The list archive now goes back to 1999.

I don't think the index is fully built out yet (so searching for TPDD
will only bring up recent articles at the moment) but that should happen
automatically, eventually.

    <description>Bingo!

I got it! Well you guys got it for me.

I dug out some old DSDDs which were hiding in the dusty corner of my
computer desk (I didn't even know I had them anymore). Transfered over
DOS100.CO and DOS100.BA. Bada Bing Bada Boom formatted the disk and off we
go, a working TPDD drive.

I thank you all for helping me out on this.

Now I have one other question which ROM should I buy so I can properly use
my drive. TS-DOS vs Ultimate Rom. I'm leaning toward the Ultimate ROM myself
because other utilities (which I guess I just answered my question).

Yes. The high density ones are ... too good! Use SSSD (single sided
single density) or DSDD (double sided double density) if you can't
get the first.

<description>You should use the 720K size floppy, not the HD type. (No extra square hole
on the opposite corner from the write protect.) Is your floppy formatted for
the TPDD? If not, you have to format it first. TEENY doesn't issue a format
command as far as I know. You'll need FLOPPY.CO or DOS100.CO to do that.

<description>Well I have made some progress.

Using Ron's guide which Rick provided the link too. I was able to
successfully able to get the TPDD to spit out the correct code ( q{ ).

So after that, I tried TEENY again. The motor that drives the belt that
spins the just doesn't spin and no indicator lights come on. So I see the
motor is labeled 6VDC. I figure I would see if the motor is burnt out and
hook up a 6 volt source to the motor. It didn't seem to spin, but I gave
TEENY a 2nd shot to see. Success (sorta)!

Now when I prompt TEENY to save a file off the 102 the plater spins and the
read/write LED comes on. With the cover off I can see the head move back and
forth just a couple of millimeter or so.

But then I get the FF error. Which means if I'm correct that the file can
not be found on the 102. When I hook the 102 to my linux box running dlplus
I can save and load files no problem.

I'm either doing something wrong or my TPDD is off to a better place where
all TRSs go when they die.

Thank you for this link. I have a real interest in "historic" race cars,
especially sports racers. I knew about Beach Race Cars as I have a friend
(Morgan Wilson) who owns a Beach Formula V. He still competes with it in
hill climbs and time trials in the mid-Atlantic region. Beach Race Cars
made and sold a surprising number of very nice cars back then.

<description>Oh wow! That is a new thought. I have never seen that idea
discussed. Hmmmm.... where to start? Okay, look in the Three
Special Libraries at "Commercial Pgms now in the Public Domain." In
there you will find the archive for Lapdos II. This was THE
BEST!!!!! way to transfer files until the DOS world became the
Windows world. For years I searched for the source code so that this
"best way" could be brought up to date. Do to not being able to get
the source code, I started promoting the use of Desklink and TS-DOS
and then Ron created TEENY and the rest is history, i.e., a totally
free-to-use file transfer system. And just for the record, now with
LaddieCon, the PC side is more stable.

Okay ... so back to Lapdos II. Lapdos II was originally designed
(named: Lapdos) as a file transfer utility for PC to TPDD via a
simple gender changer attached to the end of the TPDD cable so that
it could be plugged into the DB25 serial port on a PC ... cause "all"
PCs used the DB25 and ran DOS. Oh man, </description>

Rick,
I think there is also a text file written by Ron Wiesen that shows you how
to use just TERM to send commands to the TPDD and watch the responses. This
is useful in diagnosing TPDD problems. Where is that document?

I have never used up all the menu slots. But if I had the problem I would
find out how the menu and files are stored in memory. I would look at a
menu file swapping program. That program would be in one menu slot. And
running it would swap one set of files for another and back again as needed.
And the swaped out files would be in menu slot also, like an archieved file.
Mnu1.da Mnu2.da. The main limitation would be available memory. It would be
a matter of how and how best to do it.

I thought that maybe there was a way to create and use a *file* without its name taking a slot in the menu.
You can use a slot for your filesystem to ensure the space used by your files are not overwritten by the native filesystem. This is conceptually similar to having a multifile ZIP using one native directory entry (for the ZIP file itself). You will need your own methods for accessing the files contained inside. If your files are short text, you can use NOTE.DO or ADRS.DO and use the standard Model T program to access them, as they are individual records in the containing file. You can also us more sophisticated ideas to store files as records in another database format, such as is used by extRAM.

TPDD for another?

If anyone wants to do this please do, because I am starting school (8th

and won't have any time.

    <description>Rick,
I think there is also a text file written by Ron Wiesen that shows you how
to use just TERM to send commands to the TPDD and watch the responses. This
is useful in diagnosing TPDD problems. Where is that document?

Hi Keith ... thanks for writing. Below are some links to answer your
questions and get you going.

If you need a boot disk, these are always available from the Catalog
and Order Form at Club 100 (www.club100.org) for only 2 bucks.

If you have the ability to transfer files between a PC and your Model
102 or 200 then you are already set up with a Model "T" dos, like
TEENY or TS-DOS. If not, then download the DL-ARC.EXE self-deARCing
file at http://www.club100.org/catalog.html#hotsetup and get set up

There is also a BASIC DOS called DSKMGR.CO (disk manager) which is
found in the Club 100 library DRIVES

Booting instructions, as well as drive belt changing instructions are

Hi Van!

But then, I have to wonder why Ron is on about this then. He must have
some way to use those slots.

I'm guessing something like Steve was saying where you can poke
something to the system variables to make it start using the low
slots.

The concern would be the OS having hard coded where the free slots
begin or on what events it reinitializes the pointers.

All speculation at this point...

Brother FB-100. It is compatible with a TPDD-1 locked at 9600baud.

Brother knitting machines use it in sector-access mode. I've done some
reverse engineering on the data format but I haven't looked at it in a
while.
