Will there really be a ranking of completed projects, since the prize money is the same for each?
If so, will Sun list the rankings? I'm not requesting that this be done, I'm just curious.

I would like to request, though, that Sun post something about the results.
Even if it's nothing more than saying something like "all projects were judged to be 'complete' and
conformed to the rules".

    <title>IRC logging of #openjdk</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.java.openjdk.general/986</link>
    <description>Hi all

I talked to 'robilad' on IRC and he asked me to send this to the discuss
list.

I would like to get confirmation for running an IRC logging service in
the irc channel.

The service has been running for several other projects such as
#eclipse, #haiku, #macports and others - and provides an invaluable
resource for getting information about projects and issues within.

I realize that some people do not like logs being published, which is
why I wanted to confirm this before publishing anything.

This is a personal project and hold no commercial interrest. The logs
are exportable.

The logs will be available at: http://echelog.matzon.dk/?openjdk
(awaiting confirmation before being available).

Kind Regards
Brian Matzon

it seems like the Java2Demo and SwingSet2 demos are not included in
OpenJDK. I think they make pretty nice demos for Swing and Java2D, and
would really like to see them as part of OpenJDK. I wonder why they are
not included? They have been relatively liberally licensened even before
OpenJDK, under the 'nuclear-BSD' license. Is it a big problem to remove
the nuclear clause and include it in OpenJDK?

<description>I'm pleased to announce that the OpenJDK Regression Test Harness, also
known as jtreg, is now available with an open source license, instead
of the earlier binary code license. jtreg now uses the open source
version of Sun's JavaTest harness, called JT Harness [1]. Apart from
the change to use JT Harness, and a few minor bug fixes, and a change
in the version number, it is otherwise the same jtreg as before.

For now, the source is available in a source bundle, available from
the OpenJDK jtreg pages [2].

Many thanks to all those on the OpenJDK, JT Harness and legal teams
who worked to make this possible.

    <title>Symbol ``['' and a java.net.URI.create method</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.java.openjdk.general/931</link>
    <description>Hi all,

I'm working on adopting of jpackage project to openSUSE and got a problem with
build of maven. The jpackage's folks have a script build-jar-repository,
which symlinks the jar files in /usr/share/java to defined dir.

My problem is, that the script produces a links in this
form - /foo/bar/[ant].jar which later causes an IllegalArgumentException,
because a java.net.URI.create dissallows ``[]'' in URI. The response from
jpackage is, that java.net.URI.create has a bug, because symbol ``['' is
valid in a Unix path.

I'm testing several JRE implementations, but only gcj allows the ``[]'' in
URI, other ones not.

What do you think about? Is this really a bug in handling of unix filenames?

Regarding the CFV on the following question[1]:

Should the Core Libraries Group sponsor the "More New I/O APIs

Voting has now concluded. I have received "Yes" votes from the
following 9 members of the Core Libraries Group:

  Christopher Hegarty
  David Bristor
  Doug Lea
  Iris Clark
  Joe Darcy
  Mark Reinhold
  Martin Buchholz
  Pete Soper
  Xueming Shen

This constitues an absolute majority of the eligible voting members.
Thus I am able to immediately render a decision.

The Core Libraries Group has decided to sponsor the JSR-203 project.

Thank you.
