<pre>
Hi guys,
I just aquired a Coco 1 (grey) Cat 278-300A., CCR-81 Cassette Recorder, X-Pad and a few carts and tapes.
The Coco powers up fine.
Extendended Color Basic 1.0
PRINTMEM reports 24871
Since this is an "F" board and the "F" boards were the first Coco 1s actually "meant" to be upgraded to 64k, I assume it is 64k.
The warrenty seal has been removed and replaced by a Radio Shack Service Center seal, so I would think it had to be upgraded by Radio Shack or the seal would be broken. What I would like to know, and I know it's been discussed many times before, is if there is a PEEK/POKE or short routine to test for 64k? I plan to hook it up to a drive and run OS-9 Level 1 and that will surely fail if it's 32k. But if there's a quick way, that would save me a lot of trouble

Here a link to some pics of the Coco 1 and accessories I recieved

it said Extended Color Basic, not sure which version, it also said Copyright
Microsoft, if it said anything else i do not remember, and when i used the
sound command it played beeps based on the DURATION and FREQUENCY i specified,
then a few days later when i turned it on it now says Color Basic 1.2 (C) 1982
TANDY and sound no longer works.

Simple Coco bus buffer for HW folks

<pre>[ I tried sending this before, but I think from the wrong account. Sorry
if this is a dup. ]

I put together a little board to help me with my hardware development,
and I thought that it might help others as well. It's essentially a
stripped down version of my ROM/device emulator - just the buffer chips
and a pin header breaking out all of the needed stuff. The header is
compatible with the GPIO header for the Terasic DE1 FPGA dev board, but
obviously it can be used with anything, both 3.3v and 5v, provided that
it can supply the board with 3.3v.

Take a look at the video to see a quick demo using the FPGA as a ROM:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttf82tPXUko. Overkill, but you get the idea.

When I have a few minutes I'm going to put the board layout and
schematic up on the web. I also intend to sell populated board for
those of you who don't like to do fine pitch SMD soldering. Haven't
finalized a price yet, but I believe it will be around $35. If you're
interested, send me a note.

I'm still working on the ROM board, but I'm playing around with some
options to make it cheaper and more flexible.

RGB2VGA in FPGA, useful?

<pre>Could this be useful in a "v2" of Roy's adapter?

This RGB to VGA adapter was designed upon an Altera FPGA for use with a BBC
Micro (PAL) and has been released as open source.

https://github.com/makestuff/rgb2vga

NATIVE DIGITAL RGB TO VGA CONVERTER

This code accepts a pixel clock, R, G, B, HS and VS from an old computer
and generates a VGA signal suitable for display on a modern monitor. The
main caveat is that monitors to be used with PAL machines must be able to
deal with a 50.000Hz vsync (many do, some do not).

&lt;...&gt;

This will build a .svf file suitable for loading into an Altera EP2C5 FPGA
(e.g http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150835820710). Suitable level-shifting is
required to protect the FPGA from any 5V signals. On the VGA side, a series
270R resistor on the R, G &amp; B lines is all that's needed.

toolshed updates and PPA

<pre>Hi everybody,

I am new on the list, although I have been peeking at the archives for
some months already. I am a Dragon 32 user and have recently picked up
some development after a few decades' long hiatus.

= m6809 dev PPA =

For those on Debian-based systems, you may find my m6809 PPA (personal
package archive) convenient. It has the latest versions (or
snapshots) of toolshed, lwtools and xroar. The packages are built on
Ubuntu 10.04 which means they should install without problems on any
Debian-derivative released in the last 3 years. The PPA page itself
has instructions on how to add the PPA to your software sources so
that you get automatic updates.

        https://launchpad.net/~tormodvolden/+archive/m6809

= toolshed updates =

For those unfortunate Windows users, you can now find updated build
instructions in the toolshed mercurial repository. Building should be
straight forward on MingW systems, and I would welcome feedback on
Cygwin systems.

A little hint for anyone bandwidth-challenged: The above PPA contains
a 1.1 MB orig.tar.gz which is a source snapshot without the 40 MB
documentation and the overhead of a hg clone.

makewav has received some updates, and can now read DECB headers, and
also write .CAS files.

hdbdos and dwdos can now be built with lwasm, while the deprecated
mamou has been made more compatible with lwasm to ease the migration.

Regards,
Tormod

User Group and Collections VHD

<pre>
Hi Guys,
I finally finished the "User Group and Individual Collections OS9.vhd"
Each collection is in it's own directory and each file archive is uncompressed to it's own directory
The archive includes (OS9) OCN, Princeton, RTSI, CIS-OS9, and The Color Computer Disk Image Archive.
These are all OS9 archives and searchable with any OS9 search utility. Stick this vhd into drivewire and have access to one of the largest single disk, uncompressed archive collections on the internet.
It has taken me about 3 months of decompressing all the files from each archive and moving to proper directories.
The one thing I didn't do, is set all the attributes. As most any OS-9 user knows, when you decompress a file, it's attributes are not set. So you will have to do this when you want to use a file.
Here's the link:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23059963/Stuff/User%20Group%20and%20Individual%20Collections%20OS9.vhd

It will also be available from my website under the utilities page.
This vhd rplaces the previous RTSI vhd I had up before as RTSI is included here.
If the link doesn't work, try again later as it may still be uploading

Enjoy :-)

<pre>Sure took me some time!

For those not in the know, EmCee is a DriveWire-like server for the MC-10,
only it works with filesystem semantics instead of disk I/O semantics. You
can use it if your MC-10 has an extension board by Darren Atkinson (Hi
Darren!), or you can CLOAD a binary of it if you have a plain 16K memory
expnsion by Tandy.

I can read and write data files with OPEN #n, PRINT #n, and (LINE) INPUT
#n! That was the last thing missing.

Things are still far from complete, but now it's totally usable. What's
still missing, that I can recall, is:

- The only things that can me LOADM'ed are .C10 files. Hey, it's good
enough to load Pac-Man.
- No text translation for BASIC programs. They are saved as tokenized
files, and only tokenized files can be LOAD'ed.
- No screen saving.
- No filename extension cooking. If a file is named MYPROG.BAS, then
LOAD"MYPROG" won't work.
- No filename case inverting. I believe I should, by default, show
lowercase characters in UNIX as non-reverse video characters.
- The base directory is always the current directory where the server was
run from. That should be configurable.
- Printing always goes to /tmp/emceeprint.DEVICENAME.txt -- that, too,
should be configurable.
- Speaking of which, there should be a configuration file.
- And a proper SourceForge project, complete with makefile, license etc.
(It is GPLv2+, it's in the source header.)

For now, if you want to play with it, get it from the URL below...

http://users.vialink.com.br/jcastro/emceed.c

...compile it under Linux with...

gcc -Wall -o emceed emceed.c

...and run it with...

./emceed /dev/ttyS0

...or whatever your RS-232 UNIX name is.

Cheers!
Juan

<pre>Well, at some point I had to make up my mind and release a "version

ever wrote.
Not that I wrote that many decent games, but...

I still think of it as a "release candidate", since I haven't actually
played it in real hardware.
Also, there are plenty of new features that will be added to future
versions, but right now, it's playable, it looks good, and I believe
that it's fun to play.

You can get it from http://yaccs.info/PROGRAMAS/FELINES/felines.html ,
and of course, any feedback is more than welcome!

<pre>I slashed CoCo Hardware prices on my online store today, in an effort to get rid of a few things and make room for more. Please remember all my prices INCLUDE shipping to the USA and Canada. Prices are in USD and I only take paypal.

Outdated DriveWire installations

<pre>Hello Coconuts,

I have received a number of bug reports in recent days from users with old
versions of the software. This leads me to believe either many people are
not updating as new versions come out, or they are getting old versions
from somewhere on the net.

Please make sure you are up to date as step 1 if you have any problems.
Nearly every update fixes some bugs and most recent reports are regarding
problems already corrected.

If you have at least version 4.3.3, you should be able to check for and
apply any updates using the built in update tool. The current version is
4.3.3j. The software does not check on its own as I find that annoying,
but maybe I need to have it do that.

Also if you run a file repo and are hosting your own copy of DriveWire,
please delete it and instead provide a link to the official site. You are
doing your users a disservice by distributing out of date software.

Thanks
Aaron

OS-9 Startup script

<pre>
Does anyone know the proper syntax to change the "default" work directory from the startup script?
If I do:

chd /dd/xxx
shell i=/w&amp;

The new window will be in the xxx dir but the main window will revert back to /dd

Thanks

Alternate O-9/itrOS-9 C Compiler

<pre>
Hi guys,
Ok, with several people asking about the OS9 C compiler, I decided to add a page to my site explaining my C compiler system. It's a bit different, but not much. Not only is it the C compiler I used for my DW4Man and Sound Chaser programs, but it is also the compiler Mike Knudsen used to compile Ultimuse 3. In fact, it was Mike that gave me the compiler. I've tried to describe it's usage as best I could as I am not a seasoned C programmer and my terminology may be lacking. But any one having run either of my programs has seen the extent of what it's capable of. Both DW4Man and Sound Chaser are large, multi file programs that use Mike Sweet's "CGFX.L" (cgfx7), Carl Krieder's "CLIB.L", Time Koonze's "Make", Mike Knudsen's RcM2 &amp; CnoY, and Zack Session's "window" library.
On the provided disks and in the tutorial, I included the sources to Mike's "UBox3" as a sample for running the compiler.

Please send any questions to me privately as I don't want to clog the list with a discussion of this compiler.

Here it is:

Enjoy

A) Yes, it starts up different. After 20 seconds it switches to a different
