You should be more precise. It is quite unclear if you have problems
with the input encoding or the fonts. With such problems it is
always the best to put the test file, the log-file (from a pdflatex
run) and the resulting pdf) in a zip file and then somewhere on the
net for download.

Btw: The following works fine for me:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[LGRx,T1,LGR]{fontenc}
\usepackage[greek]{babel}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

\begin{document}
 asd

'a `a "i "`i
\end{document}

The tex file should naturally be utf8 encoded. The document needs
lgrenc.dfu and lgrxenc.def which you can get here:
http://milde.users.sourceforge.net/LGR/

The two files should go at best in a local root in tex\latex\....

You must create a local texmf tree which must be 'TDS-compliant',
indicate it as local root (run the program Settings from MiKTeX
and click on the tab 'Roots' then click on 'Add' and indicate your local
texmf tree).
Then you can install packages (there are often, in the doc of package, a
'How to install').

Hello everyone,
I am relatively new to miktex and i am facing a problem i am not able to solve for 2 days now. I want to write a document in both gree and english so after i bit of searching and asking I concluded to something like this: \documentclass[11pt]{article}\usepackage[english,greek]{babel}
\usepackage[iso-8859-7]{inputenc}

\newcommand{\en}{\selectlanguage{english}}
\newcommand{\gr}{\selectlanguage{greek}}
\newcommand{\lquotes}{\en``\gr}
\newcommand{\rquotes}{\en''\gr\xspace}

\begin{document}

\en This is an English text. \gr αβγδε. \en
English again! \gr αβγδε.
 \end{document} After finally downloading and making iso-8859-7 able to be seen by the system I am now facing an error :

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;That's what I will do. I am getting an error. I first try to ensure that I do not have a self-created error. As you doubtless are aware, with the TeX world, unsynched tools can cause issues. If I can upgrade, this fixes problems sometimes. Even re-installing has the same effect if a bad version has crept in somehow.

you have on your system (look for cab or tar.lzma files under "program

3.- install again the package.

I've never tried something like that.

May be you can
1.- unintall the package from your MikTeX with MPM
2.- manually download the package from CTAN

If the problem is with miktex's packaged version, you could also download
the original one and fill a bug
report on miktex place.

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;OK, that does uninstall the package. But it just re-installs what is here, without forcing a re-download of the MikTeX package component. How do I force a re-update from the repository? The update process does not allow unnecessary updates to be performed.
