<pre>Tim,

Tried some more experimentation on 32bit and 64bit Windows 8 Pro machines. Any thoughts on why I am seeing this behavior?

Windows 8 Pro 32bit
Blat Registry settings in...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Public Domain\Blat
Running 32bit Blat get error "failed to open registry key for Blat using default"
with "blat -profile", and it will not send email.

Windows 8 Pro 64bit
Blat Registry settings in...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Public Domain\Blat
Running 32bit Blat it works. Do not get error with registry access, and it sends email.
Running 64bit Blat it does send the email, not sure why, but I do see
the error "failed to open registry key for Blat using default", with
"blat -profile".

<pre>Tim,

Thanks so much for the response. Yes I can change registry settings in the following location. Running "blat.exe -install" with my parameters does work and loads the settings in the registry location...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
Public Domain\Blat

However when I run "blat -profile" after doing this I get the error:
"Failed to open registry key for Blat using default."

My ownership permission in Windows 8 seem to have access to this registry location also. Very confused why I can't get this to work. Do others have Blat working on a version of Windows 8 ?

I have never used Win8 and this is a Windows issue (not Blat).

Can you open the registry editor and look around and make changes?
If not, then Blat can't either...

Instead of removing the 64 attachment limit, maybe a switch to allow more if needed?
Then users could run a count process and determine if the switch is needed.

Julian,

Yes, there is a limit of 64 attachment names, but not necessarily 64 attachments. The difference is that an attachment name might have wildcards, such as *.lst.

The limit of 64 attachment names is hard coded in source, since I use an array to store the names. Realistically, 64 names is way over the top for attachments; besides, that many attachments may well exceed the server limits for message size at your end or at the receiver. If you really need to send a bunch of files, the best solution would be to compress them into an archive (.zip, .rar, etc.) and send the archive as your only attachment.

From the blat logging file:
-----

Blat v2.6.2 w/GSS encryption (build : Feb 25 2007 12:06:19)

Read 1 TO addresses from ....\mailto.txt

Max of 64 files allowed! Others are being ignored.

------

The message 'Max of 64 files allowed! ...' is a Blat message. Yes?

So Blat has this limit imposed.
A solution might be to zip all attachments to one attachment.

I have written an app (in Clarion) that will send emails by calling Blat.

The call looks like

For this to work my app must not open any windows.

My problem is that every call to Blat (as above) opens a window momentarily.
Nothing is written to the window. It is a blank command window. The window
then closes.

When I run my app from the scheduler it hangs at first window (i.e. call to

<pre>Forgive the longish reply, but couple of points and some experience in this area may be of use.

First, I wonder whether your screen display problem is a function of your custom application, the scheduler, or blat? You can rule out or assign blame to blat by renaming your blat executable to, say, blat.exe-, and creating a batch file named blat.bat, to replace it:

            &lt; at &gt;time /t &gt;&gt; temp

If after running your program, temp includes the system time and the screen still locks up, then blat ain't the problem.

If you think blat is the problem, try

    nsb.zip - Run blat.exe in silent mode
    at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/blat/files/Other/
    hat tip - Namtog

A third option would be to run blat from the command line. That's what we do.

Rather than call blat from within an application, we generate a batch file containing all required blat parameters and a couple of content files and "drop" them into a polling folder for asynchronous processing.

A running batch process polls and detects new </pre>

Exchange by default does not relay incoming SMTP messages. You will need
your Exchange administrator to configure an SMTP connector for you that
allows relaying (assuming they are willing).

<pre>

I received the requested attachment to examine what Blat does with and
without using -html command line option. There is indeed an 8-bit byte in
the middle of their 7-bit HTML file that was causing grief at Comcast.
Using the -html option caused Blat to translate the 8-bit value to an equals
symbol followed by the characters A and 0 (zero). This specific byte is a
space character with the highest bit set. On many systems, this will appear
as a space. However, by changing the display font, this one byte becomes
something else, making it visible. Without using -html command line option,
Blat is able to use 8-bit encoding, thus allowing this one 8-bit byte to be
transmitted as is. Blat makes the determination that if any byte in the
outgoing message has its high bit set after any encoding (e.g. MIME), then
