if Jaime doesn't have time to correct the tutorial for eric5, why don't you
take over the job with his permission? That way we all could benefit from
your research.

Btw, the import stuff is not an eric5 related thing but rather a Python3 topic.
Just to let you know, eric doesn't require you to put these files anywhere
specific.

Then again, maybe some day I'll have the time to update the tutorial for

The work *should*, I believe, happen on Launchpad at:

     bzr branch lp:ubuntu/eric

and I'm guessing you'll need the .tar.gz for all of the core app and the
various translations. There is *likely* a script to download all of
those into the correct places. Once you've got your changes integrated
you'll likely either create a pull request, or use `bzr send` to send
the fixes to the maintainers.

I haven't actually gone through the process myself, I'm just going on an
outsider's impressions of how it is supposed to work.

Hope that helps,
Mike

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Good evening all,

I just wanted to introduce myself to the list as a potential new
contributor ... I'm not sure how much time I can commit to giving on an
ongoing basis, but I do have some itches to scratch.

The first itch is:
The package that is based off of v 4.5.8 segfaults on both my systems of
Kubuntu 13.04.

This made me sad, so I downloaded verison 4.5.10, then 4.5.11, worked fine.

I then packaged them up, they would be integrated nicely in to my Kubuntu
systems.

I'm not sure if I have done the packaging 100%--or even 50%--correctly
because I had to edit some of the debian script files, specifically:
a.) get_translations.py
b.) rules
in addition to updating various other files for the vision number.

So, my question is there a way I can contribute my work back to the
community? Presumably this is yes, so what I really need to know is where
to contribute my work back? What is the best way to this?

Thanks,
David

I am glad you are willing to try the Ruby support. However, please note,
that the debugger backend onyl support Ruby up to 1.8.x. Somehow it
doesn't work with 1.9 and newer. Due to the fact that my Ruby knowledge
is fairly poor I am unable to fix this. Every help is appreciated.

I already asked in the Ruby newsgroup but the response was ZERO.

<description>&lt;pre&gt;Hi! I've been a (very) occasional user of Eric over the past couple of

my job has changed such that I'm looking at a bunch more coding, and
probably more with a focus toward Ruby. Imagine my surprise when I saw
that Eric supported Ruby! Anyway, now that I'm likely to get fairly
serious, a few things:

1) Docs, in general, are hard to come by. I'd like a sort of
step-through intro to the various features. Anything like that around?

2) Ruby -- I see it mentioned, but not much. Are there any docs that
address the Ruby side of things, in particular?

Thanks much, and sorry to pester; I promise I've looked (though possibly
not in the right places)!

Thanks,

You do not have to execute the run action every time. The Re-run will repeat
the last run/debug/... action with exactly the same parameters as the last
time. That means, on the first run you select Run, on all other just Re-run.

thanks for being so patient and helping to debug the issue. The
observation is caused by a forgotten line of code. The locals dict of the
current frame was not remembered in case of an exception. That is fixed in
the current sources. The change will be part of the next release. If you
need it urgently, just copy it over from the sources. Sources are available

When I upgrade to the next version in line, 4.4.13 (r3989), this no longer
works – when I say yes to break at the exception and type self (or other
variables that do exist) in the shell, I get not defined errors.

The change log is unhelpful, the entry for 4.4.13 is “bug fixes”. Can you
please provide any insight into what changed in between these two versions
that could cause this?

Thank you,

Mark

Greetings,

I have recently upgraded my version of Qt/PyQt and so have upgraded my
version of Eric4 to the latest one. In the previous version of Eric I was
using (4.3.10), when an exception occurred and the dialog appeared, I
would choose to break at it and then I would be able to use the shell to
interact with variables in the memory space. After upgrading to latest
version I cannot interact with the variables when choosing to break at an
exception anymore and so now when an exception occurs I have to choose
to break at it, explicitly place a break point at that spot and then re-run in
debug mode.

Was the functionality that occurred in the old version removed or made as
some setting that is defaulted to off now? Or is there something weird in
my new setup that causes this? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark
