mail with a link to the guidelines when you joined the list. And there
have been numerous discussions going on with people requesting others
not to top post. So, please stop posting. The correct way of replying

If you keep top posting, you will probably lose potential answers

just ignore the mail and there the OP loses a reply. Thanks

Even though many of you may already know the difference between Free
Software and Open Source software, I would like to clarify further in
simple terms and also share some thoughts as to why this difference is
important.

“Free Software compels the derivatives to be Free Software, whereas Open
Source software relaxes the freedom to restrict the derivatives”

What does this mean?
Open Source projects may give rise to the possibility of stopping
redistribution of its derivatives. This is because Open Source ideology
permits it. In the case of a free software license, there would be no way
to stop the distribution of its derivatives.

Thus, we see that a project that has been created for the community by the
community can be restricted and commercialized in such a way that its

when users click say abc.com/mediawiki they should be prompted for
authentication after that users will have normal access to mediawiki.

If this can be done through LDAP can you please provide the possiblites.

you need to develop the instinct to stay away from them , IMHO you know

Wow, I am surprised by their reaction, perhaps this is their tactic to
"squeeze" the maximum out of you.

Have they given you a number that they feel is the "right" price for
this box (HW+SW)?

A suggestion - give the college the hardware spec and let them source
it from the "preferred" vendor and charge your reasonable professional
fee to install the packages. Make it clear that all hardware
warranty issues - they will have to work out with their vendor.
Power to them if the total cost comes out lower than your quotation.

This is one of the methods I use when a few of my clients play hard
ball with the cost. Do not undersell your value added effort +
service.
