The Ubuntu team is very pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 
(Long-Term Support) for Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products.

Codenamed "Precise Pangolin", 12.04 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition 
of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a
high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution.  The team has been hard 
at work through this cycle, introducing a few new features and improving 
quality control.

To be a bit more precise about what we're releasing today...
There are 54 product images and 2 cloud images being shipped with 
this 12.04 LTS release,  with translations available in 41 languages.  
The Ubuntu project's 12.04 archive currently has 39,226 binary packages 
in it, built from 19,179 source packages, so lots of good starting points 
for your imagination!

This note is just to confirm that the support period for Ubuntu 10.10
(Maverick Meerkat) formally ends on April 10, 2012 and Ubuntu Security Notices
no longer includes information or updated packages for Ubuntu 10.10.  

The supported upgrade path from Ubuntu 10.10 is via Ubuntu 11.04
(Natty Narwhal).  Instructions and caveats for the upgrade may be found at

Some of the key new features available since Beta 1 are:

 * A new Ubuntu kernel (3.2.0-20.33) which is base on the v3.2.12
   upstream Linux kernel.  Changes to the default kernel flavours 
   have been made for 12.04 LTS.

 * Updates to our new way to quickly search and access any desktop 
   application's and indicator's menu, called the HUD, can be 
   accessed by taping the Alt key and entering characters.

The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the first beta release of Ubuntu
12.04 LTS (Long-Term Support) Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products.

Codenamed "Precise Pangolin", 12.04 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition

at work throughout this cycle, introducing new features and fixing bugs.

This release introduces a new set of images for the ARMv7 "hard float"
ABI, denoted as armhf.  There are still some armel images around, as
we finish the migration, but 12.04 for ARM will be based on armhf.

The technology that allows GPUs to go into a very low power consumption 
state when the GPU is idle (RC6) is now enabled by default for 
Sandy Bridge systems, which should result in considerable power savings 
when this stage is activated.

The CD image size has been adjusted to 703MB to squeeze in every
bit of package goodness we can on the installation CD images.

The Ubuntu team is proud to announce the release of Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS,
the fourth maintenance update to Ubuntu's 10.04 LTS release.  This
release includes updated server, desktop, alternate installation CDs 
and DVDs for the i386 and amd64 architectures.

The Kubuntu team is proud to announce the release of Kubuntu 10.04.4.
This release includes updated images for the desktop and alternate
installation CDs and DVDs for the i386 and amd64 architectures.    

This is the last planned maintenance release for the 10.04 LTS series.  
Future security updates and bug fixes will be individually downloadable 
from the Ubuntu archive in the same way as before, but no further 
updates to installation media will be provided for 10.04 LTS.  The next 
LTS release, 12.04 LTS, will be released in April 2012.  We recommend 
that users installing Ubuntu after April install the latest LTS release.

18 months ago, on April 29, 2010.   At that time, Ubuntu committed to
ongoing security and critical fixes for a period of 18 months for these
specific products.

2006.  For the LTS Server releases, Ubuntu committed to ongoing

Ubuntu 6.06 LTS was a major milestone for the Ubuntu project, being the

Some time ago a group of hyper-intelligent pan dimensional beings
decided to finally answer the great question of Life, The Universe and
Everything.  To this end, a small band of these Debians built an
