<title>Using TUpdatingMesh</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.croquet.devel/3731</link>
    <description>
I would like to ask the proper steps to use and understand TUpdatingMesh
better. The way I do it is :-

-Create a subclass
-Initialize variables
-create method updateMesh
   -set rendering mode
-set vertexBuffer, normalBuffer and textcoordBuffer size
   -generate vertex information
   -set faceGroups to assemble mesh

My questions are:-

1) Can any collection be used for faceGroups or only IntegerArray? (Please
provide more info about setting up the IntegerArray too, not quite clear
bout it)
2) How can I include GL calls? e.g. setting line width?point size?
3) Can I set different rendering modes for 1 mesh?

Thanks,

Fong

    <title>Importing ase file</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.croquet.devel/3728</link>
    <description>Hi,

Sorry to be posting so many questions recently, but we're trying to get a lot done quickly and so far you all have been really helpful. Thanks for answering.

Our most recent issue is with trying to turn a .ase file into its own TObject, or at least a convenient mesh that we can code into a world. Ideally we could make this a subclass of TFrame that we can manipulate as any other object. In order to get to this step, we first tried to follow the outline of the boat mesh included with Croquet. I added the following three methods to a world:

createRabbitMeshGroup
rabbitMeshGroup rabbit
rabbitMeshGroup := TGroup new.

rabbit := TLoad3DSMax new initializeWithFileName: (FileDirectory pathFromURI: 'Content/Meshes/rabbit.ASE').
rabbit translationX: 0 y: 0 z: 0.
rabbit collapse.
rabbit boundsDepth: 2.
rabbit objectName: 'Rabbit'.
rabbit scale: 0.05.
rabbit initBounds.
rabbitMeshGroup addChild: rabbit.

^ rabbitMeshGroup

createRabbit: space
rabbitMeshGroup vehicle

rabbitMeshGroup := self createRabbitMeshGroup.

vehicle := self attachToVehicle: rabbitMeshGroup.

vehicle runScript: #signalPopupMenu: when: { vehicle. #blueButtonUp }.

^ vehicle

makeRabbit: space
vehicle

vehicle := self createSailboat: space.

space addChild: vehicle.

I assume there must be some difference in using the .mdl that the boat uses, and the .ase that I'm trying to use, but I'm not sure what it is. Any help with fixing this, or, even better, turning the file into its own object, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

    <title>Menu Functions</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.croquet.devel/3724</link>
    <description>Hi,

We're essentially trying to alter the menu above the simple demo world to include actions to create and manipulate objects in the world. As an exploratory step in this, I created an "Actions" menu that has an item "Create snowman" in it. This creates three movable spheres in the world every time it is pressed.

What we then wanted to do was have another option in the same menu "Animate head" that would move the head away from the body and then bring it back. This is a very simple animation, however, the issue we are running into is that we know of no way to reference this sphere so that the menu knows what we're talking about.

Is this territory that has been covered in the past? Is it simply not currently possible to use the menu as a viable way to change the scene? Or am I missing something simple that would allow us to do just this?

Thanks,

Dan

<title>Is an embedded Tweak app possible? CCollaborative in a TWindow?</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.croquet.devel/3718</link>
    <description>Hi everybody,

I have been playing with the 2D-support. I have a few questions which should
be quick.

Thanks in advance for your help!

+ What is the comment of TMorphicWorld referencing when it says "... proper
(replicated) Tweak variants" ?
(Complete text attached.)

+ Is there any example app with Tweak 2D-Interface on a TWindow?

+ Is there any reason that CCollaborativeTextWindow isn't running like for
example KMediaText as an TEmbeddableApp? Was it just before it's time?

I did some reading and trials and looks like I can easily display a
Tweak-painted complete window in a TWindow (in fact CCollaborative is doing
that for the editor only). Pointer-translation still has to be done.

I found also CCollaborative not only replicating the events like keypress,
but also the form-painting - that can be fixed as in the embedded apps. But
why not use the embedded apps infrastructure directly?

I've seen the Ben Schroeder questions on doing something advanced with
Tweak, other messages saying that Tweak-integration is still off quite a bit
- how does this fit the comment in TMorphicWorld?

Of course probably evil event-interdependencies... I killed my
morphic-embedded stuff easily mousing around. ;-)

Cheers!
Georg

Attachment 1: TMorphicWorld comment:
(c) 2006 Qwaq Inc. WARNING: TMorphicWorld is intrinsically broken since
Morphic does not provide proper synchronization mechanisms. The sole purpose
of this class is to support a few demos from way back that haven't been
converted to proper (replicated) Tweak variants.

<title>trying to use Croquet for a new language learning project</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.croquet.devel/3708</link>
<description>I run a small company that is in the middle of a new project to create
software tools to help kids age 6-9 learn a second language. I
realize that Croquet is pre-alpha, so problems are to be expected.
Still, I hope the base is solid enough that we can create some great
demos.

I hired a summer intern who has been learning Squeak and going through
all the Croquet tutorials, but we are stuck on several issues. Dan
has outlined them here: http://vcosm.com/croquet/

Some help would be greatly appreciated. In return, we're happy to
write up the details of what we learn, e.g. turning our questions into
mini tutorials and sharing general-purpose code.

Briefly:

- if we start from an existing world and make a few changes, how do we
save them? Here's the exact steps we tried; http://vcosm.com/croquet/ChangeExistingWorld.html

- what's the best way to create a new empty world? We tried invoking
BaseWorld from Squeak: http://vcosm.com/croquet/CreateEmptyWorld.html

- after we drag a JPG into a world, how can we turn it into a static
object (without the manipulation frame)? How can we save it in the
world? http://vcosm.com/croquet/AddAPicture.html

- TPainter is cool ... can we load an image (or edit a JPG that we
dragged into the world)? Where in the source code should we look to
try to enhance the 2D-to-3D conversion? (which is a nifty feature
BTW). http://vcosm.com/croquet/UseTPainter.html

Help on these issues would be a great start, though we have a few
misc. questions here: http://vcosm.com/croquet/OtherQuestions.html

Thanks in advance,

Scott

    <description>Dear Croquet developers,

I am a student at the University of Leiden and i am working on my bachelor
project. My idea was to implement an existing image/3dmodel bio-informatics
database in croquet, where several users can 'walk through' the database and
can look at the images and models that are in it, discuss, annotate and do
whatever with it.

Ive come quite far now with the implementation, however, im having difficulties
with loading 3d models into the croquet world. There is an example tutorial on
www.opencroquet.org where some .obj files are imported (they are accompanied by
.mtl files) which works fine (SanMinimum Island). But when i tried to import
some random .obj files from the internet the system hangs :(

I was hoping i could get some help/tips on how to get a working .obj / .vrml
file 3dmodel importer for croquet.

Yours sincerely,

    <title>How to catch multiple keyStroke?</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.croquet.devel/3683</link>
    <description>Hi,

I am trying to implement some keyboard functions using the keyStroke: method.

How can I catch multiple keyStroke: together?

For example, if the 'w' key is used to move forward and the 'd' key is to strafe right, I would want to press both together and move in a diagonal manner.

Currently, I can only have a single keyStroke: at a time which only the last key pressed is recorded.

<description>I am wanting to update the CPublishSpaceDialog class to
point to a location other than earth.software.umn.edu in
the current Cobalt code

* I am assuming this class is functional for publishing
.c3d templates?
* This is done via FTP?

I am having trouble locating "earth.software.umn.edu" to
make the change ... I am sure this is a simple process...
Just needing a bit of guidance

Any help would be appreciated !

<title>The appropriate view mode for CAD applications</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.croquet.devel/3669</link>
    <description>Hi,

I need some ideas/suggestions and if possible guidance on how to adjust the camera's view for my CAD tool mainly, the view of the camera in particular the viewing angle, direction and height. I have seen clips from second life videos of avatars hanging in the air while building houses. My thoughts are :-

1) Have an invisible avatar or at least switch to an invisible avatar when creating 3D solids then move the whole avatar around (up,down, left, right, rotate) when creating and editing 3D solids.
2) Leave the avatar alone but enable the camera to be independent with freedom to move about to have adjustable viewing modes.
3) Leave the avatar and camera alone but set the camera's height higher with ability to move its head around and lock on one position. (currently, the avatar can look around by holding the shift key but I have no idea how to lock on a view as it keeps going back to the center when the shift key is released)
4) Leave everything alone and integrate controls to move/rotate those 3D solids around only for better view.

Any suggestions and guidance from all fellow developers would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
