how to resample after a LADSPA plugin ?

<pre>Hello,

I have the following command line:

ecasound -D -z:nodb -f 16,2,44100 -i stdin -eli:1030 -b 4096 -ev -x -f s16_le,2,44100 -o alsahw,0,0

which works as expected. It is a part of longer chain, so data is piped into stdin.

I want to do two things:

1) replace 's16_le,2,44100' with 's16_le,2,88200', i.e to make ALSA device work with 88200Hz sample rate;

2) insert resampling just before it, but _after_ the LADSPA plugin, i.e. after '-eli:1030'.

How can I do this ?

Thanks,
  Sergei.

Midi Controled playlist.

<pre>I'm not very well versed in ecasound and I'm looking for help in solving a
problem. What I'd like to do is set up a live rig for playing shows with a
backing track that allows me more flexability in a performance. The goal
would be to have a playlist that had each section of the song, as a backing
track, and, if I hit nothing plays the song from beginning to end, but if I
interact with it I could replay a section or more ideal jump around to
other tracks. So if I feel like taking an extended solo or repeating a
chorus becuase it just feels right I can, more likely I messed up an need
another chance to hit a lyric cue. I have an fcb-1010 midi controller that
I would like to use for sending midi messages. Is this possible in ecasound
or ecaplay? Any advice would be much appreciated.

ai-index-select, ai-remove and ao-index-select, ao-remove not working properly

<pre>Quick assessment of the situation, then my complete session...

It seems that when there are multiple input objects of the same name or
multiple output objects of the same name, 'ai-index-select', 'ai-remove'
and 'ao-index-select', 'ao-remove' removes the wrong object.

It does (not) seem to have this confusion when the input objects have
different names or the output objects have different names.

Also, it seems (possibly) that in certain situations, it seems to think
it removed the object from a different chain instead of the chain that
it actually removed it from.

Here's my session...

Even though it improperly removed the input and output objects (and

Also... when there are input objects that that have the same name mixed
with input objects that have different names, you get the wrong input
objects being removed in a more random way. This happens for output
objects that also have similar names mixed with different names.

Unfortunately, this has halted my new approach of deleting tracks or
effects in a more robust way in my front end. I could just stick with
adding a whole chainsetup each time I delete a track (chain) or effect
(chain), but it's not as robust as doing it chain by chain.

Thanks,
Rocco

Midi controller for Ecasound

<pre>Hi there,
not sure if this would be an appropriate channel for this, but I am
currently writing a midi controller for the purpose of controlling ecasound
effects in real-time using a GUI. It is working, but I am running into a
bit of a problem getting ecasound to connect to it automatically without
using aconnect. I am using Elementary as the widget set from E17 (
enlightenment.org), and have attached the source code to this email. It
can be built as follows:
gcc main.c -o slider -lasound `pkg-config elementary --cflags --libs`
It currently just sends CC events to channel 1, controller 1.

I am using the following ecasound command:

ecasound -i test.wav -o alsahw -ea:100 -km:1,1,200,1,1
-Md:alsaseq,midicontroller

I am grateful for any thoughts on what I am doing wrong in my code.

loop device with eci/iam

<pre>Friends,

I'm converting some command line ecasound to python scripts and I'm
having trouble with two things. Here are the two problems, and a
snippet of python code I'm trying to use for it:

1)Mixing several chains to one chain as in the example from the docs,
particularly the all line, but more generally how to mix two or more
chains to a third chain:

ecasound -c \
-a:1 -i drums.wav \
-a:2 -i synth-background.wav \
-a:3 -i bass-guitar_take-2.ewf \
-a:4 -i brass-house-lead.wav \
-a:all -o alsa

2)The loop device functionality, not looping like repeating a sample
but copying the output of one chain or the mix from multiple chains to
one or more chains, as in this example from the docs(I've shortened it
a little to focus it):

-a:1 -i drums.wav \
-a:2 -i synth-background.wav \
-a:1,2 -o loop,1 \
-a:5,6 -i loop,1 \
-a:5 -o alsa \
-a:6 -o current-mix.wav

Here is a snippet of the script I've been playing with to try to get
this working with my input with comments for where I've been trying to
get this working:

from pyeca import *
e = ECA_CONTROL_INTERFACE()
e.command("cs-add play_chainsetup")
e.command("c-add 1st_chain")
e.command("ai-add lead1.wav")
e.command("c-add 2nd_chain")
e.command("ai-add shots1.wav")

#I've tried to add 'loop,1' to the third chain in ai-add; of
e.command("c-add 3rd_chain")
???? output from mix of chains 1 and 2 to two outputs, a file and alsa
e.command("ao-add ")
e.command("cs-connect")
e.command("run")
#I've gotten all kinds of -a chains from my attempts with this
cs-save, but none with more than one chain name/number after the -a
e.command("cs-save")

So how do I get the output from 1st_chain, and 2nd_chain to 3rd_chain,
and more generally just mixing any combination of chains to another or
multiple chains?

thanks,

Will

cut from that position, and then save the result?

<pre>Hi,

Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can split a mono track into a
stereo track with each side (left/right) as a complete opposite of the
other?

So for example if the left track has audio at 200Hz the right track will
not have audio at 200Hz, and so on up the frequency range alternating for
each track.

Something like a parametric eq with opposite values for each output track.

   I just came across an error, processing a filename, which had a comma. It
said: unable to handle filenames with coma. this must have been ecanormalize
or ecafixdc from a script.
   I renamed the original file and processed again, but it might be nice to not
have this issue for a start. If it's not too difficult, could this be fixed? I
know, that coma is a seperator for parameters in all operations, but usually
it should be shell-escaped or quoted.
   Warm regards

Maybe someone has precompiled binaries or can help me to compile?
I heard compiling on osx should not be a big deal...
Thanks in andvance,

<pre>
Hi,
apologies for incorrect nomenclature of procedures

Problem: wanting to launch ecasound engine in interactive mode from php, with jack_transport controlling playback.

I have a php script that calls shell scripts which trigger playback of ecasound correctly. Ecasound is using jack, which I have invoked as www-data.
scripts such as

#!/bin/bash
# play
set -x on
TERM=linux
export TERM
ecasound -i /var/www/upload/*.wav -o jack,system
set -x off

work fine, both from terminal (as www-data) and exec from php generated web page:

else if
      ($_GET['action'] == "play") {
         $command = '/var/www/TRANSPORT/linuxplay.sh';
      //$output = passthru($command . ' 2&gt;&amp;1 &amp;');
$output = exec($command . ' 2&gt;&amp;1', $output_array, $return_val);

so far so good, but the following script:

#!/bin/bash
# engine_start
set -x on
TERM=linux
export TERM
ecasound -c -i /var/www/upload/*.wav -o jack,system -G:jack,hereiam,recv -E engine-launch -K ;
set -x off

only works invoked from terminal (as www-data). That is to say I see the connection "hereiam" in qjackctl's connection kit, and jack_transport (again, invoked by www-data) controls it just fine.

Its php5, linux mint 12. My var/log/apache/error log gives:

+ set -x off
+ TERM=linux
+ export TERM
+ ecasound -c -i /var/www/upload/Fournobletruths-03.wav -o jack,system -G:jack,hereiam,recv -E engine-launch -K

Cannot lock down 82241434 byte memory area (Cannot allocate memory)

any help appreciated

Playback and buffering on sound cards

<pre> Hi all

I have been using ecasound for quite some time now for enabling my wife
to dictate medical reports and it has worked superbly.

Now I have a need to write transcription software (that is playback
controlled by foot pedals so a typist can transcribe them.)

I have two problems - which are related to each other.

Firstly ecasound gives me incomplete playback - which I believe is at
least in part due to buffering on the sound card. I can get around that
by adding "silence" to the end of the audio files to be transcribed
(although a fix would be rather nice). In my case the "lost" audio time
is significant because I have a need to keep the size of the audio files
to a minimum and so am recording 1 channel, 8 bits and 11,025KHz. "Lost"
time depends upon the computer being used (presumably the sound card) but
is typically 50 to 100 seconds. At CD quality recording we would only be
talking say 10 seconds or less and for 5.1 etc even less. I would be
interested in knowing if others have this same experience and its not just
some setup fault on my part.

For transcription I need the ability to pause the audio, rewind a little
and continue when requested. This means I need to be able to find out
the position I am at. (Works fine when recording). But in playback
mode the various get-position functions get not the position of what has
been played back but the position in what has been sent to the sound card
- in other words for much of the time it is ahead of what has been played
by the contents of the buffer. I rather desperately need a way around
this. In the short term I might have to do my own separate timing
outside of ecasound. I did write some code interacting with ALSA
directly (doesn't seem to want to run on Ubuntu 12.04.1) and overcame the
buffering issue by using the ALSA API function snd_pcm_delay - this was
the interface code I wrote (for Harbour):

HB_FUNC( ALSA4H_PCM_DELAY )
{
   snd_pcm_sframes_t delayp;
   hb_retni( snd_pcm_delay( ( ( snd_pcm_t * ) hb_parptr( 1 ) ),
   hb_storni( delayp, 2 );
}

I guess that I've played with ALSA enough to know just how great it is to
have ecasound and the ECI but an ECI command to get the delay would be just
wonderful. Maybe it already exists or there is a solution to this issue
but if so I haven't been able to find it. I only wish I had the
capability to contribute such an enhancement myself.

This is not only important for transcription but would be appreciated
when dictating as one could then go back and replay what one has just said
and optionally record over something that you want to change.

Thanks for reading and thanks Kai for ecasound.

Regards
Doug

Multiband dynamics processing

<pre>Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has put together a chain setup to do multiband
compression/limiting, similar to the sox mcompand function? I know that
ecasound contains all of the necessary bits &amp; pieces, but I've never worked
with the ecasound bandpass filters &amp; don't want to reinvent anything if I
don't have to.

I'd love to replicate this sox command (with jack inputs/outputs, which is
why I'm not using sox):

play track1.wav gain -3 sinc 8000- 29 100 mcompand \
     "0.005,0.1 -47,-40,-34,-34,-17,-33" 100 \
     "0.003,0.05 -47,-40,-34,-34,-17,-33" 400 \
     "0.000625,0.0125 -47,-40,-34,-34,-15,-33" 1600 \
     "0.0001,0.025 -47,-40,-34,-34,-31,-31,-0,-30" 6400 \
     "0,0.025 -38,-31,-28,-28,-0,-25"

Thanks for any suggestions or assistance

Bugreport ecasound v2.8.1

<pre>Hi Guys,

I'm not quite sure if this a bug, but I noticed a strange bwehavior of
ecasound. I wanted to call ecasound like this:

ecasound -t:15 -a:1 -i:louds.wav -f:16,48,44100 -o:jack,CLIENT1 -a:2
-i:mic.wav -f:16,10,44100 -o:jack,CLIENT2 -a:3 -i:jack,CLIENT3 -o:error.wav

But what a actually did was:

ecasound -t:15-a:1 -i:louds.wav -f:16,48,44100 -o:jack,CLIENT1 -a:2
-i:mic.wav -f:16,10,44100 -o:jack,CLIENT2 -a:3 -i:jack,CLIENT3 -o:error.wav

please note the missing blank in "-t:15-a:1". However, the ecasound
output didn't show something unusual:

However, my self-written application CLIENT1, did not work at all. After
some bugging I found out that ecasound acutally sent NaN values to
CLIENT1, breaking all further processing stages. Is in an intended
behavior of ecasound to send Nan values under certain conditions?

Martin

copp-set causes pop with transport running

<pre>Hi,

Nama fades volume on transport start/stop
and track mute/unmute by issuing copp-set
20 times per second.

Previously the sound changed smoothly.
Recently S. Massy reported a pop on each vol or pan
parameter change, and zipper noise during
fades that use copp-set.

I verified this with the following setup:

# ecasound chainsetup file

# general
-b:256 -r:50 -z:nointbuf -z:db,100000 -n:"/home/jroth/nama/test0619/Setup.ecs" -X -z:noxruns -z:nopsr -z:mixmode,sum

-a:3 -f:s16_le,2,44100 -i:null

# audio outputs
-a:1 -f:s16_le,2,44100 -o:alsahw,0,0,0
-a:3 -f:f32_le,2,44100 -o:loop,Master_in

# chain operators and controllers
-a:1 -epp:50.00 -eadb:0.00,0.00
-a:3 -eli:1047,220.00,1.00 -epp:50.00 -eadb:0.00,0.00

The log snippet below gives the sequence of ECI commands,
which is in the form of a bursts of commands
separated by 50ms intervals.

The numbers in brackets are milliseconds.

I wonder if this could be due to a change in Ecasound, or
perhaps is the result of some configuration error.

Would appreciate any troubleshooting hints.

Regards,

Joel
