Hi,

I'm trying to create a pretty simple website and I'd like to be able to create a template to use the fckEditor to input data onto a page. I'm sorry but I didn't really understand the explanation in http://documentation.magnolia-cms.com/technical-guide/dialogs.html of how the template to add the paragraph on a page works. Maybe this is not up-to-date anyway?  When I tried putting an [< at >cms.editBar /] into a template it gave me a parse error saying cms.editBar was not found. I was hoping I could find an example of this somewhere on the demo sites but I don't see that anywhere. Is there an example of this to look at?  Or how can I put this feature into a template?

Also I'm not sure how to find the templates that correspond to a name in the model. Where is the "Section" template named for example?

Hello.

Could you share your way of working with magnolia? How do you speed things up?

Do you use bundled magnolia or as a maven artifact? Do you develop a .war or a module?

Currently i'm bored with development routine. Netbeans and magnolia as maven dependency serve pretty well on template development stage  -  tomcat track changes to .jsp source and redploys the file. But pure java files give me pain. Forces to undeploy, recomple and deploy again. Resulting .war is about 30Mbs and it takes some time to redeploy even locally.

I'd say that working on a site as a magnolia module could speed deployment up, but I have no idea how setup development environment comfortably so it would track template files on fly.


Please share.

Slow css editing

I've noticed that editing css on my system is incredibly slow (takes ~2 seconds for each character to appear after typing it). Any clues about this? I'm not on an especially slow system (Macbook Pro w/ snow leopard) and editing templates for example doesn't have this problem.

I placed a file in the Magnolia Java webapp project like this:

Now in a java class I need the path of MyFile.
I'm trying to use ClassLoader.getResource("img/MyFile") function but I always get null.
Any ideas?

Discussion: magnolia lastAction and Publication-Date

Hi everyone,

I recently filed a bug: http://jira.magnolia-cms.com/browse/MAGNOLIA-4415
which was closed as "Not an Issue".
However, Jan encouraged me to post this issue to the user list for discussion, which I am now doing.

The error I posted was this: When activating, magnolia activates the content "as is", and then sets the "lastAction" metadata field on the author instance after activation.
This means that the values of the "lastAction" metadata field differ between author and public instances, with the public instance always trailing "one activation behind" the author instance with respect to the "lastAction" field.

We noticed this error because we use the "lastAction" field to implement sorting by publication date, and were getting different sort-order on author and public instances.

Jan has proposed 2 solutions, which will work for us, but IMHO they are more workarounds than final solutions.

Jan writes: "lastAction date in meta data is value meant for Magnolia internal use only and is used on author instance to keep track of performed activations"

è In this case my contention is that it would be extremely useful to have a "publication-date" field that is automatically set by magnolia

Jan writes: "If you want to sort content by the date I would suggest to use custom property for such values rather than value that is meant to be for internal use by activation."

è In other areas of the site we do exactly this. However, this requires that the editor manually set and update the property. Sometimes this is what is wanted. Other times, this is NOT wanted, i.e. it is not desired to give the editor this control (and the opportunity to introduce errors), the content *should* be ordered by actual publication date.

The solutions offered, namely using a modified ReceiveFilter or the observation module to set the lastAction field automatically on the public instances will work for us, but I consider it a workaround for the following reasons:

-          This still means content will differ between author and public instances.

-          In addition, it means content will also differ between our 2 public instances, since it can't be guaranteed that the activation will occur at the same time on both nodes.


I'm wondering if anyone else had this problem, and what your solution was?

Is there any way to solve this satisfactorily?
Between multiple subscribers, transactional activation, versioning, workflow-activation with delays, etc... this is actually quite a tricky problem.

Might it be a solution to set the lastAction field before activation, instead of afterwards? Failure to activate would leave the lastAction value "incorrect" on the author system in this case...

Does anyone have any other ideas how this could be better solved?

community edition 4.5.2 + blossom 2.0

Hi,
I wanted to create a quick module using spring with blossom as simple proof of concept.
The module deploys fine, no error but I can't see the template.

I'm using: 
Community Edition 4.5.2
Blossom 2.0

I unziped the community edition and used the tomcat provided (magnolia_control.bat start) and it's working fine with the default templates provided.

I created a module (maven project to create jar) using blossom 2.0 and I created a simple template as proof of concept:

it deploys without error and I can see the module in Configuration/modules in the authoring page but I don't see my template listed, only Home and Redirect that were already there.

What am I missing here? Is it because I used the tomcat provided and the example in there is conflicting with my module?

I really love maven filtering feature, but there is something that I'm missing to succesfully do development with Eclipse. 
After creating a basic maven module structure, I would like to re-use the maven properties inside Magnolia module descriptor:

Magnolia 4.5.1/4.5.2 behind Apache2 with mod_proxy_html -> IE lt 9 css-problem

since update our cms from 4.4.6 -> 4.5.x, we have a problem with IE lt 9 and css.

The Config:
Server: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Apache 2.2.14

Everything works fine, but on the production-system behind the apache proxy, IEs lt 9 has problems with css (or more ...?).

If ProxyHTMLExtended is Off, css is processed but no images (from dms) are loaded.
So, i think the problem is primary in a magnolia js, secondary in apache mod_proxy_html.

Site inheritance

In the documentation for "Inheritable components" (http://documentation.magnolia-cms.com/templates/inheritable-components.html) the structure shown has apparently been changed. Presumably what is shown as "Site Definitions" has been changed to "Site Configuration" but there is no "default" and no "inheritance" content node in the areas under templates there that I see anyway. So for example, I would like to override horizontalNavigation.  How would I do that in this new structure?

I think most useful is this line:

Why is that? ${not empty content.heading} is working I guess, but why isn't content.abstract?

Logo i18n question

Hello Magnolians,

i have a question regarding internationalization and the logo image:

Is there an easy way to have the logo image change by language? Because the straight forward way by setting i18n=true for the logo in the home page dialog doesn't work.

It works only when viewing the home page itself. Not on any sub page.

Reproduction:
- Go to Magnolia demo instance -> admin central
- at "standard-templating-kit/dialogs/pages/home/stkHomeProperties" add i18n=true for logoImg property
- goto home page and add a new logo for "deutsch"
- switch languages
- click sub page
- switch languages

4.5 limited to one single subscriber

Hi,

It is stated on the Magnolia download page that one of the differences between the two editions of Magnolia 4.5 (Enterprise and Community) is that with the Community one, we are "limited to one single subscriber".

Does it mean that with the Community edition we will not be able to have one Author instance updating two or more Public instances of Magnolia? I am talking here about two or more Public instances that have the same content.

[magnolia-user] How to edit ftl?

I'm a little confused about how to look at and/or edit the freemarker (or jsp) for some of the sample templates. For example, I loaded the samples add-on and I can find the "Samples main FTL template" which says the templateScript is /samples/pages/main.ftl. This file doesn't exist separately under webapps so I assume its in the database. But how can I look at it or change it?
