    <description>&lt;pre&gt;
If that. There are currently 81 CPAN packages in the 64-bit distro
after Ken added biber's deps, and a few dozen more may be needed to fill
in what was provided by perl_vendor. Even Ports provides "only" 133
CPAN packages to support all the software therein, so it really
shouldn't be that big of a number in all.

I'm not sure to what you're referring, Reini, but this can and does work.

We don't need bundles, and we certainly don't want to hide packages from
users. Even a couple hundred packages in their own category should work
just fine.

According to whom?

That may work for LFS-type scenarios, but distributions can't say "oh,
BTW, this 'biber' program you want to use needs a few dozen Perl
libraries, go get them yourself from CPAN". Perl modules that are
dependencies of other packages need to be properly packaged for the
distribution to work OOTB.

Patching really isn't so much the problem here; adding new modules, and
keeping things updated is.

python and python3 here are false positives; just remove them by hand

Ditto.

Also, java-ecj really should be added to the distro, but that needs a
thread for itself.

The rest of these look good.

I've been using my own build of 4.7.3 without complaint, but it won't
get any more testing until it goes stable. Therefore, I think we should
stabilize it (and its deps) now.

As for the logistics, how about you put this in a temporary location
(not under release) that I can access, and then I can deal with all the
necessary transitioning.

When do you plan to roll a new gcc package? I would want to re-compile
these with 4.7.3 just to be sure before going stable (it isn't strictly
necessary, so if you'd rather skip that we could do so) and at that time
update gmp to 5.1.2 (which mainly fixes a bug for Bulldozer that doesn't
affect the Cygwin build). You wouldn't need to re-build gcc with the
newer versions since these all have the same library versions.

Achim.

If 4.7.3 is to be considered stable, I need all the cooperation from all
the gcc deps maintainers, clearly gcc-4.7.2 experimental is stable
enough since I am able to build 4.7.3 with it.

All the new ppl/mpc/mpfr/gmp that were marked experimental needs to be
switched to stable at the same time gcc-4.7.x or else gcc would be
broken for awhile without those DLLs.

Whom are you asking? Not me, I hope. If so, whatever you guys think is
right, is right, as long as gcc just works and the Cygwin DLL builds.
As a sidepoint, you won't get as much testing as you like as long as the
stuff is in "test". Most people don't install test versions anyway.
