[BULK] A new "laszlo-like", view-based,pure HTML system: Nametag.

Hello,

Those of you still on this list realize that the Laszlo Runtime promoted good coding habits and flexible object oriented behavior, purely in the DOM. For those of us who enjoyed that view-based OO model, there was nothing like it.

My name is James Robey, and I used to be a Laszlo developer. For the past year (and in less direct ways, 6 years before today), i've been developing a runtime in HTML that duplicates every good feature (in my opinion) from Laszlo, but with a few new twists that completely blow the lid off of the concept of "Object-Oriented HTML", and in doing so, may be a good replacement for teams wanting to keep a componetized, view-based framework while simultaneously keeping ALL of the best features of HTML/CSS/Javascript intact. Sound too good to be true?

Decide for yourself, check out http://nametagworks.com/examples.html

It was made public for the first time today (May 15th 2013) despite being largely finished for months. I wrote a lot of personal software on-top of this working out issues you won't have to. In the coming days, i'll put downloads (already finished, code-wise) up for everyone to use. It is my pleasure to tell this community about it a little bit before everyone else.

Yours in good, fun coding,

James Robey

Hi-

I'm seeing a lot of errors with this message in my OL app:

  TypeError: $3.startExec is not a function

I found this which seems relevant:

  http://jira.openlaszlo.org/jira/browse/LPP-5270

It mentions:

    Discussion with Max revealed that we should pass in "history: false"
    when we call
    Lz.swfEmbed( ... ) for a live example, so that we don't irritate the
    history
    mechanism. This makes hundreds of firebug errors go away on every
    page of the
    developer's guide.

What are the implications of passing history: false to the javascript
embed command? Is there documentation on what other arguments that
command takes?

Augusto.

I'm unable to load my OpenLaszlo application on iPhone (but able on iPad). When I run the Debug Console, the following error is reported:

JavaScript execution exceeded timeout. (LFCdhtml.js)

I'm running OpenLaszlo 4.9.0, DHTML Runtime.

Has anyone else run into this error? If so, how can I refactor my code so that I can avoid it? Other folks running into this error doing web development have suggested breaking down JavaScript execution in smaller parts:

http://stackoverflow.com/a/7787988

If I know the corresponding areas in my LZX file that I should break into parts, then I could follow the same approach.

Thanks,
Augusto.

Hi all,

I have a few questions on the upcoming release of OpenLaszlo 5.0

1. Is there any timeline for a release?

2. I'm evaluating the platform at the moment, and would like to see
the design of the new components, which are mentioned here:
http://openlaszlo.org/download
I couldn't find any source code for new components, are they currently
in beta and not public?

3. Mobile support
You are mentioning mobile features for the 5.0 release, which features
are those?

4. Tomcat 7 support
Will OpenLaszlo support Java 7 and Tomcat 7? If not, is there a
technical reason for it?

5. Mobile DHTML runtime
What's the difference between the DHTML runtime, and the mobile DHTML
runtime? Which mobile browsers are supported by the mobile runtime in
trunk?

Thanks,
Stevie

We have a 7 year mature CRM product, think Salesforce, with the front end built entirely in OpenLaszlo. We are looking for a contractor to augment our existing team. Initially we have a need of 40+ hours a month but that could grow quickly. Initial projects will be bug fixes and minor feature adds. We are currently running Laszlo version 4.0.7 but have a side project of getting to 4.9 so if you have experience with this upgrade that is a plus. The back end is built in Coldfusion and we do have projects available in this area too. how do i completely disable the right-click menu? not just the openlaszlo specific items like discussed here:

  http://forum.openlaszlo.org/showthread.php?p=34570

but also the flash items, like "Settings...", "Global Settings...", "About Adobe Flash Player..".

this page says you can disable the right-click menu by adding an option to "embed":

  http://www.sitepoint.com/users-right-click-menu/

but we're using the openlaszlo javascript call "lz.embed.swf" to embed. i tried passing in menu: 'false' to the swf js call, but the menu still there.

any ideas?

hi-

i have a grid with gridtext elements, like the first example on the reference page:

http://labs.openlaszlo.org/trunk-nightly/docs/reference/lz.gridtext.html

on a desktop browser, single-clicking on a row under the ID column, it quickly reveals
an editable Name column, but then it goes away. only by double-clicking does the Name
column stay editable so you can edit it.

on iPad, tapping a row quickly brings up the Safari's keyboard, only to disappear.

1) is this the expected behavior of grid?
2) if so, is there a way to modify this behavior for the mobile case, where quickly bringing up the keyboard just to hide it isn't a good UX?

thanks,

Hello!

I tried to use modaldialog which was displayed but not modal. Also I wanted to give a window a modal behavior... no chance. I use OpenLaszlo 4.9 with Flash.
I tried this example without success:

http://www.openlaszlo.org/lps4.9/laszlo-explorer/editor.jsp?src=docs/reference/programs/Components-$139.lzx

Has anyone a hint for me?

Best regards

Ralf

Memory Leak Tools (OL 4.9.0 / SWF8)

Hi-

I'm using the memory leak tools on OpenLaszlo 4.9.0, on a SWF8 version of my application.
I run the following command in the Laszlo Debugger:

Debug.markObjects()

For a couple minutes, CPU usage is high while its marking objects. After several minutes, CPU usage goes back to normal and then the following message shows up:

WARNING: Could not find resource empty

At this point, the Debugger window and my UI in general is not responsive to any mouse clicks.

Has anyone experienced this, and if so, what could I do to figure out how to fix it?

Is it an issue of running out of memory? I was able to run the memory leak tools on a very simple example LZX file.

Thanks,
Augusto.

I am migrating our much older version 4.0.7 to 4.9 and I am getting a strange Compilation Warning. Anyone else had this problem?

                C:/Program Files/OpenLaszlo Server 4.9.0/Server/lps-4.9.0/WEB-INF/lps/schema/lfc.lzx:832:41: Method <interface name='text'>/setText: attempt to override final method

I also used to give views a dynamic name from the datapath doing something like:
                <view name="$path{'< at >id'}"/>
I am getting compiler error that this "is not a valid javascript identifier", anyone run into this one too?

Thanks,
David

i have code from openlaszlo 4.0.0 that works but breaks under openlaszlo 4.9.0:

====
        <script>
                Stage.scaleMode="noScale";
    Stage.align = "TL";
                function goFullScreen() {

  </script>

it accesses ActionScript's Stage directly from openlaszlo. however, this code doesn't compile in 4.9.0.
any suggestions on how to get this to work?

thanks,
augusto.

i've done a major upgrade from openlaszlo 4.0.0 to 4.9.0 and i noticed my application is taking longer to compile (about 50% longer). does anyone have any ideas on how to reduce compilation time?

thanks,
augusto.

ps- i attempted to read the compilation page (http://www.openlaszlo.org/lps4.9/docs/developers/compiler.html) but openlaszlo.org is not responding.

Dataset returning browser-related error string "client could not parse XML from server" (browser-related)

Hi all,

I have a strange issue with a dataset request I am making. The
request works fine in Chrome, but is broken in Firefox. Basically, my
program sets up the dataset src and querystring and calls the
"doRequest()" method. The dataset does not load any data and instead
fills its "errorstring" attribute with "client could not parse XML
from server". It keeps doing this as many times as I reiterate this
process in my application.

However, I can open the debug window, type <datasetname>.doRequest()
without changing anything from its last (failed) request, and the
request will go through fine and show the correct data. I can also
open a new tab in FireFox, paste the exact request URL that failed
(copied from FireBug), and get back the properly formatted XML data.

I even tried changing this particular dataset to the exact src and
querystring of another dataset that works fine under FireFox and I
still get the parse error. So for some reason FireFox just simply
does not like this particular dataset.

Has anyone else run into this problem, or a similar problem related to
the FireFox XML parser?
