    <link>http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.org.user-groups.linux.gnhlug.announce/635</link>
<description>The monthly meeting of CentraLUG, the Concord/Central NH GNHLUG chapter,
happens the first Monday of most months at the New Hampshire Technical
Institute's Library, room 146, at 7 PM. Next month's meeting is on
October 6th at 7 PM. Directions and maps are available at
http://www.centralug.org Open to the public. Free admission. Tell your
friends.

At this meeting, Arc Riley will give us a preview of the beta version of
Ubuntu 8.10, "Intrepid Ibex"

About the presentation
======================

Ubuntu has been making inroads and gaining mindshare for the last couple
of years. Aggressive campaigning, slick graphics, and a clear guiding
philosophy of "Linux for Human Beings" have combined to make Ubuntu a
popular distribution for home and novice users, laptop users and
hobbyists interested in the cutting edge. Based loosely on the Debian
platform, it combines the strengths of the Debian tools with an
aggressive "release early, release often" schedule and helpful and
friendly community support.

or they'll lend you one, and show you how to go out and do some
mapping, and then get the data in to the OpenStreetMap database. They
have one coming up in Boston this weekend. These are informal events,
with no explicit time commitment, and often a social element / beer

<description>As you've probably seen, our featured speaker's plans have

give him the stage again later...

And this is still PySIG. And we do get together to talk
about Python.

Kent suggested that we
and that does sound like a good idea. We can get together and
discuss, round-table, the new goodies coming our way in Python
2.6.

And (perhaps) develop a wishlist of which of those goodies
we'd like Kent to talk to us about in greater depth. (How
would that sound, Kent?)

We might also have a testimonial from a new Python user.

As well as the usual announcements, arguments over data types,
gotchas, success stories, a report on Software Freedom Day,
and more.

We shall certainly have cookies. They are a feathery chocolate
concoction, and will go GREAT with milk. I know these things.
(Thanks to Alex for offering to bring the milk!)

Review your "../whatsnew/2.6.html", bring questions, and I'll
see you all on Thursday!

    <description>Who : Brian Turnbull
What : REST - REpresentational State Transfer in HTTP
Date : Mon 13 Oct 2008
Time : 7 PM to 9 PM
Where: Room 301, Morse Hall, UNH, Durham, NH

Brian Turnbull will present the second part of his series on HTTP:
"RESTful Web Services". REpresentational State Transfer is the
theoretical underpinning of HTTP/1.1. Brian will explain what REST
is, present examples of existing web services using REST, and also
cover the practical application of REST and the Atom Publishing
Protocol in creating a web service.

The author of this announcement found Brian's first presentation on
HTTP to be quite interesting; there's a lot more hidden behind that
"http://" than most people realize. I learned more than I expected in
September, and I expect to learn more in October. According to
Wikipedia, REST abstracts everything into resources which are uniquely
identifiable and accessible via a standard protocol which is
stateless, cacheable, and layered, leading to a robust, scalable,
distributed system. </description>

Who : Everybody
What : Linux suggestions and improvements
Where: Martha's Exchange
Day : Thur 21 Aug **Tomorrow**
Time : 6:00 PM for grub, 7:30 PM for discussion

:: Overview

The kernel is done. Who would need features beyond KDE 3.4? Ubunto
installation is the acme of perfection. Should we stop developing
Linux and just use it?

Aside from applications, what new Linux features do you need? What
flaws bug you the most? Does code size and operating speed mean enough
these days to justify recoding? Does Vista have anything Linux should
add?

Should the United Nations (or maybe NATO) decree that all new
computer designs include a debugged Linux installer, as is done for
Microsoft products?

Come along for a pleasant summer evening in good company. Ponder
the future and what we can do about it.

 &gt;&gt;&gt; RSVP to Jim Kuzdrall for dinner to assure adequate seating. &lt;&lt;&lt;
!!! If you are not a "Regular Attendee" (50%), please let me know. !!!

"BOSS (Build your Own Search Service) is different – it's a truly open
API with as few rules and limitations as possible. With BOSS, developers
and start-ups now have the technology and infrastructure to build next
