pier3 on a vServer

Hello,

I am running my interwebz experiments on a virtual server which doesn't have
an X11 stack.

What is the best way to run Pier on such a setup (my server is usually left
alone for weeks) for
- persistency of the image/ Pier kernel
- managing the image itself (is there a remote workspace)

The standard Seaside "screenshot"-Tool seems to be more of a last resort.

How do you manage your headless instances?

Regards
  Markus

Take 2 :) GS3.1.0.2 Pier3 Template updates not showing up. Choosebuttons not working.

Hi Again,

Thanks Sean for letting me know my first post didn't get through and thanks for posting it for me.

Is there a way to throw away all the versions of a page except for the latest? I'm hoping that if I get rid of the history then the template changes will show up on the site.

Can anyone give me some advice on what could possible cause template updates to show nicely in admin, but not show up on the main site?

Also I tried copying the template to a new template then setting this new template as the root template, however, the choose buttons don't work on the settings page, and if I just type in the name of the template it doesn't save and reverts to the previous.

Please help :) Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm working on a short deadline and really want to get Pier up and running.

Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

Kind Regards,

Jupiter

Model actions

I was writing Magritte descriptions for a JenkinsServer object and wanted to
semi-automate the creation of buttons to start and stop the UI. Something
like MAContainerMorph>>#addButtons, but sending messages to the model
object.

As a start, I made a new annotation to tag unary methods that are part of
the public API, so you can write e.g.:
    stop
<magritteAction>

ZnEasy get: 'http://localhost:', self port asString, '/exit'.
[ self isRunning ] whileTrue: [ self wait ].
process close; closePipes.

Then I patched MAContainerMorph [1] to add the buttons for all such actions.

The result is a toolbar added to Magritte views, like:
<http://forum.world.st/file/n4693208/Screen_Shot_2013-06-13_at_1.13.19_PM.png>

What do you guys think?

[1] I'd like to generalize it to the description level so that it's
available in Seaside, etc

* Bless 3.0 as stable (it was already declared as such by the symbolic

* Declare 3.1 as the symbolic development version

The Morphic enhancements are:
* Implement basic working One-to-many relationship in Morphic with edit and
remove features
* Refactor Morph building
* Initial implementation of Morphic One-to-one relationships
* Use DateModel (from Spec) for Dates in Morphic

Hi all,

On the PharoConf I demonstrated the work I did for Friedrich Dominicus (Q Software) in Magritte, adding some dynamic stuff (i.e. dynamic columns, groups that can collapse, automatic values). As announced, he will make this open source, and I will clean up code, make more tests, a demo project and some documentation to make it more useable.

I added a project QCMagritte on smalltalk hub. I will announce when there is significant progress.

Cheers,

Dear Pharo and Ubuntu users,

Nicolas Petton and I are proud to announce Ubuntu packages for the
Pharo VM. Installing the pharo vm is now just a matter of:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cassou/pharo
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pharo-vm

With this package, you get:

- the latest pharo vm as a 'pharo' binary in the PATH
- all plugins and libraries (native boost, freetype, ssl, ...)
- file association so you can just double-click on pharo images
- pharo icons visible everywhere (on image files, on ALT+TAB...)
- PharoV10.sources and PharoV20.sources

Please fill bug reports on https://pharo.fogbugz.com.

This package is currently only available for Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal.
Fill a bug report if you want me to package it for another version of
Ubuntu.

Stéphane and I have been working on Gutemberg, a tool that converts
books written using the Pier syntax to PDF documents and HTML pages.

http://www.smalltalkhub.com/#!/~DamienCassou/Pier-Gutemberg

This project is partially supported by ESUG http://www.esug.org/.

We are proud to announce the first alpha version of Gutemberg. This
alpha version has a nearly-complete PDF exporter and a
basically-working HTML exporter.

We use Inria infrastructure to build one example book:
https://ci.inria.fr/pharo-contribution/job/PharoForTheEnterprise/.

The long term goal is to facilitate collaborative book editing. We
don't want to impose a web browser and an active Internet connection.

CSS-question concerning a PIER-image running on seasidehosting...

Dear all,

first of all I have to admit that I obviously do not fully understand how PIER deals with external files. I’ve developed a (non-commercial) website which I want to run via www.seasidehosting.st – a really great service.

I’ve added Randomizer to my website and it works with static files/resources that I’ve uploaded to the resources directory on the seasidehosting server. So far so good - but I still have a problem with a CSS-File that I have created for the website. In my development environment (on my computer) everything looks good. After uploading the image to the seasidehosting server some things (e.g. the main menu) looks very different. Obviously I didn’t “connect” my CSS-file correctly to the uploaded PIER-image.

Do I have to apply the FileLibrary for getting the access to the CSS-file? Within the “setting”-area for the PIER-components only local files can be specified for the associated CSS-files.

I’ve tried so many things up to now with no result – so I would be really grateful for any help in this matter.

Many thanks in advance and best wishes

Carl

Is anyone working on porting iCalMagritte to Magritte3?
Should I do it, and call it iCalMagritte3? Then we'd have two dev

There are some minor problems with the code.

- ICalChronos-PaulDeBruicker.5 is not in the repository (maybe lost to a

- the test class StafferDateAndTime is not defined anywhere (maybe it's
in the missing package)

Pier site change from hacker

Hi,

i have a development site based on Pier3 run on Gemstone environment ( 3.1.0.2 ).

The server is based on Ubuntu server 10.04 LTS.

Now i do some performance test and the site answer at public web request.

Yesterday and today i have found some page change from ??? one hacker ???

One attached   page changes   report:

StructureCommandDateTimeUser

/missioneEdit01/10/20136:40:55open

/missioneEdit01/09/201321:8:20open

where i note the user is not set.

The pier is created from PRDistribution subclass where the creation instance do:

self rootPage enumerator
with;
all;
do: [ :each |
each outgoingReferences
do: [ :link | (link isKindOf: PRInternalLink) ifTrue: [ link target: nil ] ].
each securityDecoration owner: self kernel users anyOne.
each securityDecoration group: self kernel groups anyOne ].

The Pier user name and password are change by default.

The Gemstone DataCurator password is change.

Someone considerations about it?

Thanks,

Dario

bug rendering files in pier3?

Hi,

Images seem to be rendered strangely in Pier 3.

Having +/system/components/logo+ in the code generates the following html:
<img alt="Logo" src="http://www.example.com/system/components/logo">

In Pier 2, this appeared correctly as:
<img alt="Logo" src="http://www.example.com/files/f6/0i0qkomrno1bwqff24ablc8y5dnlln/logo.png">

I did not have time to look too deep into it. Is this a known issue?

Cheers,
Doru
