<pre>Hi all,

I've emailed the promo list about Linuxtag [1] in Berlin before but
there wasn't much feedback.Unfortunately, we are having trouble
staffing the booth. This means, if we do not have enough people signed
up by Monday next week, we'll have to cancel the booth. That would be
the first Linuxtag in several years without a KDE presence.

So, if you can spare a few hours and are based in or near Berlin,
consider signing up here:

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Claudia

Daniel Nicoletti Interview

<pre>Hi All,
Attached is the first draft of my interview with Daniel. It was suggested
after the last round of interviews to do follow ups, conversation style
after the initial questions were answered. Daniel and I were on Google Talk
last night, and neither of us could come up with anything else right off,
so we decided to send this first draft to the list and see if any of you
have ideas for additional questions based off of his answers here.

Thanks everybody!
Jayson
Daniel Nicoletti Interview:

Q: Could you start by telling us a little about yourself?

A: I find this self-questions the hardest to answer, but well I'm 27 years old,
married, had twins but, sadly one died in a tragic car accident 2 years ago,
I'm also a Christian, I studied Computer Science here in Brazil on a
university of my church, it's actually funny because I actually studied
my whole life in this institution. I like sports mostly swimming and cycling,
I like to play football but I hate spend time watching it. I also like cars
quite a lot, I dream with the day I'll be able to buy an used BMW :P
People I know normally makes jokes telling me how Windows or some computer
stuff is good, just to get me started preaching how those things suck...

Q: Where do you get your paycheck?

A: I work for a company called Indra that has a software to manage ADSL clients,
and some portals for it, so it's mostly a support work making sure a
bunch of pieces
are working well together. I staying on the client (Telefonica) which is
a 20 minute walking (something great in a city like São Paulo).

Q: What do you do for KDE?

A: A bunch of stuff, I have some problems to stay with a single thing,
right now I think I have a project overflow issue... back to the question,
the projects that take more of my time are Apper, print-manager, colord-kde,
and the list might grow once I find some free time, there is also
libdebconf-kde,
PhotoBook, sessionk... and some other non-KDE projects too...

Q: How did you get started contributing to KDE?

A: My first KDE contribution was around 2007 when I was
writing an application to my conclusion thesis, the
app was called doka and was supposed to accelerate
downloads, at that time a download accelerator was very
important to me because I used to download lots of
Linux CDs, the patch was then to let the http kio set
the end range of what would it get, I dunno if KGet
ever make use of it (at that time it simply closed the
connection on end). I stopped developing doka as
KGet was doing pretty much what I needed.

Q: How much time do you spend working on KDE?

A: It depends a lot on what I have to do on my work,
since a support job not always require you doing
stuff sometimes I can spend the whole day,
sometimes I can't do nothing :P

Q: What keeps you motivated?

A: As Linus once said "free software is all about selfishness",
so I also think my motivation is my own needs, once I find
something is missing or broken I want to fill this gap,
I have a bunch of apps that I miss but sadly I don't have time,
and to delegate a task you need people that not only
share your frustrations but also that knows how to code...

Q: What are some of your future goals for your involvement with KDE?

A: Make more and more projects to have the best DE ever,
there are several apps that I find that are good or sometimes
not so much but that doesn't fit well my needs, most of the
changes I want to do are too intrusive and from past experience
showed big changes are too hard to do, so I somehow feel it's
easier to just start yet another...

Q: What are some of your hobbies and intrests outside of KDE?

A: hmm well I'm trying to build a company but I'm not finding
much motivation these days, I have lots of stuff done
but also a lot is missing and the result is not immediate...

<pre>Heya folks :)

We have no ideas for promo or artwork for the outreach program for
women? Come on this is your chance to have someone do something
awesome for promo or artwork for 3 month - paid! Depending on the idea
I might even be willing to co-mentor.

The nice thing about this program is that during the application
period they need to do a small contribution so you can see if you're
willing to work with that particular person.

Got something? Add it here
http://community.kde.org/OutreachProgramForWomen please! So far there
are not enough non-coding ideas.

Cheers

<pre>On the 31st March we are releasing 0.6.0 of KDE Telepathy the IM client.

We would like an article on the dot in time just after the release.

I've attached some draft text for the article, but feel free to
modify/rewrite everything :)

The text is basically the same as my blog post about the beta:
http://www.sharpley.org.uk/node/60 but I've changed it from being
written in first person to third person to better suit being on the
dot.

Note that it contains two FIXME items that need changing before
release, referring to checking the download location. Please check
with Martin Klapetek or myself before publishing.

Thanks

Outreach Program for Women

<pre>Hi everyone,

KDE will ̣- for the first time this year - participate in the
"Outreach Program for Women"[1]. This was originally started by GNOME,
but has also other participating organisations like Wikimedia,
Mozilla, Fedora and others.

With KDAB as our sponsor we will be offering one internship. This is
in no way only limited to coding, but includes user experience design,
graphic design, documentation, web development, marketing, translation
and other types of tasks needed to sustain a Free Software project.

Prerequisits for application: Any woman who has not previously
participated in an Outreach Program for Women or Google Summer of Code
internship is welcome to apply, provided she is available for a
full-time internship during this time period. This program is open to
anyone who identifies as a woman regardless of gender presentation or
assigned sex at birth. Genderqueer and genderfluid people are welcome
to apply.

The application deadline for candidates is already on May 1st, while
the program runs from June 17 to September 23.

Please all, suggest suitable tasks on this wiki page [2] and volunteer
to mentor. Feel free to contact me or Lydia for more information.

Regards, Myriam

I'm guessing you may remember me, but I did a few interviews for the Dot
and the 'People Behind KDE' series. I took some time away from community
activities as I changed jobs at work (from IT SysAdmin to Developer). That
has settled down for me a little now, so I'm spending less time in the
evenings working on my development skills for work and I have some time I
could commit to helping KDE again.

Please feel free to ping me if you think there is something I can help out
with, or if you'd like me to try and do some more PBK interviews.
Thanks,

<pre>Hi

I've just stumbled upon an article by Bruce byfield that uses openSUSE 12.3
release as a good example on how to approach journalists to promote a release.

So I guess we can learn a bit from this and make our next releases even better
served to journalists. Maybe this could be one of the BoFs on Akademy 2013?

openSUSE shows how to promote a release:
http://ur1.ca/d3f6s

Hosts of Linux Action Show also praised the promotion of the release:
http://youtu.be/FsTQc0ME1eo?t=33m12s

openSUSE promo team has also perpared this wiki for the launch:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Social_media_launch_plan

BTW, congrats to Jos and his team for the great job with promotion.

Have a great time,
Jure "JLP" Repinc

<pre>Hi folks!

Peter Grasch and I were meeting earlier today to discuss some things related
to KDE's presence at the main annual FOSS event here in Graz (Austria).

The topic of enabling visitors to try KDE on their own machines via life-CDs
came up and moved into providing life images on USB sticks.

Later at home I thought: wouldn't it be cool if we had a KDE based life-image
on USB sticks there were KDE branded?

I looked a bit around and there seem to be quite a lot of companies offering
USB media branding, so I thought I'll check with the promo people if something
like that had alread been done or considered.

Our requirements seem to be pretty low, given that most (all?) of those
devices are available in blue base color and our logo or name would just be a
one color print (white on blue base color).

Cheers,
Kevin

10th Linux Session :: Invitation to Conference

<pre>Dear Sir,

I am writing as a member of Academical IT Association, known as
Akademickie Stowarzyszenie Informatyczne, from Wroc?aw University
of Technology. On 6-7 April 2013 we are holding the 10th Linux Session
and I am pleased to invite you to join it as a speaker.

Linux Session is an annual conference on GNU/Linux and Open Source.
It is held at Wroc?aw University of Technology and it is free of charge
for all participants. Linux Session is organised by students
from the Academical IT Association, who devote their time
and who acquire experience to advance and present Linux
and Open Source.

Our Association would be honored if you decide to join the conference
as a speaker. We believe that both your knowledge and experience
are worth spreading among the forum of polish Linux users.
As long as this is a non-profit project, we can not provide speakers
with any payment. However we can offer you a refund of all costs
of travel and accomodation in Wroc?aw during the conference.

For more information, please visit www.sesja.linuksowa.pl/en/.
If you have any doubts or questions, I would be pleased to provide
further information. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

With regards,
Szymon "Fenek" Datko

Coordinator of 10th Linux Session

<pre>Hi all ...

I tried to submit the story which can be see here:

to the Dot, but I am getting "Access Denied" errors from Incapsula from the
Contribute Story page.

Hopefully someone here with the necessary Dot karma can post the story for us.

Cheers ...

<pre>Hi,

As I'm preparing the code for this release it would be great if some word
wizzard could put together the announcement (to be sent to kde-announce, kde-
press-announce, displayed on the web page and on the dot).

Release date is on Tuesday 5/3.

10th Linux Session - looking for speakers

<pre>Greetings,

From 6th to 7th April 2013 Academic IT Association on Wrocław University of
Technology will be hosting 10th edition of yearly Linux Session. The
conference will be held in Wrocław, Poland.
This is the biggest conference of this type in Poland - last year the
conference attracted 400-500 attendees. As I mentioned in the subject we
are looking for the speakers. While we generally try to offer our foreign
speakers refunds for travel and accommodation costs I can not say we will
be able to do so for everyone. I would be really grateful is people
interested in participating as speakers emailed me with their proposed
topics. There are virtually no topic constraints - as long as it is related
to FOSS (though personally I'd like to have a KDE-related talk :). For
example last year we had Colin Charles talk about MariaDB. For slightly
more information you can visit the event's page[1]. There is also
registration form[2] which you NEED to fill in if you decide to participate
as a speaker. Of course you are welcome to participate in the even as an
attendee - participation in the conference is free!

I look forward to hearing from you,
