This has been implemented a long time ago with DSPAM support.

 Hello,

 I'd like to do something to make attachments immediately visible instead
of having to scroll down to the bottom of the message to see them (see
http://mahogany.tt-solutions.com/cgi-bin/mbugs/show_bug.cgi?id=615). The
question is what?

 We could just show the presence of attachments in the header, e.g. display
a "notification bar" saying "There are N attachments in this message". This
would eat valuable vertical screen space and still wouldn't allow you to
actually do anything with these attachments however. So an alternative
would be to show a vertical bar with icons for all the attachments along
the right edge. If it could be used to show some more controls (e.g. I'm
thinking about a manual text/HTML toggle there), it would be even better.

 Any other ideas?

We actually use wxStandardPaths::GetUserConfigDir() + "\\Mahogany" under
Windows since 2005 or thereabouts so I don't think this is still relevant but
I've simplified this code a bit more in 7b3a048.

As for "mailboxes", there is an option for the mailboxes location but it
couldn't be set in the GUI for some reason. I've added it now (6712f8a) so to
have an extra prefix it would be enough to enter "mailboxes" into it (it
couldn't be a relative path before but I changed this in 400a6c6).

This obviously makes no sense :-( I don't see how could it get this value.

Would it be possible that you have a bad build somehow? If not, the only way to
go forward I see is to debug this by breaking on EditorContentPart ctor (where
the encoding is set) and checking where does it come from.

doesn't fail for me because "encodingPart" is UTF-8. What is it in your case?

Yes, I did select Latin-1.

Maybe there is something in the options of the folder where you have this
message that breaks it? Does the bug happen if you copy the message to another
folder?

Maybe you have default Language set? Do you see the bug if you select
Language|ISO8859-1 before preview?

Unfortunately I don't know what can I do about this, I don't see such crashes
here and without knowing why did it crash and where (i.e. without the crash
dump) I just have no idea about the reason for it, sorry. I'll make a new
"official" 0.68 release soon, hopefully in August, please try again with it and
let me know if the problem still happens.

I just tried following the instructions from comment 1 but everything worked
correctly to me, when I do "Compose|Preview" I do see UTF-8-encoded message.

Could you please send me the message with which you had this problem
originally?

It worked earlier (with wx 2.8?). If this code was not changed in M, then it definitely
should be fixed in wxGTK (to behave like wxMSW).
