I have a cluster of machines that I need to boot over pxe, but cannot due to the fact that they are running linuxbios and etherboot 5.1.7. Is there a way to boot an elf that is compatible with etherboot 5.1.7 that would then allow me to boot the pxe image? I know that etherboot starting with version 5.4 supported booting over pxe.

Hi,

I have a Western Digital 8 bit ISA WD8003W. I want to use this card to
boot from the ROM. I have an EPROM burner and I have a 27C256 eprom. I
cannot get Rom-o-matic or the etherboot image maker to not give me an error
when I select the NS8390:WD. Can somebody help me make a compliant boot
rom? I have no idea how to set up the server side either. I may not have
all of the right memory settings, etc, but I can get the network to work
when I load DOS drivers.

Thanks in advance.

Wondering if anyone has experience booting into a FreeBSD

there any pointers to documentation or blogs from those with

I've made a raw disk image with latest syslinux and ipxe setup on it.

http://co-lo.night-shade.org.uk/~tim/ipxe.syslinux.img.gz

It is a bootable 16MB raw disk image, which if you write to a memory
stick you can boot from it.

There is a file on there called script.ipxe which currently has an
example of an iscsi boot script but you can edit to do want you need.

To write the disk out under windows use http://www.winimage.com/

It's compressed with gzip so you will need to use something like 7zip to
extract it.

Michael has recently committed a change to allow scripts to be called
via initrd, you can now simply place your iPXE script as a file within
the filesystem, and modify (iso|sys|pxe)linux.cfg to include "APPEND
initrd=script.ipxe".

The commit is here:

Hi all!

I have a special need for a boot media that can be used in a multiple
subnet environment without using DHCP options to find the boot server. We
have the PXE server option configured on most subnets to find a network OS
for our thin clients. I am implementing a new imaging server and this
normally works via DHCP so I need to be able to pxe boot to this. My
question is, would it be possible to boot to a flash drive with gpxe or
something similar installed and have it request an IP address via DHCP but
then have a statically configured entry for finding the boot server? Thanks
in advance and sorry if this is a dumb question!

I'm trying to build some sort of small web interface, where the user will
have options which Linux distribution he/she wants to install on his VM
without letting him getting any PXE messages or menu selection, so he clicks
"CentOS 5", "CentOS 6" and the VM boots to PXE, and it will use kickstart to
install the selected OS.

I tried to search and all I could come up was menus which can be displayed
upon boot and the user selecting the item.

Is there a way to pass to PXE any parameter so I can install X or Y?

Thanks

Hi,
I'm trying to use gPxe in our lab environment and running into some issues.

I was getting a DHCP connection timeout error as discussed in the following thread:
http://markmail.org/message/goh7mh4kctkc77dw

After following Thomas's instructions (building gPxe from source and setting a sleep time) I got over that issue.
I'd to make the changes as highlighted on Pxe chainloading (Etherboot) to break the infinite loop: http://etherboot.org/wiki/pxechaining (Using windows DHCP server).

Here's my exact setup:

1. Built gPxe from source with a sleep time and HTTPS support.

2. Copied over the undionly.kpxe files to my TFTP server.

3. Set up DHCP server (Windows) with pxe chainloading to avoid the infinite loop as discussed on http://etherboot.org/wiki/pxechaining.

4. My DHCP server points to the tramp file which has

#!gpxe

set filename https://<server<https://%3cserver> IP>/vmw/rbd/trampchain https://<server<https://%3cserver> IP>/vmw/rbd/tramp

5. The file at the above url

We use this hardware with an older version of gPXE, but the newest
version of gPXE fails in the same way that you describe. I don't know
if it is related but I had the same problem with the same hardware
with the kernel earlier, and it was just a .config issue on my side
(didn't know that ACPI needed to be enabled...):
