It was not superseded by an XML format -- you are confusing the TM
format with the bitext format.

The last version that exports Trados TXT TM files is Trados 2007, which
is a very old version and one that SDL (that makes Trados) is trying to
get out of use, but it is still one of the most popular Trados versions.
  The latest versions of Trados can't export it (not even sure if they
can read it).

I can't comment on how likely one will encounter a Trados TXT TM format.
  Although Trados 2007 can export both TXT and TMX formats, it can't
convert between the two formats without importing and exporting via its
native TM format.

Several of the products have been enjoying some code cleanups, and I
think it is time to raise the topic of deprecating some older features.

I'm often one to hold onto old features, because I don't want to take
anything away from anybody, but here are a few things that I'm thinking
of that can improve things. I'd like to hear other people's opinions.
Please reply where you have an opinion or where you might be impacted.

A related topic might be to raise our required versions for our
dependencies, but there aren't any specific ones that come to mind,
except that we had to raise the requirement for Django to version 1.2
for the upcoming version of Pootle.

So these are some suggestions for removal:

  - Old .ts format converter to PO. We got a bug report today about
lack of support for some features in ts2po. Since Pootle and Virtaal
supports .ts files natively, the converter didn't get much attention
again. I'd actually like for someone to write a basic converter that
uses the new TS sup&lt;/pre&gt;</description>

not now.

But as I told you in a previous message in this thread, you can start
providing local docs for the documentation you already have in the

Hi, I have looked a little at this, and maybe the best solution is to
generate HTML docs. Most computers have a web browser, so it should be
the best solution. But some of the available options can generate CHM
files.

* Sphinx+reStructuredText: my favorite choice. Can generate HTML
(according to description "including Windows HTML Help", but I
couldn't find exhaustive documentation about how to do this in the
official site) and other formats. Used for Python docs, Django docs...
You should be familiar with reStructuredText since the documentation
in your github git repositories was rewritten to this the last weeks.

* Doxygen: can generate CHM, HTML and other formats. Used in a lot of
project including KDE API docs. http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/

* Mallard: can generate HTML (maybe other formats). Creates topic
focused documentation. GNOME docs are all migrating to this. I
couldn't find complete docs about how to generate docs in HTML.

from translate.storage import factory
tutorial = factory.getobject('tutorial.pot')
for comment, source, context in entries:
    unit = tutorial.addunit(source)
    unit.addnote(comment, "developer")
    unit.setcontext(context)

This way we don't need to bother with escaping, etc. since it is handled
by the toolkit code which we have already.

Well, I looked at the .pot tutorial file and I saw some other things
that should be considered: the plurals, and the context messages.
Having those things in account I wrote the following code. I didn't
tested it, it has problems with the escaped characters, but it should
work with minor adjustments:

#!/usr/bin/env python

#TODO include the necessary imports for gettext and get this working
from gettext import gettext as _

# This will be replaced by several lines of hardcoded text from the
tutorial for populating the entries list
#TODO I just included a list comprehension in order to generate
distinct entries. This should be removed in favor of hardcoded unicode
strings
entries_list = [[_(u"Comment %d" % i), u"Translation %d" % i,
u"Context %d" % i] for i in range(4)]

# Adding a plural entry. Note that in the second position a list with
two unicode strings is provided instead of providing only an unicode

Unfortunately not yet, but I think it will be easy to write a converter
to do that. An alternative might be to generate it from code, and to
simply translate it as part of the Virtaal localisation. In fact, I
think that might be easiest. Can someone come up with a simple python
file that generates the tutorial pot file from tuples of
(_("Instructional comments), "English source text") ?

There is no offline documentation at the moment, unfortunately.

It would be great if people can help with ideas on:

 - topics/pages that should be inside (I guess many of the existing wiki
pages are useful).

 - which format to use which will allow easy translation and publication
on all platforms.

...or any other useful ideas on how we can do this :-)

Hi Leandro

The tutorial doesn't showcase all features, and it would be great if it
could. Can you suggest some strings with the relevant instructions or
comments? We can gradually improve it as we go along. I don't know how
many people use the tutorial, but I think it is a nice interactive way
to get to know some of the features.

If we want to show features that are language specific (like
autocorrect), we might need to think carefully about how we do that, but
any ideas are welcome.

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hi,
when I was playing this morning with Virtaal I noticed that the
Virtaal tutorial hints doesn't appear in the Virtaal interface
language. Are Virtaal tutorial hints translatable?
