The Apache OpenOffice Project Management Committee is pleased to
announce the availability of our new Announcement mailing list. This
is a low-volume list which will be used to announce the availability
of OpenOffice betas and releases, to issue security bulletins, and to
report similar relevant information. This is not a discussion list.
It will be used only for authoritative announcements regarding Apache
OpenOffice.

We encourage all OpenOffice users and other interested parties to
subscribe to this list by following these steps:

1) Send an email to: ooo-announce-subscribe&lt; at &gt;incubator.apache.org

2) Wait a few minutes and then check your inbox for a confirmation email.

under real life conditions. OpenOffice.org is a community effort and
your input will help to make OpenOffice.org 3.4 even better!

The Beta testing period ends on May 2nd. Take advantage of this
evaluation period to take a closer look at the new SVG import, the

<pre>All, a belated happy birthday!

Ten years ago, on 13 October 2000, Sun released the source code to StarOffice under open-source licenses. Formidable in size and complexity and positioned against a seemingly overwhelmingly dominant competitor, OpenOffice.org was seen as at best, foolish, at worse, boring, fit only for office drones. Browsers, it was said, have more fun.

But we, the OpenOffice.org project community, showed these skeptics to be wrong. We showed the world that a free office productivity suite using open standards, especially what later came to be known as the OpenDocument Format (ODF), is more desirable, more powerful, and more transformative than any browser could be. We, the OpenOffice.org project community, gave the world a set of tools that allows all to participate as equals in the fields of commerce, science, education, government, to name but a few.

We have given the world the tools to do things and to work together. With OpenOffice.org, people produce - and their productions are theirs</pre>

The Internet, September 28, 2010 - The community of volunteers who develop and promote OpenOffice.org, the leading free office software, announce a major change in the project’s structure. After ten years’ successful growth with Sun Microsystems as founding and principle sponsor, the project launches an independent foundation called "The Document Foundation", to fulfil the promise of independence written in the original charter.

The Foundation will be the cornerstone of a new ecosystem where individuals and organisations can contribute to and benefit from the availability of a truly free office suite. It will generate increased competition and choice for the benefit of customers and drive innovation in the office suite market. the OOoCon just ended, and we realize how little time we can spend
together face2face each year. To properly fix that problem, we hereby
announce the next event around OpenOffice.org - a HackFest in Hamburg,
specifically targeted to developers, to give all of us more face time &amp;
collectively work on the code.

The OpenOffice.org HackFest will take place on the weekend of November
6./7. 2010 in the "Attraktor" in Hamburg, and a tentative program could
look like this:

     * Friday night - beer &amp; fun, warming up
     * Saturday morning - Intro talks, Hands-on sessions
     * Saturday afternoon/night - collective hacking, bug fixing
     * Sunday morning - wrap-up, review, document

For those who are in need for a bursary, we have a limited travel
funding budget available. For sleeping, couchsurfing at the organizers
is available. Be aware that would be in an unheated loft, so bringing a
sleeping mat and a good sleeping bag would be essential. For more

<pre>The OpenOffice.org Community today announces the availability of
OpenOffice.org 3.2.1, the newest version of the world's major free and

main sponsor, Oracle, and comes with a refreshed logo and splash screen [1].

"The OpenOffice.org Community is in the year of its 10th anniversary. We

community, on one of the world's largest open source projects,
delivering free software based on true open standards", says Florian
Effenberger, Marketing Project Lead of OpenOffice.org. He adds: "With
the start of the Branding Initiative [2], the ongoing Project
Renaissance [3] and with the recently-announ</pre>
