Help with timed popup reminders

<pre>Hi Guys,

I had remind set up and working with both general reminders and time
specific reminders.
I'd get a popup at the start of the day with all the general reminders
and then another popup just before an event, reminding me to do
something right then.

Well, I had to do a reintall and thought that I had everything back in
place.  It seems I don't.

My general reminders are working fine.

I can't get any timed reminders to popup.

If I run the commands listed below the first command works as it
should. The second command does not. Specifically when I hit return in
the terminal, I get nothing. No command prompt, just blank.

Does anyone have an idea of what could cause this?

remind ~/Reminder-files/reminders-general | gxmessage -buttons "OK:1"
-default "OK" -center -font "serif 16" -fg "#231" -bg yellow -wrap
-title "Don't Forget'" -file -

remind -z '-kgmessage -buttons "OK:1" -default "OK" -center -font "serif
16" -fg "#000" -bg "yellow" -wrap -title "HEY!" %s &amp;'
~/Reminder-files/timedreminders

<pre>Hello all,

I use remind to manage a simple todo list (in addition to its
normal usage) and I am looking for a way to skip todo entries
when displaying the calendar overview with -c.

At the moment I'm using the following workaround:

    FSET todo() trigger(iif($CalMode, '2000-01-01', realtoday()))

    REM [todo()] MSG - Todo entry %

Is there a cleaner way to exclude them from the calendar but
still list them when running remind?

<pre>Hi all,

I'm trying (as an excercise mostly) to figure out how to represent my
payday in remind. The way payday works at my company is that it is
the fourth weekday of the month. So to be clear, in June of this year
that would end up being the 6th.

Do I have to use a user defined function for this? I don't see a way to
do it with the ... less programmatic syntax, as - goes backwards and +
means something else entirely.

<pre>Hi, I have been using remind for a few days and I really enjoy it.
I like the output of:
  remind -gaaad -b1 -ms+1

But I would like rather to get the 7 next days STARTING from today (rather
than starting from the beginning of the current week). Of course, I could
use -s+2 and parse the output with some external script or call several
time remind with -a with various 'today date', but I am pretty sure there
is a way to get the expected behaviour from the command line.
Do you see what I could do? Regards, B.

  courtesy of Jonathan Kamens.

- - BUG FIX: Permit compilation with gcc 2.95 (which doesn't allow variable
  declarations after non-declaration statements in a block.)

- - BUG FIX: Several minor documentation errors corrected courtesy of
  Simon Ruderich.

- - BUG FIX: Spurious test harness failure was fixed.

[ANN] Wyrd 1.4.6

<pre>Hello Remind fans,

I've just pushed out version 1.4.6 of Wyrd, a curses-based front-end
for Remind. You can find it at
http://pessimization.com/software/wyrd/ .
(Alternatively, bleeding-edge OCaml users should be able to "opam install
wyrd" when the package is merged in a day or two.)

This is a maintenance release which fixes some corner-case crash bugs and
addresses a build problem with the recently-released OCaml 4.0. The full
changelog follows.

Enjoy,
Paul

-------------------------------------------------------
2013-02-02     Release 1.4.6:

    * Fixed a failure to quote filenames in the editor commands provided by
      the default wyrdrc.

    * Fixed a crash when the terminal is resized while wyrd is executing an
      external editor or browser. (In some environments, this would happen
      every time a reminder file is edited.)

    * Fixed 'configure' errors when compiling with OCaml 4.

    * Added Oasis metadata.

    * Added automatic refresh of the display when reminder files are
modified.

    * Added a backtrace printout for unhandled exceptions.

    * Fixed a parallel-make race conditoin resulting from integration of
      upstream ocaml-curses.

    * Fixed a crash when the terminal is resized.

    * Fixed some crashes which could be triggered by pressing arrow keys or
      entering non-printable characters from the "quick add" entry field.

    replaced F-18 with Scientific Linux 6.3 on this one, both protest

    The server seems to be mounted and I can "ls" the files:

        /mnt/BOX48/notecase/notecase/stuff.ncd

    Setting SELinux to permissive does not seem to make any difference.
    It looks like the remind file is damaged ...

    I don't know that this is enough information to work with but I am
    lost at this point.

    Any suggestion what to look at next will be appreciated.

<pre>Hi,

I noticed that after upgrading the remind software from 03.01.07 to
03.01.12 a while ago, the reported sunset times shifted by 6 minutes.
The times have never exactly matched other sources (such as the NOAA.gov
/ usno.navy.mil websites, among others), but the latest version is
further off than before. As an example, running "remind -arqh" with the
following input file:

    SET $LatDeg 39
    SET $LatMin 42
    SET $LatSec 0

    SET $LongDeg 104
    SET $LongMin 54
    SET $LongSec 0

    banner %
    msg Sunset [today()]:  [sunset()] %

produces the following results:

  * Remind 03.01.07:   Sunset 2013-01-27:  17:12
  * Remind 03.01.12:   Sunset 2013-01-27:  17:18
  * usno.navy.mil (same date):    17:14

Any explanations or suggestions for a patch/fix would be greatly
appreciated.

<pre>I like that I can us rem2ps to format a printed Remind calendar in
different sizes and formats. Does anyone know of a way to print a monthly
view, landscape, 11x8.5, divided over two pages, such as you would find in
a monthly planner? If I just print a monthly calendar in landscape mode and
cut it in half and put it in a "Junior" sized binder, the lack of a center
margin cuts the fourth day in half.

What I need is a margin between the fourth day of the week and the fifth
day, plus an extra "day" of space on the end for notes or small calendars.

help calculating event dates

<pre>
Greetings. Long-time semi-power Remind user with a new problem.

A friend (Jeff) and I each hold parties on alternating Fridays. That was
an easy reminder:
rem 20 oct 2006 skip *14 msg party night

Now I need to cut back my parties. His party will continue to be held
on the same alternating-Fridays that it's always been. My party will
be either the first Friday or the second Friday of each month, whichever
is not Jeff's night.

So I'm looking for a way to
(*) calculate (but not display) the nights of Jeff's party
(*) check the first Friday of the month
(*) if it doesn't match Jeff's party, then it's my party
(*) othewise, check the second Friday

There's probably an easier way to describe the pattern, which I don't see,
which might help figuring out my calculations easier. For example
(*) check the first 2 Fridays of each month (Friday where date &lt;15)
(*) skip Jeff's Friday

or something else that I don't see.

Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated.

<pre>Greetings fellow penguins;

I'm generating html (via cron every 10 minutes) using the provided
rem2html script.

I noticed the rem-default.css stylesheet contains a td.rem-today class.
However, the HTML (which does use other classes in this file) does not
use this class. I was hoping to change the background color of the TODAY
cell to light yellow, so it stands out a little on the white background.

Also, it would be fantastic if there were td.rem-past and td.re-future
classes so that calendar days that have passed might be a shade darker.

<pre>
So I'm playing around with Tags, and trying to decide if they will
do anything for me or not.

Anyway, the man page says:
       -y Causes Remind to synthesize a tag for any reminder that lacks a
              TAG clause.

but given this command
rem 31 dec tag birthday msg dad turns [since(1946)]

remind -s1 -y tells me
2012/12/31 * birthday,__syn__98535ac0ce14beb3f47803a94750357d * * dad turns 66

The point is -- remind -y synthesizes a tag for *all* reminders, not
just the ones that lack a TAG clause.

Is this a bug? or a feature? or a mistake in the documentation? or just
my misunderstanding?

Thanks.
