<description>I used to b+ command and it really worked nice with one CPU

Hercules would stop I wound enter a "g" to go the next instruction

However with Multiple CPU's the Hercules doesn't stop

I underatand that other CPU's are still active

However even when I switch to the CPU that is being stepped thru

e.g. CPU X where x is the CPU being stepped thru

Hercules stops but when I enter "g" it just takes off without

stopping at the NSI Next Sequential Instruction

    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.hercules390.general/30057</link>
<description>I have a strange problem where address 24-27 (old SVC in 360) and
14C-14F (old SVC in z) do not match.

Because of the way the op-sys I use, maps the new to the "old", it is
IMHO impossible that these two adresses do not match.

Under certain circumstances I get the adress of a STNSM on 24 (but 14C
is not changed).

I have not yet tried it on real iron- sure will, but figured I might as
well ask here.

Is there some way to send Ctrl/x type sequences to the Hercules guest
from the Hercules Command Prompt??

I was recently playing with networking while setting up a zLinux guest
under Herc. and often I didn't have Putty access because TCP/IP wasn't
functional in the OS.

The only way I had was to login to root via the Hercules command
prompt, pre-fixing every Linux command with a dot.

This worked well until I accidently issued a PING command - unlike
windows, PING in my Linux doesn't default to a count of 4 so I was then
stuck because I could not figure out how to send a Ctrl-C sequence to
stop the PING (I now know to use the -c parameter)

Any clues here ??

<description>Posted on both the hercules-380 and hercules-390 lists.

Roger Bowler provided some suggestions on improvements to the feature
checking I had been doing in these changes. These required some
additional analysis of macro usage which I have now completed. I am now
positioned to make the suggested adjustments, compile and test.

With the discussion on the hercules-390 list about the next release, it
is my goal to get the changes ready for inclusion next week while on
vacation.

I know this is not realy a hercules question- but there are a lot of

<title>Failed CVS build in po directory on ubuntu 8.04-1</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.hercules390.general/30022</link>
    <description>Hi folks,

I'm rebuilding my hercules on linux (ubuntu 8.04-1) and I ran into a
problem in the make for the "po" directory. This is a first-time
build under this release for me, though I have built from CVS under
other ubuntu releases. Other times though I have used --disable-nls,
so this is the first time I'm trying to build with nls support (not
that I need it, I'm just trying to build with it this time).

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Sources pulled from CVS tonight (Monday 08/26).

FWIW I did run "sh ./autogen.sh first... :)

(P.S. -- The "m4" bug in cvslvlck that I found and reported here last
March is still there in CVS. The only line that has to change is the
m4 data line, change the special flag from 1 to 0 and it works.
Otherwise you get "HUH" and "DUNNO" for the m4 line.)

The actual error generated in po is as follows:

Making all in po
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/pjf3/hercules/po'
test ! -f ./hercules.pot || \
  test -z "nl.gmo de.gmo" || make nl.gmo de.gmo

The only arguments that I gave to configure are:

--enable-cckd-bzip2 --enable-het-bzip2

And the bzip2 libraries and headers are installed.

Output from cvslvlck is as follows (extra newlines deleted):

OKcvs (informational), found 1.12.13

    <title>Trying to understand CCKD integrity</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.hercules390.general/30018</link>
<description>I'm trying to understand how a host power failure can affect CCKD
write processing. I have read the CCKD doc, and some of the code, but
I'm still not clear how the FSYNC, FREEPEND, and GCINT options
interact. In particular, if FSYNC is not specified, what is the limit
(if any) to how long a write from the guest system can remain
unwritten to the real disk, and thus subject to complete loss? With
default GCINT and FREEPEND values of 5 and -1 (= 2 with no FSYNC, if
I understand correctly), given a large enough host OS cache, could
this data just sit in Herc and/or host cache for weeks waiting for the
power to go off?

In the current case, a system was up for a couple of weeks, with
various write activity. The weekend saw an apparent power failure, and
after running a cckdcdsk -4, the guest OS claims that one of the
volumes is not labelled! I am completely sure that the volume label
was not written by the OS during the IPL, and further, has not changed
since the base file was created. However, looking at the shadow file
with cckddiag, Cyl 0 Track 0 is present but all zeros. :-( There's a
good looking one in the base file, but I don't know how to copy just
that one track from base to shadow.

Have I done this to myself by using -4 on cckdcdsk, in other words
does it try to produce a null track of some sort even if there's
nothing to base it on? Or perhaps it stumbled across some zeros that
looked like a plausible track 0 to recover...? Well, I'm speculating,
and of course I have backups from before I started fiddling with
cckdcdsk, but -3 doesn't seem to fix my original problem.

Thanks,

Tony H.

    <description>Hello!
I am in the process of obtaining a bundle of hardware to facilitate better
and perhaps more interesting activities for Hercules.

First Question: Is the building of Hercules still supported under Cygwin?
(This presupposes it will work on Linux as well as under Cygwin. The
building methods, not the binaries.)

Second Question: Can the Fish created GUI manage a Hercules system that's
_not_ one of the native ones?

Third and final Question: What's involved in getting Hercules to run on
Windows Server 2003?(!)

<title>Searching for original IBM APL\360 TYPE III Program materials</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.hercules390.general/29988</link>
    <description>Hello, all:

There is a lot of interest in "retro-computing" these days, and I am
hoping to resurrect APL\360 running under DOS/360 or DOS/VS using the
Hercules IBM mainframe emulator.

I am hopeful that somewhere, someone may still have a machine-readable
copy of the original IBM Program 360D-03.3.007 APL\360 for DOS/360,
which was released by IBM as a TYPE III program in Aug. 1968, with no
support and at no cost, without copyright or license.

Also, we would like to find copies of any of the following IBM
manuals, for these early versions of APL\360:

APL/360 TYPE III PROGRAM DOCUMENTATION REPORT 360D-03.3.007 AUG. 1969
APL/360 OS AND DOS GENERAL INFORMATION MANUAL, DEC. 1970 GH20-0850
APL/360 OS AND APL/360 DOS USER'S MANUAL, DEC. 1970 SH20-0906
APL/360 OS AND APL/360 DOS SYSTEM MANUAL, 1ST ED., JUN. 1971 LY20-0678
APL/360 DOS OPERATIONS MANUAL, SEP. 1969, H20-0685
APL/360 DOS SYSTEM GENERATION MANUAL, SEP. 1969, H20-0686
APL/360 DOS OPERATIONS AND INSTALLATION MANUAL,DEC. 1970 SH20-0938
APL/360 0S OPERATIONS AND INSTALLATION MANUAL, DEC. 1970 SH20-0890

Please ask around to see if anyone might still have a copy of any of
these materials, so they can be saved for posterity.

Thank you.

    <title>zLinux, CTCI-W32 and networking</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.hercules390.general/29955</link>
    <description>Good people

Is it possible to set up Hercules so that I have two CTCI connections
to different subnets?

My dilemma - I have set up Debian-s390 on my XP laptop with access to
the outside world (for apt-get etc) using the following

0420.2 CTCI -n 00-21-86-56-07-6D 200.250.178.24 0.0.0.0

All is working well - I can access the internet from zLinux when
required and I can connect via Putty for logging in.

I then wanted to simulate attaching/mounting an iSCSI disk - the zLinux
has two CCKD devices which are just fine - but I need to work out iSCSI.

I created a VMWARE virtual machine and installed FreeNAS which presents
an iSCSI target - I have verified this by connecting to the iSCSI disk
via Microsoft's iSCSI Initiator. This VM has an IP address of
192.168.1.22

My next step is to discover this iSCSI target from zLinux - this is
where I am stumped. The discovery fails - zLinux cannot ping
192.168.1.22

I am not sure if I need to force a static route or whether I need to
have a second CTCI on the 192.168.1.xx subnet.

I have tried many combinations but so far I can't get through.

My TCP/IP skills are very low - can one of the Herculean gurus help me
with my problem ??

Hopefully

maximum of 8 channel path

In Dasdtab.c it seems that this is the field that identifies the SSID

store_hw (buf + 232, SSID(dev));

however when I define a new group of channel path(s) and change this

field meaning I want MVS to recognize that this device is part of a

new subsystem

I get an error message unable to read configuration data on this channel

path meaning it seems to be the same subsystem which already has the

maximum of 8 channel paths

<title>Hercules Usage for Mainframe Application Simulation</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.hercules390.general/29940</link>
    <description>Hi All,

I am not an expert on IBM mainframes though I have dabbled in
mainframe
COBOL applications a long while ago.

I am exploring the possibility of using Hercules to simulate a COBOL
mainframe application running at a clients site. The simulation will
be
used by new recruits and existing employees of the client to get
familiar with the mainframe application before 'live' operation.

The application is running on a z9 system under z-os. The database is
IMS.

I have the following questions.

1) Has anyone done in this group done this sort of thing before ?
2) Is it feasible ? e.g. using MVS 3.8 for Hercules
3) Assuming that the client has licenses for the COBOL compiler and
IMS, how do I convert the software to Hercules readable format ?
4) Are any real customers using Hercules for simulation / training or
is Hercules restricted to geeks and developers only ?
5) How does the cost/benefit compare with replicating a smaller
version of the system on an LPAR on the mainframe itself ?

I would be grateful if anyone can shed any light on these matters.

<description>Yesterday I visited the new(ish) Computer Museum at the top of the Grande
Arche de La Defense at Paris. While most of the stuff was of the Commodore
Pet variety, there was one interesting exhibit, an IBM 7040 with 1442 card
reader/punch, 1403 printer (not N1), and a 2311 disk drive. They also have
some ancient IBM hand punches, and the innards of what looks like a 2316 or
3336 disk pack. None of the exhibits are operational, but nevertheless it
is worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.

<title>PRINTING of SEPERATOR in VM causes printer to stop and DRAIN</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.hercules390.general/29899</link>
    <description>Hi

I originally referred to this in post about "CODE PAGES" about two
weeks.
But I ASS U med that it was the "C" code that I was putting on the
PIPE that was causing the problem.

So I tried with the Printer SETUP pointing to a file and exactly the
same thing happens when I use SEP.
Which means that at least my code is not at fault.

In the middle of printing the SEP pages there is a CMD reject on the
console,The printer goes into a DRAIN state and the print job remains
in the queue.

Actaully I have determined that it is probably at the very end of the
SEP pages.
Can anybody else recreate this issue.

I am using VM/xxx (:-). Not a Z version.

<title>Trying to submit a card deck crashes Hercules</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.hercules390.general/29896</link>
<description>I am running Turnkey-MVS version 3 (the latest v3 version downloaded
from the Turnkey-MVS site) with the TK3F001 patch, on Windows XP
Professional. When I try to submit a card deck to the reader, e.g.
using the command "devinit 10c c:/mvs38j/test/test1.jcl ascii eof", or
using any equivalent method including HercGUI, Hercules crashes with
an "Oops" message.

I have not modified the Turnkey system in any way except to remove the
console printer from the configuration, and to add the missing
"NOAUTH" to the HTTPPORT parameter.

Hercules is the 3.05 version downloaded from the Hercules site.

Is this a known problem, or should I send someone a dump? I have
searched the net but found no answers.

Cheers
