this out....

Do these students have only one teacher to worry about each year? Or are
there several teachers that need to be associated with each student?

Would it help to add a field indicating their (expected) graduating year?
Maybe to make some batch changes for example?

What's the name of the program that you use to generate the scannable
barcodes.

I'm copying this to a ByWater miracle worker...Ruth Bavousett, in case she
has brilliant ideas to make this easier for everyone!

We use Koha's patron card creator to create a patron card batch for each
class/grade and use a template generate scan sheets for each which contain
the student's name and barcode.

I'd imagine that the the patron search could simplify the batch creation
for larger schools.

here is the link to the America University of Rome. I did that to satisfy the needs of stylesheet portal of the AUR.
What I did is to manipulate the original .css and adding somethings in OPAC sysprefs.

And here you'll see the wiki with a list of customized koha version http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Gallery_of_customized_OPACs

<pre>Hi Lori,

We don't do this exactly. Instead we create these checkout sheets for each grade of the elementary school. We store the grade level information in the sort 1 field, write a report to export the patron name, grade level and barcode number, run the spreadsheet through another program (not open source) that creates a scannable barcode image for each patron. We then import the barcode images one by one into a word document where we group them by grade so that the librarians have a "scan sheet" for each grade.

Not easy at all!

We've tried convincing the staff at our elementary schools that they can just look the students up by name, but they're convince it takes too long and they just simple NEED to have these scan sheets (which systems like Winnebago created for them very easily).

If anyone can come up with a better solution, I would worship you forever.

I think it's more fundamental. The XML cannot be understood (parsed).
You must not put curly quotes in XML. Use straight quotes.

Also if you have any unusual characters in any values, you should
replace them with equivalent &amp;#x00FF; type hex codes (00FF is y-umlaut).
http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/latin_1_supplement.html might help.

xmllint --noout koha-conf.xml # will check that it is OK.

Hope that helps,

Joel,

I think the problem for this library is that they have a prefix (e.g. p or sometimes P) and then a space and THEN leading zeros. So, they want "p 000123" to be interpreted as "P123"

That seems like too much to ask!

No, there is something wrong somewhere. Check your figures. There should
be a ratio of 1:4 (or so) between without/with xpath support.

<pre>Hi Lori,

Hmmm... That can become a tricky one.

I know on most barcode readers you can set them up so if there is a space in
the barcode as your suggesting, that it will drop the space when it scans
the barcode, so it will read it as P123, etc. for Koha. I use an Opticon
OPR-2001, Cino FuzzyScan F460/F680, and DataLogic scanners and they all have
this option that can be set.

I¹m not sure without looking, but you might also be able to tweak the
settings in Koha to configure it to understand these types of barcodes...

But I would suggest changing the scanner settings is the best way to get
around this problem.

Best Wishes,
Joel

Follett in which a patron record get labelled as a "teacher" and this
allows that teacher to be somehow related to his or her students. The idea
is that when the students are going to the library, the library staff can
easily generate a list of barcodes associated with that teacher (in lieu of
library cards I guess....).

Anyone heard of such a thing or have a way to accomplish something similar
in Koha?

<pre>Does anyone have any barcodes that use leading zeros and upper and lower
case letters? I am working with a library who has barcodes that look like
"p 000123" which they need to have interpreted as "P123".

Any thoughts about how Koha would handle that?

<pre>OMG...

Now the size of /etc/koha/zebradb has 512kb! Well, im using koha and the
searches seems ok, but still, I feel like I'm doing something very wrong...

Can the xpath reduce the zebra index so drastically?

Thanks!!

Does the error go away if you switch that preference to use the local files?
