<pre>I've gotten to know Will England recently and believe he's a solid guy to
work for, so those of you thinking about applying: go for it!

While he does need a strong lead developer to take charge, he is also open
to working with junior developers depending on skills and long-term
personal fit. They have Android and iOS apps—in addition to their Rails
app— so there is a real opportunity for someone looking to get their feet
wet in the mobile space.

I agree with Michael…great opportunity for anyone that wants to work for a
funded startup, be an early member of their new in-house development team,
and actually have equity that becomes worth a significant amount in a few
years.

<pre>Hi. I'm recruiting for Drive Power (www.drvpwr.com). They just closed
on $815K in angel financing, have revenue and have a couple of huge
customers. Lots of great things going right now and they need a lead
Rails Dev to really lead the charge on their web development efforts.
Individuals should be top notch in skill level (we will ask for a code
sample), easy to get along with and can easily communicate.

Compensation is market + equity.

Not too many funded startups in Mpls these days. Great opportunity...

Sound like a fit? Drop me a line at mtnoble37-/E1597aS9LQAvxtiuMwx3w&lt; at &gt;public.gmane.org with your
resume and links to any sample work.

Thanks,

<pre>We used to use BJ for http://nhgis.org, but dumped it in preference to
delayed_job. It seemed BJ was no longer being actively developed, and it
showed. delayed_job has a rails-2 fork as well, which helps if you're
still stuck with older rails apps. I'm pretty happy with delayed_job for
the most part. I've extended its Delayed::Job class in one of our models
to better integrate its visibility with our extract system (essentially
job requests, so it is nice to have these two things related).

<pre>BJ (aka background_job) was a background queue a lot of people used back

It requires a separate process to do the work, like delayed_job. It's
actually quite similar to delayed_job.

<pre>Hi,

I have inherited a rails 2.0.2 app which I'm eventually going to rebuild as rails 3.2.x or whatever. The server it's running on is pretty old, too, and features a deprecated kernel. So, I transferred the app to a new vps while I set up a new app using rvm and all that.

Everything is working as expected except for order processing. Orders are created, but emailing is failing. This piece is supposedly handled by bj, and it should 'just work.' No daemon running. Has anyone used bj recently? Here's the code in app/model/order.rb - lines 13 and 14 make the calls to Bj.

http://pastie.org/3890331

And there is nothing exceptional in the logs, which I've set to debug. You can see the item added to the bj_job table:

Bj::Table::Job Create (0.000398) INSERT INTO `bj_job` (`runner`, `started_at`, `is_restartable`, `submitted_at`, `submitter`, `tag`, `state`, `stderr`, `stdin`, `env`, `stdout`, `priority`, `finished_at`, `exit_status`, `command`, `pid`) VALUES(NULL, NULL, 1, '2012-05-10 16:17:44', 'eleg</pre>
