If you haven't yet received a response, you might try the revived

Cyrus, thanks for your thoughts. Providing a free, legal V4 to people is
certainly "a reasonable service" by any measure, but if you prefer not to
have donations at this time, so be it. If and when the time comes where you
think it makes sense and would be helpful, I'm sure you'll find a willing
Mulberry community out here. Best of luck in your continuing efforts with

Cyrus, now that the good news has sunk in overnight, I have another comment.
I suggest you set up a PayPal account for donations. There have been
numerous requests from folks in this group who are quite willing to pay for
a license to version 4. Some of them said they have V3 and were distressed
that there was no way to purchase a license for V4. It could be suggested
that anyone downloading 4.0.5 provide a small donation at the PayPal site.
Some guidelines could be recommended. I paid US$17.97 for the V3 to V4
upgrade back in June of 2005, and think that it was quite a bargain at that
price. Perhaps a suggested donation of US$20 makes sense, although people
would be free to donate whatever they could afford, including zero. Folks
would use their own judgment in terms of multiple licenses and/or new
licenses (as opposed to upgrades). And I'm sure there are many of us who
already purchased V4 who would be willing to provide a donation to help your
efforts. In fact, you indicated in your mail that

Hi folks,
Finally, after much effort, I have regained the rights to Mulberry and am making it
available for free as of today. See:

<http://www.mulberrymail.com>

Some things to note:

1) It is free to anyone - no registration codes needed.

2) A new v4.0.5 version is available on the website. This simply removes the registration
requirement and updates copyright notices etc.

3) There is no formal support for the product as there was before. Instead 'community'
support via mailing lists and other resources will be used. I will make a best effort to
respond in a timely fashion to issues, but see note (4) below.

4) This effort is purely a personal one on my part - all the work I do on this is being done
in my (limited) spare time.

5) It is free but not open source. That's an issue that we can discuss moving forward...

6) Also, major new features/revisions etc are out of the question right now (though I have
a few pet projects that were being worked on before and which I will likely continue). Fixes

Joan, I should have pointed out that it's important for the folder names and
locations to be the same on your new computer as on the old one. For
example, your preferences file contains info on the folder where your
disconnected email is stored, such as:

Preferences.Accounts.Disconnected Directory="E:\\Mulberry-disco\\"

So if your Mulberry email folder was "E:\Mulberry-disco\" on your old
computer, make sure it's "E:\Mulberry-disco\" on the new one. FYI, the
preferences file is plain text that you can view in a text editor.

Btw, I know the technique I suggested in my last email works, because it's
what I use all the time. I keep all of my Mulberry disconnected/synchronized
email *and* my preferences file on a PCMCIA hard disk card that I always
assign as the "J:" drive. I do this so that I can pop the PC Card out of one
notebook computer and into another without skipping a beat -- no need to
transfer data! All I need is the Mulberry program on the other machine and
the shortcut I run is "J:\Mul

Joan,

What I have done is this:
Open Mulberry (after the 'clean install')
It will not know anything about my Preferences or accounts when it starts.
Give basic info (who I am default address)
Then when the Full Preference screen comes up, there will be a 'load' on
the right side
Click it and browse to the saved .mbp file
Save and close
Restart and all should be fine.

Joan, sorry for not jumping in earlier, but my day job got in the way. I
wanted to comment when someone suggested just copying over the Mulberry
folders, but I recollect that someone else pointed out what a bad idea that
is. Back in the good old DOS days, that was fine, but these days, nearly all
software puts critical info in the registry, and you can't properly install
a piece of software by simply copying over the folders it creates -- you
must run the Setup program for it (or export the registry settings, which is
a crazy thing to do if you have the Setup program).

Anyway, I'm guessing that Mulberry is not using your saved preferences file

If I recall correctly the preferences on windows are actually stored
in the registry.

To restore saved preferences you need to open the preferences dialog and
load the preferences file. Then click the "set as default" button to store
them in the registry. (the button may have slightly different name).

Make sure you use the save as option on the source machine to ensure
you have the current preferences.
