Plone Conference 2012 Call for Proposals

The annual Plone Conference represents the best of the Plone community;
learning, sharing, creating, and socializing.
All of this (and then some!), with a couple of hundred other people,
condensed into a single week in the time-space continuum!

The Plone Foundation has announced the timeline and process for selecting
the location for Plone Conference 2012.

With the experiences of the great 2011 conference in San Francisco, USA,
still vivid in the minds of the participants,
the Plone Foundation kicked off the process of picking the venue for next
year's conference by putting out a call for proposals.

Proposals are due on December 31st 2011, with the winning venue being
announced in January 2012.

Foundation members will have an opportunity to voice their preference on
the final selection and we're hoping for a variety of options from which to

Last week, the Zope and Plone security teams announced the discovery
of a serious security issue affecting all recent versions of Zope and
Plone, as well as the planned release of a Hotfix to address this
issue to be made today, Tuesday 4th October at 1500 UTC.

The Plone and Zope security teams are announcing that this security

IMPORTANT UPDATE re a flaw in yesterday's Plonesecurity hotfix

The Plone security team is sorry to announce that a flaw in 
Hotfix20110531 released on the 1st June 2011 has been found.  The 
escalation of privileges attack was not blocked on Plone 4, despite 
having the fix installed.

As such, we have released version 2.0 of this fix which contains a 
tighter check for potential attacks, which is available at 
http://plone.org/products/plone-hotfix/releases/20110531. If you have 
already installed Hotfix20110531 on Plone 4 you need to update to 
version 2.0.  For Plone 3.x and Plone 2.x, if Hotfix20110531 is not yet 
installed you should install version 2.0.  If you have version 1.0 of 
Hotfix20110531 installed on Plone 3.x or 2.x you do not need to upgrade.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused; we will be doing a 
postmortem on this fix to further improve our security patch release 
procedures in the coming weeks.

The Plone Security team released a new hotfix this morning, "Plone 
Hotfix 20110531," addressing 4 vulnerabilities.  Please take the time as 
soon as possible to install this hotfix on any sites for which you are 
responsible.

The hotfix addresses the following 4 vulnerabilities:

1. Reflected XSS attack: A crafted URL can display arbitrary HTML 
output. This is a vulnerability in CMFPlone affecting all versions of

disclosure. See CVE-2011-1948 for details.

On behalf of the Plone Foundation I'd like to draw your attention to a security announcement that was published about 12 hours ago.

This is a pre-announcement only, it does not contain any vulnerability details. Your sites are a safe today as they were yesterday.  However, as the problem that has been found is so serious we are giving you advance warning that a patch is upcoming and recommending that you plan a maintenance period for your sites to coincide with the full announcement next week.

You can feel free to ask more questions on the plone-users mailing list or in the #plone IRC channel about details and how to protect yourself, but it is important to make a plan for this now.
