<description>Is this an issue of people replying to everyone vs. replying just to the
list? The last response I sent (that apparently was duplicated) was a
reply-all case.

The response I¹m sending right now is replying just to the list.

Knowing that might help isolate the configuration problem with the list.

FWIW, I don¹t think I¹ve ever seen a duplicated set of messages; but that
may be coincidence. Based on how often I post here it may even help argue
the reply-all vs. reply-list point (I don¹t post, people don¹t reply-all to
me + list).

Is there a mail-loop issue on the binc server.
I've ruled out a local problem, every message has a differnet ESMTP id, from the binc server.
Could the mail server be overwhelmed from the spam or something?

whereas this thread remains unaffected so far. Very strange. I would have
thought you could have blacklisted the address or even the entire domain -
why would paypal even need to email the list?

I use a combination of ClamAV, spamassassin and razor on my mail servers too,
but I took to allowing fairly high scores onto mailing lists due to some of
the senders apparently using bad ISPs with no rDNS on mail servers etc. May
be I should change that, but it would be a good idea to improve the
infrastructure that binc is hosted on. At least the server seems to have
calmed - hopefully we can get back to discussions of development and bug
fixing now ;)

    <description>Hi, everyone.

As part of fighting the ongoing spam problem on this mailing list, we've
decided to switch to a different server, running different software.

A good thing is that the new server has higher reliability than the
existing server. Another good thing is that it's running Mailman, which
has an easy-to-use interface for configuring, for example, post-only
subscription.

You need to resubscribe to the new mailing list software. The reason we
are doing this is not technical, rather it's because spammers have
registered an unknown number of fake addresses to this list, and we can't
tell the good ones from the bad ones.

You can subscribe here:

https://lists.su.se/mailman/listinfo/binc
https://lists.su.se/mailman/listinfo/binc-dev
https://lists.su.se/mailman/listinfo/binc-news

Hopefully this will be a painless transition for you all. After this email
has been sent, the &lt; at &gt;bincimap.org emails will go to the new server. See you
all on the new lists!

Andy and Jerry :-)

We use CLAMAV and it does a good job of bouncing phishing emails like this, as well as email viruses.
The list needs to have *SOME TYPE* of filtering. It's insane to run a nearly open relay,
(subscribing can be done with automated tools now a days).

I don't know - it is going crazy. I checked my mail server logs and it
indicates the email was sent only once as does my mail client. I don't think
there is anything I can do to stop it.

I do run a spam filter but I generally filter lists into folders *before*
removing spam as I found too many emails were being filtered from users with
poor ISPs etc posting to lists. May be it is time to review that, but if the
list is subscriber only as it appears to be then the paypal address should be
removed from the subscription list.

Hopefully you will only see one copy of this email but who can tell.

Spam isn't a fad on the internet; it's here to stay and it's going to

I am unsure if this really makes any difference since I belive gnu c++
zero's all stack variables. But since it doesnt really change anything I
commited it.

This on the other hand I didn't commit, I only removed the broker
pointer output from the debug.

Just changing this pointer from int to long might not make binc x86-64
compatible. There can still be other situations in the code where
int/long's are mixed so we need to look over all the code to ensure its
64bits compatible.

Thanks for supplying these patches!
