You are on the wrong list for that particular question, but you should see them as icons with ruby on them, or you can run them from a command prompt with 
ruby something.rb 
or 
ruby something.rbw
You may even be able to do
something.rb 
from the command line.
This list is for people writing code for the rubygems part of ruby, which 
you will encounter soon.   You probably want to be on Ruby-Talk for general
ruby questions.

The only thing useful on docs.rubygems.org is the link to http://rubygems.rubyforge.org/rubygems-update/

I'd much rather have the RDoc at a higher level somewhere.  Would it make sense for the RDoc to eventually move to docs.rubygems.org, and improve the README somewhat to point to all these other useful sites we've got?

I've been out sick the past few days, but I do check my email. I have
no problems if you can shoot me an email and I'll check as fast as
possible to see any potential issues.

So far there is only one test failure on Windows:

It should be Gem.read_binary instead of File.read (the later do not
read in binary form on Windows)

Hi Luis, 

Sure, I'm happy to do that. I've been doing release fast and furious lately to get the last of the YAML bugs squashed. The config_file change was quite odd, I doubt anyone would have found it (other than the user) because it only happens on 1.9.1.

Whats the best way to give you a heads up? I haven't seen you on IRC as of late.

Hello Evan.

Will be great if you gave us a heads up before a release so I can check
that it works properly or maybe bring to your attention possible bugs that
weren't fixed and could be good to have.

For instance, the issue with config_file and RbConfig not being found under
some scenarios.

Also check that it works on windows, which is what I have been asking to be
considered long ago.

The new metadata is freeform, so you're welcome to stake a claim to a key and put your tag data there. In which case, you'd then need a tool that can read the tags. That could just be a rubygems plugin. If it takes off, we can discuss rolling the functionality directly into rubygems itself.

This is the path that gemcutter's functionality took and it worked quite well.

This Partly-Baked Idea has the goal of making it easier for
folks to find gems, whether by looking over a list of tags
or by looking for gems with similar sets of tags.

Dunno if this has been discussed before.  If so, a pointer
to the thread would be appreciated.  Otherwise, I'd like a
bit of feedback on the idea.

The chef-solr gem, which embeds Solr, is also one of the offenders. We wouldn't have a problem hosting the gem on S3 ourselves. The only issue I foresee is that many of our users are new to Ruby and its ecosystem, so I hope that the transition can be made as painless as possible for end users.

What you describe above would be useful for us packaging the maven
gems on the fly, but that's mostly a solved problem right now (we just
do it manually in a tmp dir). The real trouble is hooking how RG
retrieves a spec for a given gem name and how it later fetches the
.gem file. We have to patch both paths.

It would also be good to allow re-pushing an existing (identical) gem
with a new remote URL, to allow users to actively offload current
giants rather than waiting for new releases. That could immediately
reduce the size and bandwidth load for RG.org.

For example, JRuby team could re-push all jruby-jars gems using S3
URLs at a moment's notice.

Allow developers to mark old versions as "unmaintained" and then delete 
such versions after a specific period of time without download.

If there is a desire to keep them for posterity or perhaps for just-in-case 
support reasons, these deleted gems could be archived to someone's 
dedicated local machine for an extended period.
