Whoa, sounds like a bug. Please report at
https://github.com/poelzi/ulatencyd/issues

Also, Debian package has memory and swap management disabled by
default, it's done via Debian-specific patch. Try enabling that and
see if it works. Also, I don't think it has any rules for qjackctl
OOTB, so you probably won't notice any difference.

Yikes!! ulatencyd takes effect as soon as installed. Start qjackctl ok,
hit the start button on qjackctl... takes a long time do anything, lots of

mouse are non-resposive. The computer on/off switch still brings up the
logoff/reboot/halt dialog though. Hard reset. Remove ulatencyd... all ok.

There is probably some setup needed somewhere. On the other hand,
swappiness 0, just works.

Yup, I see it.

Our config looks like:
CONFIG_CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR=y
CONFIG_CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR_SWAP=y
CONFIG_CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR_SWAP_ENABLED=y

So it sounds like it should work.

Len,

Latest release of ulatencyd is available in Debian and Ubuntu repos.
I've written some configs for desktop use case which were accepted
upstream, but I guess you're not interested in them, so there's
nothing really new for you in trunk compared to latest release.

However, CONFIG_CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR is disabled by default on Debian
kernels, I'm not sure if it's enabled on Ubuntu kernels and if it
affects CONFIG_CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR_SWAP, but you'd better check
-lowlatency kernel configs and/or kernel parameter documentation if
you're going to control swap with ulatencyd.

For now I came back just to say thanks for pointing me towards Maemo
tools. I've been using Maemo as my primary phone OS for over a year
now and I love it! Now I love its devs even more! :D

With regards to swap... I have been doing a little test that seems to be
showing a swap problem. I am running the system very lightly loaded. XFCE
session, but:
- Swappiness = 10
- CRON and friends turned off
- ath9k unloaded (for a known problem with my H/W)
- CPU throttling set to performance (full speed)
- Jackdbus running at -p 128 (lowest this H/W supports)
- pulse-jack bridging turned off (pulse is still running)
- screen saver runs as required, I only mention this because stock Ubuntu
Studio is set to blank.

Anyway, The first 8 hours there were no xruns at all. I was very happy. I
had been checking off and on and so the screen saver was also off and on.
However, right about this time a pile of xruns show up all at once... Not
while I am watching but I notice an hour or so la

The Ubuntustudio-legacy GTK theme I ported to GTK3 required a number of updates to work with the version of GTK3 used in Precise. I have attached the "ubuntustudio-legacy-precise" theme along with my "ubuntustudio-legacy" icons, both of which I am using right now in the Quantal version of the install that began life as Ubuntustudio-Jaunty in my machines. Was a LOT of work to get them working, but worth it as I generally want to keep the same appearance through all updates.

If these are added to a future version of Ubuntustudio, I should be able to mantain them as long as no change comes along in GTK3 that I can't make sense of or that introduces an intolerable bug, as I use them every day and run the alpha versions of ubuntu. It would help if people would check them over closely for bugs in other machines and circumstances, of course, and post any patches for any problems they discover.

For use in the ubuntustudio distro, there are two personal changes that you all would probably want to revert: One is a

If your system doesn't have IO-waits and it's still slow, low

Maybe kernel thinks zram swapping is IO and doesn't keep the HZ high

Have you tried setting the CPU frequency scaling governor to "performance"

And how you're measuring CPU frequency? CPU governor can be changing
