Although I don't think that this feature has any use one of our
customers has asked if it would be possible to automatically generate
PDFs of a Magnolia page. Now I guess we could collect the content of
the page and run it through an XSLT to FOP. But before we start
hacking I just wanted to ask if anyone has already done this...

At the moment I can't upgrade easily, as the system is productive and Upgrading would mean quite an effort for testing the functionality.

What would be the update procedure to update to 3.6.1, is there need to export / import the data?

Cheers
Claudio

It's possibly MAGNOLIA-2032 [1] - can't you update to at least 3.5.4, .
8 would be better, 3.6.1 even more ?

hi list,

after migrating from 3.0 to 3.5.8 we now got the problem, that the superuser
cant activate anything, neither users, pages, documents...

The "activate page" Buton is grey and not clickable.

The superuser has the group "publisher", which has the role "workflow-base"
- is this important?

thx for any hints.

following changes in server.xml:

1. Changed the Connector port from 8080 to 80.

2. Changed <Engine name="Catalina" defaultHost="localhost">

to

<Engine name="Catalina" defaultHost="www.mywebsite.info">

3. Changed <Host name="localhost" appBase="webapps" unpackWARs="true"
autoDeploy="true" xmlValidation="false" xmlNamespaceAware="false">

to

<Host name="www.mywebsite.info" appBase="webapps/magnoliaPublic"
unpackWARs="true" autoDeploy="true" xmlValidation="false"
xmlNamespaceAware="false">

If I try www.mywebsite.info in my browser I cannot see nothing.

Can you please guide how to make my website working? Is it something
more I should do?

Thanks
A.

Hi All

I investigated some more and checked the line mentioned in the NPE stacktrace:

It seems to be caused by call to the object returned by IPSecurityManager.Factory.getInstance(), which means that the getInstance method returns a null reference.

Can anyone think of situations where this could happen?

cheers

Betreff: [magnolia-user] Nullpointer when restarting Magnolia

Hi List

I am running two Magnolia Webs on Magnolia 3.5.2/Tomcat/mysql and experience strange behaviour from time to time when restarting tomcat:

First, everything seems to be normal, I can log into the author instances and work. However after a couple of hours, sometimes days, the author instances stopp working.

Tomcat displays the following error message instead of the magnolia login:

HTTP Status 500

java.lang.NullPointerException
        info.magnolia.cms.security.URISecurityFilter.isAllowed(URISecurityFilter.java:70)
        info.magnolia.cms.security.BaseSecurityFilter.doFilter(BaseSecurityFilter.java:59)

        info.magnolia.cms.filters.MgnlMainFilter.doFilter(MgnlMainFilter.java:195)

I get these quite regularly, and sometimes have to restart like 5 times until it doesn't happen again. This makes installing updates on the server that involve restarts quite painful.

Did anyone experience the same or has an idea how to fix this?

Cheers

XML Metadata Extraction for searching?

Hi all,

Kubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)
Tomcat 6.0.18
Java 1.5.0_15-b04
Latest Xalan jars are in /usr/local/tomcat/lib/
Enterprise Edition 3.6.1 Trial

One of our goals is to store XML data in a repository, and I can't seem to find if Magnolia extracts XML metadata (and then lets a user search that metadata).

Help?

I just opened the bug report 2334 in the jira, because on the
computers of the departmenst of to cantons in Switzerland one cannot
display Mag 3.6.1 pages (neither admin nor public pages!). See
http://jira.magnolia.info/browse/MAGNOLIA-2334

I _think_ it might have something to do with autocompression of
content but I have no real evidence of this suspicion other than the
screenshot attached to the bug report. Has anyone else encountered
this problem with government or "well" protected enterprise networks?
Workarounds?

I can see that in Mag 3.5.8 (which works perfectly on these computers)
there is no "gzip" filter yet. So I assume there actually were changes
in how auto-compression is handled between 3.5.8 and 3.6.1, right?

Changing an author instance into a public instance

Hello,

im trying to create a public instance from my magnoliaAuthor. I
followed the instructions from the Wiki (http://wiki.magnolia.info/display/WIKI/Change+an+Author+instance+into+a+Public+one
) but it is not completely working.

When i point my browser to "localhost:8080/magnoliaPublic" i'm asked
to autenticate. It is only after authentication that i'm forwarded to
the page that i configured in "Config -> modules -> virtualURIMapping -
> default -> toURI = YourStartPage.html"
Furthermore i can still access the adminCentral by entering the direct
URL in the browser (localhost:8080/magnoliaPublic/.magnolia/pages/
adminCentral.html). When i just enter "localhost:8080/magnoliaPublic"
i'm forwarded to the startpage (if im logged in).

Any clue about what i'm missing?
Im using magnolia 3.6.1 on tomcat 6.0.14

regards

internationalization and access to nodes data from templates

Hi all,

i am new to magnolia and there are 2 things i had like to know:

1) Is Magnolia supporting internationalization? if yes how is that
supposed to work?

2) Is it possible to change the value of nodeDatas from template
scripts (JSP)?. I.e. if i have a nodeData named "number" and it has
the value "3". Can i change it somehow to "5" or something else from
my template?

Any help would be appreciated

Best regards

Adding a supertype to a node type at runtime

Dear Magnolians

I'm faced with the problem that HierarchicalUserManager uses nt:folder
to structure the user accounts - and nt:folder nodes do not have a
UUID anymore (since Mag 3.6). Due to the lack of UUID the nodes cannot
be activated anymore. To resolve the problem Grégory proposed:

I'd rather not change HUM because I want my solution to be as much
"Magnolia-compatible" (for future updates) as possible. And I don't
know much about nodetype manipulation, and nothing about nodetype
manipulation at runtime. Can anyone give me a few pointers to get
started?

I found Content.addMixin():
- Is that what I want? Isn't it rather a super type "mix:referencable"
that should be assigned to my nodes (as I do it with custom nodetypes)?
- Where should this be done: When you create the node? This would only
help for new nodes. Should I loop through all nodes and add the mixin
(if that's what I need to do)?

Thanks for the help!

Programmatically rename node

This is a bit embarrassing... but how do you rename a node
programmatically? All I could find is the HierarchyManager.moveTo()
method. But here you need to provide the absolute path. If the user
does not have the right to change anything at the root level, you run
into troubles (unless I'm doing something completely wrong).

I was hoping for a renameTo() method in ContentUtils...

Thanks for any pointers.
