Apache Roller 5.0.1 RC1 files available

<pre>I've prepared a first Release Candidate (RC) for Apache Roller 5.0.1
and you can find it at the link below. At this time, these files are
ONLY for testing purposes and are NOT considered release from the
Apache Software Foundation.

 http://people.apache.org/~snoopdave/apache-roller-5.0.1-RC1/

This release is exactly the same as the Roller 5.0 release except that
it contains these three security related fixes:

 Option to HTML sanitize weblog content
 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ROL-1943

 Salt values in all HTML forms
 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ROL-1944

 Moving to new versions of Struts and Spring security
 http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision&amp;revision=1231565

It is important to get this release out as soon as possible, so please
take a look at the release if / when you have a chance. Because the
changes are limited and this new release is now successfully running
in production at blogs.apache.org, I don't think we need extensive
testing. We do need to do some sanity checks.

Here are some things you can do to help test, in order of difficulty:
 - Verify that the files can be unpackaged successfully
 - Verify that the signatures are valid
 - Verify that the source release builds
 - Attempt to install and run the Tomcat build
 - Attempt to install and run the Java EE build on Glassfish

Thanks,
- Dave

How to keep the data in Derby or change the developing DB to MySQL?

<pre>Hi everybody,

I'm new to Roller and I just ran the source code of Roller, everything
works fine. I created a new user and a new blog.
But when I stopped Roller and ran it again, all of newly created data
disappeared, there is no user and no blog. I guess maybe the Derby cleared
the old data when it was started.

So, I just want to know how to keep the old data when I restart the Roller?
Or, maybe I can use MySQL for developing, how can I change to MySQL?

This is my first time to user maven+jetty+Derby, I'm sorry for this kind of
"stupid" question.

Why is Roller 5 slow on tomcat 7?

<pre>Hi Group,

I am trying to setup a new roller project. For me the Roller 5 is very
slow. I saw a couple of mails on web around memory leaks but in my case
even if I increase the MaxHeap size to 1gb (I did not change the
minHeapSize though), it still remained slow. And the memory is not an issue
because that memory was never used.

Before starting to do profiling or monitoring the application i wanted to
know if anyone else has experienced this issue and if there is any known
solution for this. I have intel i7 (quad core) system, and its hardly
used. So computation power or memory is not an issue. I am using custom
template, and my guess is may be thats giving some issue.

I will appreciate any help in this regard.

thanks,

Standard & Mobile template switch improvement patch

<pre>Hi All,

I have created a issue and submit in it as a attach file in Roller's
issue system here[1]. This is the mainly changes:

1. if there is a "g_ut" parameter, we will parse its value, "standard"
means use standard template, else we use mobile template

public static DeviceType getRequestType(HttpServletRequest request) {
DeviceType type = DeviceType.standard;

String g_ut = request.getParameter(USER_AGENT_PARAMETER);
if(g_ut !=null){
return g_ut.trim().equals("standard") ? DeviceType.standard :
DeviceType.mobile;
}

String cookie = getCookieValue(request.getCookies(), USER_REQUEST_TYPE, null);
if (cookie != null) {
return cookie.equals("standard") ? DeviceType.standard : DeviceType.mobile;
}

if (isMobileDevice(request)) {
type = DeviceType.mobile;
}
return type;
}

2. then we can confirm the link to mobile template is
"http://localhost:8080/roller/?g_ut=mobile", the link to standard
template is "http://localhost:8080/roller/?g_ut=standard"

3. in standard theme sidebar.vm, we set cookie
"roller_user_request_type=standard" with "path=/", in
weblog-mobile.vm, we set cookie "roller_user_request_type=mobile". So,
after that, we can use cookie to determine standard or mobile
template.

4.improve standard/mobile theme switch button looking, just as shown
in attach figure file

I have tested it in my PC, iphone and android phone and hope you guys
can have a review of it and merge it to trunk, thank you :-)

<pre>Hi All,

I tried Roller mobile device template in trunk source code, but i can
only find the "view mobile weblog" button in basic theme, this button
does not exist in other themes ? Meanwhile, i found some problems (I
use Google Chrome 16 in Windows 7 PC):

1. I click the "view mobile weblog" button, frontpage does not change
to mobile device template, i have to refresh current page to enter
mobile template. Is it normal ? When i want to come back from mobile
template, it works same, click and refresh.

2. In mobile template, we can see blog list, but search button does
not work, after i click "search", it told me "error loading page".

3. In mobile template, i click "edit" or "comment", it keep loading,
seem net service error.

So, are these bugs ? If they are, i would like to fix them, but i want
to know, how can i submit source code patch to trunk once i finish
these ? Is there a issues system ? I found
https://issues.apache.org/roller does not exist yet. So, what is the
source code submit process? Thank you

It seems that there is something wrong with roller-weblogger-web and

can not find tools.jar, shown in attach figure. I think there may be
something wrong with Roller's maven configuration file and we should
fix it. But now, i do not know how to handle this situation, and
please help. Thank you.

<pre>Hi guys,

I have been using Roller for year, recently, i noticed that Shelan
Perera add Mobile Device template for Roller, i am very interested in
it. But i can not find it in Roller release v5.0, so, where can i get
it ? In fact, i am also interested to contribute something to Roller
as a GSoC project just like Shelan did in the last year.

Mobile Internet is developing rapidly, in China, there are more than
430 million people use mobile phone to travel in internet in 2011, and
this number will grow to 600 million this year.

So i think we should keep improving Roller's mobile experience. For
example, supply succinct template for normal cell phone(such as
NOKIA), to shorten page load time. For IPhone/IPad users, we should
supply templates in Apple's style to improve the experience. We can
use User-Agent to decide different page template.

This is just my personal opinion, and expecting for your ideas, thank you.

Roller 5.0.1 release?

<pre>I'd like to make a Roller 5.0.1 release to include a small set of bug fixes
and updates to dependencies to address potential security vulnerabilities.

Anybody have fixes that they would like to get into this release?
