Since the Flash SDK is free, there are a number of options available. This
is a great list of open source tools for Flash Development:
http://ntt.cc/2010/05/14/11-open-source-ide-tools-compilers-for-adobe-flash.html

But, it begs the question, why do you want to do anything with
ActionScript, anyway? I thought Flash wasn't well supported on Linux
recently. But, aside from that, in the long run, it's going to be replaced
by HTML5. Even Adobe acknowledges that.

<pre>Ok unless you have been asleep and have anything to do with design but
don't keep up with tech news, you know that this week Adobe flew the
coop on giving solid media installs, and now wants SaaS to be their only
business model.

I can only offer a few tools to be true replacements to the Adobe core
products, since I don't use any anymore!
If you can contribute to a list of open source replacements, please do-
this is an opportunity

Ok this is a lame start:
Gimp
Cinelerrra

I just think there is a growing need for a movement saying "we don't
WANT the cloud!" give me the software installer!"
I feel analogous trend of system software being put on a partition
instead of giving you boot cd/dvd media. You call Dell and Apple? Nothing!

<pre>i agree with Robert Parkhurst that the two that matter (among those who are
knowledgeable in the field) are the RHCSA/RHCE/RHCA and the LPIC 1/2/3.
However, since you occasionally find a hiring manager impressed with certs
he may know nothing about, there's a neat way to leverage one set of exams
into multiple credentials:

1) CompTiA, a few years ago, tired of having their Linux+ cert be a
laughingstock, partnered with LPI so that now the exams used to certify you
for the Linux+ are actually the LPIC1 exams. So, take the exams for the
Linux +, pass them, and you're granted the CompTIA Linux+ certification.

2) LPI honors the outcome of exams administered under CompTIAs care. So,
give CompTIA permission to notify LPI of your scores, and LPI will grant
you the LPIC1 certification.

3) As already noted, SUSE accepts the LPIC1 exams as acceptable measures of
your certifiability for their CLA certification. Fill out a form on their
site giving them permission to verify your status with LPI, and they'll
grant</pre>

It's been my experience that two certifications really matter for
Linux: RedHat and LPIC. Of those, I think RedHat is the more desired
one.

<pre>The Ubuntu Certified Professional exam was an extension to the LPIC-1
certification. It seemed to be bundled in a special offer at one time
(it is actually designated LPIC-199) So you could claim to have both
UCP and LPIC certs ( reasonable if you went on to get LPIC-2).

Check out this announcement:
http://www2.lpi.org/eng/about_lpi/what_s_new/lpi_and_canonical_offer_special_promotion_on_exams
Now, if you follow any of the links in that page, or try to search
either LPI or Canonical's website for the cert, it totally disappeared.
No mention. Nada.

I did some Googling around but couldn't find an explanation. Mostly
Google just finds copies of the study guide being sold.
Anyone have any first hand info? Did they just pull the rug out from
underneath this?
I suspect they incorporated it into the LPIC altogether.

<pre>Hi all, I hope all goes well with Mr. Dowding.
I am sorry I haven't been to meetings in the last few months. Been a bit
preoccupied with work, and helping others... and just got out of the
weekly habit of showing up after the holidays last year. I hope to come
back soon.

While I have been looking at the LPIC certs still, I think I have
stupidly been ignoring cloud/virtualization integration (I knew it last
year). I read an article last week about how our skillsets can "go the
way of the dinosaur" It said our I.T. talent is gone after 2 years of
usability. Pardon my french but this scared the crap out of me- my last
I.T. job was a whopping 12 years ago and I do I.T. at home instead.
WOW. I made a failed attempt at making a Cisco study group side venture
a few years ago... perhaps a virtualization/cloud thing would be a nice
study group for us? It would certainly be more relevant to Linux.

I want to thank Robert Parkhurst, Paul Elliot, our board members. I also
want to thank Charles Wyble </pre>

I am that old decrepit fellow who showed up a couple of weeks ago at the

standing for long periods is difficult.

I plan to get an handicap plackard Thursday afternoon when my daughter
gets off work to take me to the VA and the DMV.

I have moved here from Anchorage, Alaska, where I was a member of the
Friday Night Linux (FNL) and past member of the Alaska Linux Users Group
(AKLUG).

I sure will appreciate a ride. Thanks in advance.
